A Joker Kills a Jack

Jack the Joker.

That's what I called my best friend, Jack Terone. He was a good friend, always by my side, cheering me up when I was down. You might think that's what all friends do, but there was just something a little more comforting about the way Jack did it. He was always very artistic. He created lots of moody paintings. He also loved old music. What was strange though is that all the old music CDs Jack owned never seemed to be real. I tried looking them up on the internet a bunch of times, with no results found. It's like me and him were the only ones that knew about them.

Anyways, I thought old music was a strange interest due to us only being in Elementary School at the time, but I never complained, because my parents had told me at least 100 times to let other people have their own opinions. Then one day, in Grade 5, we were assigned a video project in English class. We had to make an explorational video representing how we think of the world. Jack never looked to happy when we were assigned the project.

Later that day, being my lazy self, I told Jack that he should make the video himself and afterwards deliver it to me so that I could criticize it. That weekend, the doorbell to my house rang and when I answered, some people in strange masks playing one of Jack's favorite songs presented themselves, and one of them gave me Jack's video. They then walked away, not saying a word.

I put the video in my VCR and started watching. The video wasn't much. Just Jack recording a doll with a smiling mask. One of his old songs were playing in the background. Then, Jack started wrestling with the doll as if it had attacked him. It was dark and blurry, but that's what I was able to make out. Then, the video ended.

Being young at the time, I was incredibly creeped out by the video. I never bothered showing it to the class and I got an F for the video project. I learned a lesson that when you're doing a group project, make sure you do the equal amount of work as your partner(s). I had never seen Jack again ever since that very day.
