My name is Josh Steel.

Not long ago, my horrific father had asked me to go get groceries at the store down the road. As brutal and violent as he was, I of course, had to do as he told. As i had walked home, a cold brisk wind caused my spine to shake. As my hand grasped the handle of the grocery bag, the most ugly man you would have ever seen rushed to me. He looked and acted as if he was deathly sick. I should have listened as he uttered a simple task for me to perform... "BURN IT."

As he handed me the disc, he disappeared into the darkness. At this time, it was about 7:26 at night. I looked upon the charming surface of the disc, which seemed to look like an ordinary computer game. One thing then had caught my attention. On the surface of the disk, hidden within all of the simple colors, was a deep red "DEAD" which seemed to have been etched into the disk by a child trying to play hide and seek with a computer game. This intrigued me so I, being the "curious cat" of the family, had to see what this game had to offer. As i walked into the driveway, I had remembered that my parents were at work, which was VERY good news. I threw down the groceries onto the counter, and headed upstairs into my room. I really wish that I had paid attention to what the sick-ass man had said for me to do. I regret it more than anything i had ever not done.

As I put the disk into the DVD drive of my computer, the good ol' what do you want to do with this device menu flashed on my screen. I opened it up and it had 2 files inside. One of them was DEAD.EXE. It had a picture of a skull being held by a baby as its icon. The other was 10101431.txt, but it seemed that i could not open the file.I had figured since the disk was scratched, that was why I could not open it, so it didn't bother me. I clicked on the DEAD.EXE on the disk. My computer suddenly went black, and the light bulbs in my home BURST. Having no light, I opened the window. As soon as the light from the window hit the screen, the computer suddenly started flickering. Opening credits for a video game began to roll. "Death To Josh Incorporated Presents..... DEAD.EXE-- The Game. The computer stopped flickering. The menu came up. It was completely black except for 2 options. One was "Play," and the other was "Leave now" I thought it was funny. I hit Play. The computer flashed "Wrong choice, Josh." At this point 2 things were in my mind.

.1 How did it know my name?

.2 I don't have speakers.

I was getting scared. Then the game started. It was a 16 bit game. A simple little 16 bit game. I couldn't believe it.

The player looked exactly like me. It looked WAY too real to be a 16 bit game. Though, it looked like my town I lived in. So I went to where my dad was working. Of course. I couldn't escape him in real life, and I couldn't in a computer game.

I walked up to him and there were 2 options. One of them was "Kill." The other one was also "Kill." Because i couldn't choose any other, I clicked Kill. The computer flashed a very hyper-realistic Picture of my dead father, stabbed 15 times in the chest with a switchblade knife. It seemed as if you could touch it and would get blood on you. So, I did touch it, and there was a little bit of blood on my finger.

"What the hell?" I was shocked and very scared, yet I continued to play. I went to my house and looked into my bedroom window. Outside of the game, I looked at the window and there I was, staring at myself with a blood soaked switchblade knife. I was scared so I hit ESCAPE hoping the game would turn off, but it didn't. Then, without me controlling, the pixelated version of myself began to chase me with that knife, which was ironic, because my father had slit my wrist with it when I was 5. I ran as quickly as I could, and burst out the door just in time, hitting the ground running.

I looked back at the window of my living room, now open, with myself staring at me. He threw the knife with deadly precision. SMACK! The knife had hit me, dead in the center of the shoulder. I ran EVEN FASTER down the street, dodging cars. I am lucky to have survived. Right now, I am at my friend Jacksons house. He had to go get milk, so i am sitting here alone typing this. Now for the real story

My name is Josh Steel. It's May 17, 2009. I now write this from the comfort of my good friend Timothy's apartment, as a series of strange events have prevented me from entering my home. Three days. I've had it for three days. All because I couldn't say no.

It had been raining for three solid days, as if the heavens knew the monstrosity that had befallen me and echoed their disapproval. I had just bought a days worth of groceries after finishing my shift at the precinct, my feet ached and I was looking forward to returning home. The streets had been oddly active for such a rainy night, and with the misty rain clouding the streets I hadn't noticed a presence behind me until his reflection passed in front of a store window. Dark. Shadowed. Hat pulled low over piercing grey eyes. A shiver slid down my spine. Something was off.

I shook my head. I was tired, seeing things that weren't there, the rain had me sensing things... I grasped my bags tighter and picked up my pace, only a few more blocks to go and I would be home.

The last street had me passing a crowd of people exiting a store, undoubtedly heading home from the rain. I pulled my hat lower over my eyes and wound through the throng of people, ducking past a chattering five year old clinging to her mother's skirts and a puppy yipping at the end of a leash. A tingling sensation started at the back of my neck, the oddly specific feeling of unwavering eyes making me spin on my heels. Nothing. Someone jostled me from behind, and I turned back around to see the shadowy silhouette of a person trailing the group. I shook off a shudder. Nothing was wrong, I needed to get out of the rain...

Arriving at my home, dripping and unhappy, I fished the keys out of my pocket and unlocked the front door, having to juggle the slippery bags in my hand before they tumbled across the wet surface that made up my formerly neat porch. The house was eerily silent as I tossed my keys on the counter. Not the normal silence of living alone, but the unsettling quietness one only takes notice of after watching too many horror movies. Man I need to get some sleep...

Alpha eyed me sleepily from his place by the stairs, not even barking as I entered deeper into the living room. "Hey buddy, miss me?" I asked, shoving odds and ends from the countertop to make room for the bags I still held. He didn't answer, not that I expected one. I tried to turn the lights on. Nothing. I tried again. Still nothing, which was odd because I just replaced the light bulb. I shrugged, it must be the storm.

I looked in one of the cabinets for a candle. Nothing, "I swear I put candles in here" I shrugged "I guess i didn't." I started putting up the groceries as I was putting them up, there was a disc inside.

it spelled on the front of the disc, "DEAD." I held the disc up and said, "This is getting weird." and continued to put up the groceries, after putting them up I took the disc and walked upstairs to examine it, I opened the door, the computer was already turned on "This is impossible i turned it off." I sat in the chair and put the disc in, autorun came up.

I chose browse files, as I looked in and there were two files, one was DEAD.exe, it was huge, 2.3 Gb's it was odd how big it was for a .exe file. the other file was 10101431.txt for some odd reason I couldn't open it, I thought it was the disc so it didn't bother me, so I clicked on DEAD.exe then my computer, started flickering, after a few seconds it stopped flickering, the menu came up and a screeching sound played, i muted the speakers. The menu was completely black except for 2 options, one was.

"Play" the other was, "Exit." I clicked Play, "Wrong choice Josh." first of all how did it know my name, two I muted the speakers, I was getting scared and then the game started, it was a 16 bit game, the player looked exactly like me it although it looked to real to be a 16 bit game though, it looked like my town I lived in so I went to where my dad was working I walked up to him and there were only one option it was, "Kill." Since I couldn't choose any other I clicked Kill and it and the game me stabbed him, then it showed a hyper-realistic picture of my dead father, it seemed like you could touch it and you would get blood on you, so I did and there was a little bit of blood on my finger.

"This cant be real!?" I was shocked, yet I continued to play, I didn't want to hurt anyone else so I walked to my house and looked into my bed room window. outside of the game I looked at the window and there was myself staring at me, I was so scared so I hit the escape button on my keyboard hoping the game would turn off but it didn't, Then without my control, the game version me came through the window and started to chase me with a knife I had in my pocket, I ran as fast as I could and I barely got away, later i had trouble sleeping but somehow I fell asleep, after I woke up Timothy gave me the newspaper and on the front page it said, "Man was stabbed and killed while working in his office, his name was Joe Steel" I was shocked, it could only be one thing...That game... right now I'm at a friends house typing this, that clone is guarding the house to make sure I don't turn off the game.
