Catherine the Maniac

Catherine stood on the front lawn of her house, staring out into the street. As cars rolled by, she let her eyes follow them until they were out of sight. As the breeze picked up, Catherine's long, curly, brunette hair was blown eastward. Her mind wasn't on this world today. She was too busy thinking about this new school, this new town, and her new home. She had never wanted to move here, but her mother had gotten a promotion. So they had to travel all the way to Illinois to move there.

Catherine was suddenly snapped out of it by her brother, Tristan. He was yelling out, "CATHERINE! Mom said it's time for dinner." Catherine shook her head and removed her glasses to wipe them on her shirt. She turned around and walked back to the house. As she entered the door, she was greeted by her brother by him saying, "What's your problem today? You were just standing out there like a weirdo."

"Uhm.. just getting used to the new scene?"

"Sure, Mom's waiting for you."

Catherine walked into the dining room to see her mother setting the table. She saw Catherine in the walkway and smiled, "Hi honey, come here and sit down." Catherine obeyed and sat in the chair her mother had pulled out for her. "TRISTAN! GET IN HERE!" Her mother yelled. Catherine silently chuckled as Tristan rushed in and sat next to Catherine. They all ate silently until Catherine's mother interrupted, "So, are you two excited for school tomorrow?" Tristan smiled and said brightly, "Yeah, I just hope Cathy over here won't make me seem any less cooler." Catherine glared at him said, "Asshole."

"What? I'm just saying your not the coolest, sis."

"I'm cooler then you."

"Pfft, you wish!"

Catherine glared at him again and stood up. She grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and popped him in the jaw. He yelled out in pain and grabbed where she had punched him. "You stupid bitch! That hurt!" "I'm not going to have my younger brother bully me around." She said, sitting back down. "Hey, you two stop fighting and calm down! You both are in high school, be a little more mature!" Their mother said slamming a fork on the table. The room was silent for a bit, and finally their mother said, "Go get ready for bed. You have a big day ahead of you tomorrow." Catherine and Tristan got up from the table and walked to their rooms. Catherine entered her room, and stared at all the unpacked boxes still there. She looked around for her clothes box, and took out a something to wear for pajamas. She walked to her bathroom and brushed her teeth, washed her face, the usual things.

She walked back to her bedroom and laid down in bed. As she was about to fall asleep; she felt her head starting to pulsate. She snapped awake and groaned in pain. The pain was excruciating; it felt as if someone was taking a knife and stabbing her in the back of the head again, and again, and again. After about 10 minutes, it stopped. She let out a long, drawn out sigh and rubbed her eyes. "What the hell was that?" She thought. She simply shrugged it off, thinking of it as nothing. Catherine pulled up the covers to her chin and yawned. She looked up at the clock, almost 11:00pm. Catherine rolled over to face the wall and drifted back to sleep.

That night she dreamt of her going to school. She was walking into her classroom, books in her arms and her glasses on the tip of her nose. When she walked into the classroom, it was pitch black. She heard teenagers talking to each other and laughing, but didn't see anyone. And suddenly, the lights flipped on. Everyone was staring at her. But their eyes were hallow; just black holes in their heads. They were all smiling, their grins spreading from ear to ear, literally. From their eyes and mouth, blood dripped down on the front of their shirts.

Catherine dropped her books in fear and backed up to the blackboard. She pushed her glasses up all the way and blinked. They still sat their, staring at her. Catherine looked down to see a giant puddle of blood underneath. She screamed and looked back up to her hands and arms. She screamed again to see blood streaming down her arms and dripping off the tips of her fingers. She turned around quickly and saw a giant mirror had replaced the blackboard. Yet again, another scream escaped her vocal chords. Her face had the same expression just like the students. Hallow eyes, and a large mouth. But this time her mouth was a large frown spreading down to her jaw line. She reached up to touch her face. The feel of her skin was leathery and un-human like. A male student with jet black hair said, "Why are you so upset Catherine? You should be happy. Just like us..."

Catherine awoke with a jerk. She sat straight up, her hands trembling and sweat pouring down her face. She regained her breathing back to normal and wiped a drop of sweat from her forehead with a swift flick of the wrist. Throwing her legs over the side of the bed, she glanced up at the clock to see it was 6:30am. A yawn escaped from her mouth and she scratched her head. "What the fuck was that dream about? Oh well.. I'm probably just scared of a new school." Catherine sighed and walked to the kitchen to see her mother preparing breakfast. "Hey sweetie, breakfast is almost done." Her mother looked at Catherine's terror-stricken, pale face and said, "What's wrong dear?" Catherine shook her head and simply said, "N-nothing mom.. Just kinda jumpy today."

"And why is that?"

"Oh.. just a nightmare from last night."

"Well it's just a nightmare, no need to worry. Here, have some eggs. But first go wake up your brother."

Catherine groaned and walked back down the hallway to Tristan's bedroom. He was sleeping in his bed, in his "usual" position. He was almost falling of the bed, his right arm dangling off, and his legs sprawled out. Catherine winced as a bit of drool dripped onto his pillow. "HEY LAZY, WAKE UP." She yelled. Tristan sat up sleepily and got up. "Breakfast?" He asked. "Yeah, mom wants-" Catherine was interrupted by a vision. The vision was of Tristan in his room the way he was now, but blood dripped from the walls, down to the wooden floor. It all gathered together on the floor, and Tristan was standing in it. On Tristan, blood was dripping from every pore on his body, and a large cut ran down his belly. His intestines drooped out from the wound onto the floor. And he had that same face, hallow eyes, and big demonic grin.

The vision was soon gone. But it scared Catherine enough that she screamed. Tristan was spooked and ran to his sister's aid. "Cathy! What's wrong??" Soon their mother came running. She grabbed onto Catherine and spun her around so she was facing her, "Catherine what happened?"

"I-I don't know..... I saw something."

"What? What did you see?"

Catherine told her mother about the vision, and as she got deeper into the story, her mother's face lost all it's color. "Maybe it's just from your nightmare.. Your probably just spooked." Catherine gulped and nodded, "Your probably right, mom."

After both Tristan and Catherine were ready for school, they both bolted out the door to their bus stop. There they stood, waiting for the bus to arrive. Catherine was too frightened to talk to Tristan, and just stood there, looking at her black Converse shoes. Tristan took note to her behavior and asked, "You okay?"

"Y-yeah I'm... fine. It was just.. Really creepy."

"Well if you keep seeing stuff like that, you should tell me."

"O-okay."

Soon after their little chat, the bus arrived. They got on, paid their fee, and sat next to each other. The bus driver started the bus up again and drove to their school. When they arrived to their new high school, they got off the bus and walked to the big, front doors. Catherine sighed and pushed the door open, and was shocked to see how many kids flooded the hallways. Catherine was greeted by the school principal and both Tristan and Catherine were led to their lockers. Their lockers were next to each other. The principal left the two be and they both got their things for Study Hall. Catherine walked down to the eastern wing, Tristan, the western. Catherine walked into a classroom, and to her misfortune, it looked EXACTLY like the room in her nightmare. She chose a desk and listened to the teacher taking attendance. When the teacher got to "Catherine Davis" her tone of voice had changed. It didn't sound human, it sounded evil and demonic. Catherine's eyes widened and her heart skipped a beat. "Not now, not here!" She screamed in her head. Then everything was back to normal once again. People murmured at her name and a girl even said, "Is she that new kid?" A boy responded, "Not a kid I think. Catherine is an old lady's name." Catherine sighed and turned to look at the boy. "Well ya know, I'm not an old lady. I'm fucking 17, just like you. I was named after my grandma who died from a brain tumor. I honestly hate my name too, but who the fuck cares." Everything went quiet. Luckily for Catherine, the teacher hardly heard them and didn't even acknowledge the fact she had just used "the f-bomb" two times.

An hour passed and study hall was over. Catherine gathered her things and walked out the classroom. She grabbed a piece of paper out of her pocket, her schedule. Her first class was Science. She sighed and quietly said to herself, "I hate science." As she walked down to the science room, another vision hit her like a smack in the face.

She was walking down the same hall, and everything pretty much looked normal. No blood, no guts. But every person was different. They all had the same exact demonic face, but this time, they all had eyes. Their eyes looked like normal eyes, but were huge and bloodshot. Soon after, they all started to cry. And when they cried, blood streamed down from their tear ducts. The vision was soon gone, like the last one.

Everything went back to normal, and everyone looked like they had before. Catherine sighed and continued walking, thinking that maybe if she ignored these visions, they would eventually go away. Oh how wrong she was...

The rest of the school day went on normally, all her classes passing quickly. But at the point of History, her 6th period class, things got strange. The moment Catherine walked into the room, her tension increased. Something wasn't right. She had a feeling, and that feeling wasn't a good one. Catherine shrugged it off and sat in her seat. The teacher started lecturing on about The Korean War, and how it would be their first unit in history. Catherine slowly started to nod off, as she had always done in history class. Finally she laid her head on the desk, and right as she was about to fall asleep, that same pulsating came back. But this time, the pain was 10 times worse. She yelled out in pain and fell to the floor. She clenched at her head and was even at the point of yanking her hair out her scalp. The teacher and a few other students came to her aid. At each throb in her head, an image flashed. It was her, but her smile was cruel and evil, and she had slit her mouth at the corners and sewed the wounds. Her eyes were normal, but horribly bloodshot. She was wearing a black sweater, black jeans, and her black converse. Her hair was normal, but blood dripped from the ends.

As soon as the pulsating in her head stopped, the image disappeared. Catherine was sweating bullets from the pain, and her body was violently twitching. She was breathing harshly, and she could feel her self about to vomit. Holding back the feeling of purging, she stood up. The teacher and a male student with blonde shaggy hair helped her stand on her feet. Catherine gulped and let out a deep breath. She regained her breathing to a normal pace, and the teacher quickly suggested she walk down to the nurse's office. Catherine nodded and the teacher also said, "Isaac, walk with her." The boy with blonde hair that had helped her up nodded and followed her out the classroom. He caught up to Catherine and walked beside her. "What was that all about?" He asked. "I.. I honestly don't fucking know." Catherine replied, looking down at her shoes.

The two soon arrived at the nurses office. They told the nurse what had happened, and she let Catherine lay down until they got a hold of her mother. Isaac decided to stay with the nurse, and Catherine went to sleep on the bed. She dreamt of a white place, and she was walking around. She walking towards a black x, very far off in the distance. As she got closer, the demonic faces flashed in her head. When she reached the x, a very disturbing image popped up. It was of Catherine, sitting in a room. The room's only light source was a lamp in the middle of the room. Intestines, blood, corpses, and pictures of penciled out demons were hung everywhere. Catherine just sat in the corner, crying and crying. Her wails and weeps echoed throughout the room. And then Catherine looked up. Her face was darkened. Her eyes hallow, and her mouth slit in the corners, and stitched up. Blood dripped from her eyes and the corners of her mouth.

Catherine woke up and screamed. Both Isaac and the nurse ran to her aid. Catherine stopped screaming and returned to a decent state of mind. Isaac and the nurse just stood there, wondering what the fuck was going on.

Catherine's mom later came to pick up Catherine, and the nurse had Isaac tell what had happened. Catherine's mom was horrified, and scared shitless for her daughters well-being. Soon after, Catherine's mother called a local psychiatrist for a therapy session. They drove to the doctors office quickly and sat in the waiting room. Catherine picked at a hole in her jeans and her mother sat there, her eyes darting every which way, studying every part of the room. The psychiatrist came out and greeted them. He led Catherine into the room and motioned her to sit on the chair. The psychiatrist pulled out a notebook and said, "So Catherine, your mother told me you have...very vivid visions and dreams. What are these "visions and dreams" of Catherine?"

Catherine gulped and quietly said, "Things."

"What kind of things?"

"Well, one of my sights are of people. Normal looking people.. but their.. Faces."

"What about their faces?"

"They're eyes are hallow...and their mouths are stretched into these HORRIBLE grins.. It's like someone took a knife and slit the corners of their mouth all the way to their ears. And then, blood drips from their eyes and mouths.. Down onto their shirts."

"That's your only sight?"

"No...there's another one. It's usually...a bloody room. With all kinds of gore. Like intestines, hearts, blood dripping from everywhere. And sometimes.. There's pictures of these demon looking things hanging up all around. And sometimes... I get these head pains."

"Explain these head pains, Catherine."

"They happen at random. And it's usually this pulsating pain.. As if someone is taking a knife and stabbing me in the back of the head. And if it's really painful.. I see images. The images are of me. And I usually look INSANE. My eyes are extremely blood shot.. And the corners of my mouth are slit and stitched up."

The therapist looked at Catherine in shock and slowly shook his head. "I don't know what those visions mean Catherine, but I do recommend medication. Here." The therapist filled out a prescription sheet and handed it to Catherine. "Take this. Give it to your mother, and get this medication as soon as possible."

...

Two weeks passed. The meds didn't do a thing. Catherine kept getting the visions, but as the days passed, they got worse. They got more....disturbing.

...

Catherine had awoken from another nightmare, but now she was used to it. The nightmares didn't frighten her much anymore. Catherine yawned and got out of bed, checking the clock to see it was 6:45am. She sighed and walked into her bathroom. She studied her face in the mirror. Her eyes looked more sunken, they both had giant black bags under them. Her eyes were bloodshot, horribly. Her skin had lost it's peach color and was slowly turning into a very light shade of grey, almost white. Her mother was starting to worry about Catherine's body. Everyday she ate less, got outside less, and talked less. She would be sick more often and would seclude herself in her room. Tristan could hear her from across the hallway, quietly whispering to herself, "They can't get me here...They can't get me here.. I'm safe here.."

Finally, Catherine's mother got her to go to school. The morning Catherine got dressed into a purple t-shirt and blue jeans. But...something turned Catherine back to her closet. Catherine slowly pulled out a new pair of clothes. A black sweater, and black jeans. She replaced the clothes she was currently wearing with the new ones, and put on her black Converse. Catherine continued on with getting ready for the day.

As Catherine was about to leave, something pulled her back. She could hear a faint whisper in her ear saying, "Take the gun, KILL THEM ALL." Catherine screamed in her head, "No! No I'm not listening to you!"

"DO IT!"

"NO!"

A sudden force pushed her back in the house and slammed the front door shut. Catherine slid backwards on her elbows and got far away from the door. She panted harshly and stood to her feet. "GET THE GUN, CATHERINE." The voice said again. Catherine shook her head, "Your not real! You can't tell me what to do!"

"DO IT OR I'LL KILL EVERYONE YOU LOVE!"

"WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH ME??"

"Your soul.."

Suddenly she heard laughter. Evil, maniacal, laughter. And it was coming from behind her. Fearing for her safety, she turned around to see a black silhouette of a man. She had seen him in his dreams before. He had the same fucking face....big evil grin...and hallow eyes. Catherine started to cry when she saw him.

"What's wrong pretty girl? I'm just trying to make your life easier..."

"How? You've made my life a living hell!!"

"Don't you understand Catherine? You are the one." "The one..?"

"Yes, the one to cleanse this world of corruption. And just by starting at your school. You kill all the weak, and join forces with the strong..."

"What? You're a madman..."

"I'm not a madman. Don't you think it makes sense in the slightest bit? Strong ones will be able to live on this Judgment day. Weak ones will pay the price...with their life."

The shadow man started cackling again, his evil laughter causing Catherine's ears to ring. She fell back to her knees and clenched to her ears. "GET OUT OF MY HEAD!"

"Don't you understand? I sent you all those visions and dreams to send you a message. I was telling you to listen to me. Listen to the visions. They are what you are going to become. Catherine, you are the one."

Suddenly, something in Catherine snapped. "I am the one." She said quietly, placing her hands from her ears onto her lap. "I am the ONE." The shadow man smirked and said, "Finally, you get it. You are a Messiah to this world Catherine, you will lead a strong army to take over and defeat all your foes."

"I am the one."

"Yes Catherine....you are the one."

"I AM THE ONE!"

Catherine smirked, a smirk that resembled one of true insanity. Her eyes were widened, and she slowly started to laugh. Her laugh was a soft chuckle at first, but soon it turned into this booming cackle that rang throughout the house. Soon her mother came, awoken from slumber. "Catherine sweetie, why aren't you at school? And why are you laughing?"

Catherine stood to her feet, and looked her mother in the eyes. "Mother, are you weak?"

"What? Catherine what do you mean?"

"ARE YOU WEAK, MOMMY DEAREST?"

"Catherine what is wrong with you!"

Catherine then quickly dashed to the kitchen, and casually walked back with a butcher knife in her hand. "I guess you wont tell me mom. I guess we'll have to see then." Catherine smirked again and wiped her blade of on her sweater. She suddenly charged at her mother, knife pointing outwards. She slammed into her mother, knocking her to the ground. Catherine's mother screamed and tried to squirm free. But Catherine was determined. She quickly drew the butcher knife and slit her mother throat, blood squirted on Catherine, covering her face. Catherine suddenly frowned and quietly said, "My own mother wasn't strong enough."

Catherine sighed and wiped the blade on her sweater again. She got up and walked to her mothers room. She grabbed the gun on her nightstand and put it in her back pocket, making sure that it was well hidden under her sweater. Suddenly, a hand touched her shoulder, "You did well." Catherine turned around to see the shadow man, smiling at her. "I did well, sir?"

"Very well. Now, to your school."

"But..I missed the bus long ago."

"Then you walk, or run if you must."

Luckily for Catherine, her school wasn't that far. Maybe a mile away from her house. She nodded and bolted out the door, leaving her mother's corpse on the floor. Catherine ran as fast as she could, her lungs soon starting to burn after the first 5 blocks. She ignored the pain growing in her chest and continued running.

After 10 minutes, she arrived to her school. For about 2 minutes, she attempted regaining her breath. Soon after she regained her normal breathing pace, she opened the front door. "It's time. Do it." A whisper said to her. "Okay, I wont let you down." Catherine said, a smirk lighting up on her face. At the front desk, a secretary perked up her head. "Are you signing in hun?" Catherine's smirk widened and she demonically said, "No. But your signing out, bitch." She pulled the gun out of her back pocket and loaded it quickly. She pointed the gun at the secretary's forehead. Boom. She fell off her chair, dead. Catherine continued shooting everyone in the front office, and within minutes they were all just motionless corpses. Catherine smiled at her work, and continued to the room next to the office, the teachers lounge.

The moment she walked in, a male teacher said standing up, "Hey, your not supposed to be he-" Catherine cut him off by shooting him in the chest. The other teachers screamed, and scrambled for shelter. They weren't quick enough though; Catherine shot them all within seconds. "This is too easy." She said, reloading her gun.

Catherine continued going throughout the school, shooting everyone. And to her surprise, no one fought back. No one called the police, no one got up to protect themselves, nothing. "Their all weak..." The voice said again. "Yeah I get that." Catherine replied, stepping into a bathroom. She busted open stalls to see if anyone was in them. No one. She sighed and walked up to the sink. She splashed water on her face. Her eyeliner and mascara smudged and dripped down her face. Suddenly, she got a thought. She remembered what she had looked like in her visions, and pulled out a knife. She steadied her hand and raised the knife up to her mouth, and slowly began slitting the corners into a wide smile. She yelled out in pain as she finished and grabbed the sides of her face and watched in the mirror and blood ran down her hands. Catherine weakly walked over to the first aid kit in the bathroom and pulled out the stitches and a needle. She pierced her skin with the needle and started stitching up the slits in her mouth. She cut the string and cleaned her wounds with Neosporin.

Catherine studied herself in the mirror. "Perfect." She said out loud to herself. She started laughing again, that horrible, evil, maniacal laughter. But soon after, the voice interrupted her. "The cops are here. And I have a plan. Close your eyes."

Catherine did as she was told. "Now open them." The voice said. When she did, she was back at home. "Wow." She said, giggling. "Catherine, we can't stay in this city much longer."

"I know."

"Grab all the weapons you can, but them in your suitcase, and get the fuck outta here."

Catherine yet again, did as she was told and dragged the suitcase out into her mothers car. She started the ignition and backed the car out of the driveway. She sped down the street, headed north. "Find a hotel, and stay there for awhile." The voice said. Catherine nodded and said, "Yes master. When will I get to kill next?"

"Very soon darling, VERY soon."

"Breaking news! There has been a streak of public shooting, first starting of at a high school, and then leading to a hotel not far off from Kenosha, Wisconsin. There were few survivors of each shooting, but one survivor named Tristan Davis says he knows her personally. Tell me Tristan, how do you know he?"

"She's my sister.. I didn't know... I didn't know."

"What didn't you know?"

"That she would become a fucking psycho bitch."

Catherine turned off the TV in her motel room, and prepared to hit the road again. "Fuck, now I gotta burn every document about me. I'm gonna kill that motherfucker, if it's the last thing I do."
