Abandoned by Six Flags

One time when I was a child, I visited Six Flags New England with my family. I remembered enjoying the two wooden roller coasters that the park had. Anyways, I had mostly forgotten about this trip until I was about to move away to college. While digging through some old belongings of mine, I found a pamphlet that read "Visit Six Flags Redneck Woods! Opening April 1998 in Charles Town, West Virginia." After looking the pamphlet over, I googled information about the park, only to find nothing. I went to a forum about amusement parks and asked about it. One man told me that it was an abandoned amusement park development that had began but stopped for unknown reasons. He also told me that the park was located off of US Route 340 in a remote area near Harpers Ferry. I decided to drive down there with my camera to see what it was all about.

When I exited off the 340 highway, I saw a rusty metal sign off in the woods that read "Six Flags Redneck Woods". A crumbling path led under the sign and passed by pyramids of old moonshine bottles and Mountain Dew cans. Must be some authentic decor, I thought to myself. As I continued down the road, I began to hear a faint whining, twanging sound in the distance. I continued on down the path, even though I became frightened. I stopped to take a photo of a dead possum sitting atop a pyramid of old Coors cans and Moonshine bottles. The twanging sound became louder. I approached a pavilion labeled "Rednecks Only". The twanging noise started to give me headaches and my ears started bleeding. There was a door leading into the pavilion that was slightly ajar. I reluctantly opened the door to reveal a circle of the scariest things I had ever seen. They all looked related and they likely all shared genes. A husband and wife looked like they could have been cousins and they likely were. Who knows what these people do to each other. There, right in front of me, was a man with a black, greasy beard that stretched to the floor. His teeth were replaced with little stubs and he was missing one eye. On his head was a rotting possum carcass. I realized why the park had been abandoned as I fled to the safety of my car.
