Coughing During an Exam

Today I had a stats exam. It started as all my exams did, with the professor going over last minute concerns before telling us to begin. 15 minutes in everything is going well, until I feel a little tickle in the back of my throat. I take stock of my surroundings. I'm in a large gymnasium writing with 250 other students. The gym is dead silent. That eliminates coughing as an option. I activate my willpower and decide to wait the tickle out. But the tickle soon turns into an itch. I feel a drop of sweat roll down the side of my head. I reach for my water bottle with a uneasy hand. The water rushes down my throat but somehow misses the itch. That seems to amplify it, the itch becoming a burn. The desire to cough is overwhelming, but it is far too late to back down. I see spots of colour in my vision. The exam forgotten, the only thought pounding through my head is 'do not cough'. The burn is rising like the stream in a kettle, I don't know how much time has passed since I last took a breath. I try for another sip of water but my body does not respond, and I start seeing red. It feels as if there is a colony of fire ants scuttling within my throat. All reason flees my mind. I've become an animal with a sole driving purpose of not coughing. I bite down on my desk. The burning grows to an inferno. I bite clean through the wood and laminate, violently blowing shit out of my ass as my mind looses control over subconscious processes. The cough is a unstoppable force but my will is the unmovable object. Reality comes through in flickers. I'm crushing the throat of a teaching assistant, screaming, blood, chaos. Something as happened to my body, it's grown, deformed, devolved into something primal. I feel it happen with numb horror. My will shatters. I cough. My body implodes with the force of a collapsing star and my consciousness falls into the dark oblivion. Am I the asshole here?
