Blank Blue Screen

Back in 2007, I went over to my friends house and played Gameboy games, he didn't have much only a few to choose from. But there was one GameBoy game that was tucked at the back of his cabinet. The cartridge had no label or cover, it was all grey. I was curious me being young, so I put it in to my GameBoy Advance SP and started playing. The GameBoy logo started up and blam, I was right at the title screen. What it showed was a carpet leading to a gold round door, with all of Mario's friends on both sides (I assumed this was a Mario game.) Mario popped out the door rolling on a ball trying to keep his balance. He fell off the ball and started laughing. Now, the strange thing was about this is that the music was very disturbing, it was creepy 8-bit beeps and bloops in different pitches and a eerie sound in the background. I didn't think anything about it but thought it was weird to hear this kind of music in this happy setting, let alone in a Mario game. I pressed start and it showed all the minigames you could choose from, the music changed to regular like Mario music.

Some minigames were fun and playable, but others were really glitched. I played this one minigame simply called "Boxing." It worked fine for a few seconds then it started to glitch out and pixels and random, deformed sprites started scattering all over the place faster than you can say wtf. Also, the music changed to eerie, dark 8-bit music. I took the GameBoy cartridge out and blew in it. I put it back in, and the title screen was the same, eerie music in the background. I tried the boxing game again and same thing, glitched out. Took it out, and told my friend "I think something is wrong with your game" He didn't respond. I put it back in the cabinet being a little freaked out. I started having nightmares, hearing that creepy 8-bit music in the background.

It wasn't until 2 years later until I found out that game was called "Game and Watch Gallery 4." the gameplay videos I saw on YouTube were NOTHING like the version I played.

So who did this to the blank GameBoy cartridge I played, and how did my friend get this strange game? Was the game damaged, or was it hacked to scare kids like me. You decide.

I called my friend and asked to see if he still had that game, he responded "What the hell are you talking about?" Weirdly, he said it very angrily, which seems kind of suspicious.
