i used to wake up in the middle of the night all the time. i would reach to try to pet my cat Susan, but she would stay just out of reach and i could only feel her ears. i would feel comforted by that and then fall asleep again.
one night i woke up because i heard a strange creaking noise. i was more scared than normal so i reached down very quickly. there Susan was, warm and soft as always. i drifted off again.
the next morning i found out from my mom, who was covered in blood, that my uncle was staying over a few days. i went in the kitchen to greet him. he was eating a big plate disgusting-looking meat. it looked undercooked and had bits of gray hair in it.
he looked my direct in the eyes and said, "humans have ears too!"
i said, "huh?"
"Humans have ears too!" he scratched behind his left ear.
"I don't get it."
"Humans. Have. Ears. Just. Like. Cats. Do."
"oh, now i get it. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
