John was creeping slowly down the stairs to the cellar, afraid of what contents were inside. He imagined a monster with red glowing eyes living beneath his home. He opened the wooden door with splinters all around. He entered the dimly lit basement with only one small yellow light hanging on the cracked ceiling. He walked to the laundry basket and, Boo! John's sister Agatha jumped out! He fell in fright. He took the bag of laundry and ran up, Agatha followed. She sang a sing-song "Little Scared John, Little Scared John, pale and white as a light light dog." He ran upstairs to his room in anger only to find his books disorganized. He lay flat in his bed. His mother came in. "I am sorry my child. Having a sibling is a hard task. Just remember to brush your teeth and take a bath later before bed. I'll leave you alone now." She closed the door. John thought to himself, "Why does Agatha have to be so annoying..."

The next day he was walking to school when he saw a light in the window to the cellar. A light that he had never seen lit up. He walked past many houses but he couldn't stop thinking about it. He got to school a few minutes late. His very strict teacher Ms. Strobulenuck exclaimed in a stern voice, "Three hours of detention for you." the whole class yelled "Ooh!" Ms. Stroublenuck said "Does anyone want detention too?" the class got silent "I thought so." she whispered, "Pathetic brats." John sat down in his seat.

At the end of the school day and detention, he stepped out of the school taking a breath. He stepped out like a celebrity walking away from rude fans; freedom! He once again walked home, looking at his basement to see if the light was still present. He doubted it, but he was incorrect. The light was still shining. Brighter than before. He walked through the front door slowly, still looking at the light in the window. He was happy his sister was at her friend's house. He had enough time to lock the door before she came. He ran up the stairs and locked his door. His mother called from downstairs "Can you go to the basement? Can you get the train set for your father?" John was terrified of the basement. Even more after the light from the window. He unlocked his door and went down looking like he had seen a ghost! He opened the door and went down the dark lonely stairs. He heard a sound, was it a rat? No, it couldn't have been. Sounded nothing like a rat. He loomed over the wall. Nothing there. He did see the bookshelf was darker than everything else. He walked over and felt a skin feel. A light blew up! It looked like a jack-o-lantern face. He flashed his light at the creature. Looming over him was a man with a pumpkin face! The man ran after the now-running John. John took the train set and ran out the door like the victim in a horror movie. He gave the train set to his father and ran up the stairs in fright. He locked his door and went to bed. He pulled up his covers and scared himself to sleep. In the morning he woke up. His mother said he got up and thumped to the ground. John didn't remember doing that, he thought he just went to sleep. John was very, very confused. He once again walked down to the basement with a baseball bat in hand.

He came in saying "Where are you sir Pumpkin?" The pumpkin man ran at him like a cheetah finding his prey. John ran around the cellar while putting up a loser symbol with his fingers. The Pumpkin-Man finally caught up to John. The Pumpkin-Man tied John up in an old rope that lay in the basement for years. John eventually had enough energy to untie himself and hit the Pumpkin-Man with his bat. The Pumpkin-Man fell into the dark abyss. John ran up to the living room and said to his mom "Mom! There was a mean evil Pumpkin-Man in the cellar!" his mother sighed, "John, you have a big imagination-" "Mom, why do you never believe me?" "Did you just talk back to me? You are a grounded little man. This is no way to act." John limped up the stairs to his room. Now knowing he was grounded, he did not know what to do now. He had to figure out what this Pumpkin-Man was or who it was. He didn't know, his mother did not believe him and now he was grounded. He looked at his window, the sky rumbled. It became as gray as a dark tin can. Thunder came booming down. A shadow in his room looked like the Pumpkin-Man he thought everything was the Pumpkin-Man. It seemed like the end was near. He finally broke. He took his baseball bats and quietly strolled down to the cellar. Bat in hand. No more was he slacking.

He opened the door and stepped down the stairs. The light was bright. The face of this creature. He swung his bat left, right, up, and down. He swung in every direction. The pumpkin lay down unconscious, John took off the pumpkin's head. He was very surprised to see it was his friend he had not seen for a year! John's friend said "No more will I lie. I was never your friend. Nor am I human I have come for vengeance. Your grandfather killed my father. And now your family is going to pay." John kept swinging his bat everywhere. Enough to make the alien float off into mere dust. He quietly went up to his room. Now knowing he could sleep soundly, like a baby. Then there was a knock at his door. It was not his parents.
