Aggretsuko: Retsuko Says Goodbye
I was an avid watcher of Aggretsuko, I was particularly fond of the first two seasons and even the third season, but I stopped being a fan after I discovered something appalling related to the show.
Let me explain; there was actually going to be a different ending to the last episode of season 3, and actually more darker. If you didn't watch the last episode of the season, basically (SPOILER ALERT) the entire episode involves Retsuko being attacked by a deranged fan of her music, and she's left traumatized by what had happened (SPOILER ALERT), but, there was gonna be an entirely different story that was even more darker than the final one. Here's the story.
I was once on an Aggretsuko subreddit searching for some stuff to laugh at, until I found a very interesting post from the voice actor of Retsuko, it said:
"Season 3 was gonna be much more darker than it was, in fact, it was gonna be the last season of the entire show, but we changed it, here's what would have been the final episode"
Followed by that statement was a link to a never seen before episode of the show, it was named "Retsuko Says Goodbye". The episode started off normally, from what I could tell, it felt exactly like the last episode of season 3, and it played like the last episode of season 3, except when it got to the attack part, it did not feel like the last episode of season 3. In the last episode of season 3, it involved Retsuko being attacked by a fan and becoming unconscious from it, but she doesn't die. But here, the attack was... different, the fan actually succeeded at attacking Retsuko, she got stabbed in the back and there were realistic blood everywhere, and you could hear her scream in agony when it happened, and then he kept stabbing her some more and more until she died, it was very gory and it admittedly almost made me sick to my stomach. Haida came in and saw what happened, unable to stop the fan as he got away, Haida ran over to Retsuko's dead body, "Retsuko! Retsuko? Retsuko! RETSUKOOOOOO!!!", he screamed, Haida started to cry, and it felt real, as if the voice actor was actually crying. The screen then faded to black, and cut to a funeral scene of Retsuko, everyone was there, Haida, Fenneko, Tsunoda, Resasuke, Tadano, Anai, heck, even Ton, they were all crying, and then they said "We're gonna miss you, Retsy". Resasuke placed a flower over her coffin, and Haida made a speech at the funeral about how much of a great person she was.
It then cut to a scene where Haida was crying at his home, seemingly unable to cope with the loss of Retsuko, as the episode progressed, Haida started to cry even harder. As it turns out, Haida was starting to lose his sanity, and it got to the point where he wasn't laughing anymore... he started to laugh maniacally and scream about how he was gonna kill everyone. It cut to him going to a prison cell with a knife, he went over to the prison cell where the unhinged fan that killed Retsuko is, and fucking stabbed in the heart with super realistic details, I got so sick I vomited at the screen and had to take a break for a few minutes before coming back to the episode. After he was done, I could hear the sounds unhinged fan trying to breath, before ultimately passing out and dying, Haida screamed "HA HA HA HA HA, THATS WHAT YOU GET FOR KILLING MY FRIEND YOU EVIL SON OF A BITCH, I HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR NEW HOME IN HELLLLLLLLL!!!!!!", he then started to laugh maniacally some more, and head to the office. Fenneko and Tsunoda greeted Haida, but when Haida noticed it, he grabbed out his knife and said "EAT SHIT GIRLS!!", and got ready to stab them, the two girls screamed in fear and tried to run away, but it was no use, they both got stabbed in the backs, they managed to escape his attack, but it did not save them in the long run, they eventually passed out and died in hiding after having nothing to heal them with. Haida then, went in the episode and grabbed Resasuke by the neck, and he fucking snapped his neck!
Haida was screaming, and there was blood all over his face, he had a crazy smile on his face and looked like he was ready to kill more people, he stabbed Anai in the eyes, and he screamed in agony and bled everywhere, he did the same thing to everyone else in the building until he got bored of it and gave up. It then cut to Haida looking at the audience and he said something, "I hope you're proud, I HOPE YOU ARE PROUD YOU PIECES OF SHITS, YOU THINK KILLING ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS OVER SHITTY ASS MUSIC IS THE WAY TO GO?!?! EH!?! WELL HERE YOU GO!!!! NOT ONLY IS SHE DEAD, BUT ALL OF HER FRIENDS TOO!!! I HOPE YOU GOT WHAT YOU WANTED!!! FUCK YOU ALL!!!!!", and then it cut to Haida cutting himself with the knife and then he died. The episode faded to black and played the normal credits, but there were not music, instead, maniacal laughter from all the characters, it was freaky and it scared me badly. I shut off the episode and went to bed, trying to process what I saw and thinking to myself "Was that really real? Did I really see what I just saw?". I tried to forget about it, but it was stuck in my mind.
I emailed the voice actor of Aggretsuko about the episode for more answers, and she said this:
"Hi Johnathon.
So... we're sorry that we traumatized you with that episode, we didn't necessarily came up with the idea of that ending, someone in the writing team came up with it, we soon fired him afterwards. We didn't approve of the idea of the episode before we shot it, but we had to do it anyways, I'm very sorry.
