My name is Nick, and some of my favorite games ever are: Deus EX: Human Revolution, Skyrim, Legend of Zelda: A link to the past, and Sonic The Hedgehog. I have beaten these games on several occasions and at multiple difficulty levels (game permitting). I have always thought it would be interesting to have them mixed together, the story of Deus EX, the itemization and complexity of Skyrim, the characters of Zelda, and the speed of Sonic, alas this may never be, or will it?
One night I was sitting at my computer surfing the web, when I came across a forum, where a program was being discussed. I read through the comments and came across "Combined . exe", reading the comments indicated that this file was a mash-up of Deus EX, Skyrim, Zelda, and Sonic, I was astonished! I couldn't believe that someone else had this idea too, I had to download this game now! I got a look at the commenter's name and realized that they used the same alias as I did "Dragonman88" but I thought it nothing more than a coincidence.
After hours of searching, I finally found a torrent site with the download, and the posters alias was again "Dragonman88." I proceeded to download the file, and install the game, upon install my screen flashed red, blue, black, green, and finally the game loaded. It seemed like the author recreated Skyrim in it's entirety, but with Link as the main character, Sonic as a companion, and Adam Jensen as the main antagonist. The game appeared normal besides the obvious changes, I started playing and leveling normally. The game continued this way until I hit level 10, I received the "Master Sword" and a new spell called "Finish Him".
I continued on and thought nothing of it, after all this is an RPG and you're supposed to level up, Then attain new weapons and spells. But I was given the sword, which did feel odd, it even came with a note, it read "This is from an old friend, use it to slay those that would oppose you." I continued on my way and learned that the "Master Sword" would level with me, meaning I wouldn't have to change weapons. I was in a dungeon and decided I hadn't tried the "Finish Him" spell I had gotten. I proceeded to fire the spell at an enemy, when I did the game went dark, Sonic appeared on the screen with blood dripping out of his eye sockets, his pupils had disappeared, and his teeth and claws had become razor sharp, he was grinning and said "As you wish." After this Sonic dashed over, grabbed the hapless guard and a cutscene popped up, it showed Sonic ripping the guards entrails out and eating them, the guard screaming and Sonic telling him "It'll all be over soon," this continued for 2 minutes.
I decided to not use "Finish Him" again, instead opting to just hack and slash my way through. I was a little freaked about the cutscene I had just witnessed, so I decided to take a break. I looked up that forum again and found a new post, titled "The freakiest cutscene yet," the commenter was talking about the cutscene I had just witnessed, the commenter was once again "Dragonman88" and this was posted just an hour before I saw the cutscene. Dragonman88 seemed to have the same reaction to the cutscene that I did, I decided to "PM" this poster and ask them where they were at in the game. They responded about an hour after, they indicated that they were in the same dungeon as I was, and used the ability on a guard as well. I later responded saying that it was a weird coincidence and moved on. I continued to wonder who would make this game, why would they make it. After asking around on several forums, several people asked why I was asking, as they claimed I made this game.
I became distressed after this, I spent several days not playing any video games and just thinking about what they said. I then realized that there was another poster who used the same alias as me, and they must be confusing the two of us. I decided to play the game, looking for some kind of clue as to who made the game. I found graffiti in one dungeon that said "Dragonman88 was here," when I looked in the about screen under options, I saw "Nick aka Dragonman88" credited as creator, programmer, graphics design artist, composer, and producer. I once again found this odd, as I'm not much of a programmer, graphics design artist, musician, and I'm dead broke, I am however a network/system administrator. I decided to ask "dragonman88" a few more questions, he answered about an hour later, informing me that his name is Nick, he uses the alias dragonman88, his favorite video games are: Deus EX: Human Revolution, Skyrim, Legend of Zelda: A link to the past, and Sonic the hedgehog, he also said he was the same age as me, and that he did indeed create the game. I asked him why he would create such a game, he responded, once again, an hour later, he said "Play till the end, listen to Adam's dialogue at the end, and you'll understand."
I felt sick in doing so, but I proceeded to play till the end, during the final boss fight, Adam began a spell, all along muttering to himself "The future and the past are connected, look to the future and you'll see your past, the future is an hour behind the past, when that future is in a parallel universe." I suddenly realized that all correspondence with "Dragonman88" was always in hour intervals, I always thought this only a coincidence. Adam upon finishing his spell enacts a cutscene, this cutscene shows myself walking through the portal, and declaring that, I, from the future and an alternate universe created this game. In a panic, I attempted to close the game, I got to the Windows desktop, but my screen flashed red, blue, black, and green, the game then loaded. I pulled the power cord out but the game still displayed. I was freaked out, but decided to see what the game wanted me to see, the alternate me said to use the "Finish Him" spell on him and the game would end, I wanted the game to end more than anything, I used the spell and the game closed.
A week later I received an E-mail from "Dragonman88" who said "You have seen the end, but not the beginning, I proved (we'll we proved) that other universes exist and can interact with each other, I now wonder, since you killed me (yourself) at the end, and I created this twisted game, which of us is evil? There must always be a good side and an evil side."
