Childhood Fears

Ever turned on the light because you thought you felt something? Or saw something? Irrational, isn't it?

It is the kind of thing expected from a child.

But you're not a kid anymore, right?

You turn off your lights, making sure to put on your TV before you do. Start watching a few Family Guy episodes. Before 4 episodes finish, you see a new channel, doesn't look special, it's just another BBC channel. It has the same channel listing as the BBC Three you are on, just with the bonus of being HD. You get on and the episodes look more realistic. Nothing huge.

At about 3AM, you decide to turn off the TV and turn over to go to sleep. You feel like you have had your eyes closed now for at least 30 minutes. Getting annoyed and bored, you go on your iPhone. "Fuck! I had it there!" you mumble.

"No you didn't." a soft voice replies.

Puzzled, you look around. A giggle awakens around the room, and a shadow evapourates near the corner. You can't sleep now. Thoughts going through your head. And, well, if I'm honest. I find it kind of funny, but I find it kind of sad. The way you looked all around the room looking for it.

You won't find us.

Anyway, You turn off the annoying tune of Angry Birds, and decide to stay up. You start watching YouTube videos. 6:30 hits, You smile as the sun comes up, Just as your iPhone cuts out, Battery gone. You turn to look at the door, It's closed, Just the way you like it. You laugh to yourself getting up from bed.

"I'm an idiot, just childhood fears. Jesus, I'm 22, I shouldn't be scared like that." is the voice going through your mind. You put one foot on the floor, the cold hard floor. You shake your head and lift yourself up to your feet.

"Too late, game over." That sweet, soft voice screams.

A little girl appears in front of you, and pulls you down through the floor to me.

You failed.

You know, she is only a kid.

She has all that fears kids have.

Like being afraid of strangers.

Oh, and most importantly, she is afraid of the dark.
