Deadquote.exe

I regret downloading it. I didn't even need it. I already had the DSiWare version, so I didn't need it anyways. But I still downloaded it. I knew my computer was acting up and glitching everything, since there were always floating zombies in Left 4 Dead 2.

Then I downloaded Cave Story.

As soon as I opened it, it was glitched. There were missing textures everywhere, the title music was reversed, I can go on. I paid almost no attention to this and just started a new game. It was really weird, though. Instead of going to the save file page, it just immediately started. I was in the Hermit Gunsmith's house with the Spur equipped. It wasn't playing the music from First Cave, though. It was playing the music from Mimiga Village after you escape the Labyrinth.

I left the house, only to find a dark screen. I could only see Quote. I decided to fire a fully-charged Spur, just because. The area was mostly illuminated, but it wasn't what I had expected. It was still dark, with just a thin white outline for the ground and ceiling. There was blood dripping from the ceiling like in Final Cave. The critters were a dark red, and had faces similar to the weaker Rabid Mimiga, and were about the size of the blue ones in the Grasslands. I killed one of them, and then suddenly the screen went completely blood red. It displayed the text, "I wish you hadn't done that." When the screen returned to normal, I found myself in the graveyard by Ma Pignon's storage house. It was silent, besides the sound of a heart beating. I was slightly disturbed by this, as it was perfectly in sync with mine. I quickly left the graveyard, only to hear the pre-Ballos music. The Mimiga were all rabid. I entered Arthur's house, somehow unlocked even though I didn't grab the key at all, and heard the heart beat again. The floppy disk and healing station were gone. I went over to the teleporter to see where I could go. All I saw was an icon of a skull called "???". Seeming how it was the only destination, I selected it. As soon as Quote hopped in the teleporter, he exploded. The "Game Over" theme was backwards and distorted. When I respawned, I was outside of Ballos' chamber. The ghost dog that normally tells you to kill his master was there. It just told me to turn back now. This wasn't very helpful, as the door I normally would have entered through was missing, so I had no choice but to enter Ballos' chamber. On my way to the door, I saw Curly. She looked dead, and all she said to me was "..."

I enter the chamber to hear the song from the normal ending, while the island is falling and it shows the Egg Corridor, Grasslands, Sand Zone and Labyrinth. There was no Ballos, but a monster with the body of Muscle Doctor, and the head of Sue from the Undead Core battle. It claims to be the master of the island, and that it is immortal. Someone walked into the room soon after this. They had Momorin's Mimiga mask, purple hair similar to Curly's, and a recolored Quote outfit. The master stated that this was his minion, here to kill me. I couldn't move, attack, or anything. I was stuck, had lost the Spur, and all the controls had failed. No weapons or controls. I was doomed. The minion defeated me in three or so shots. The screen then went black, except for red text that displayed. "You've condemned yourself." The background slowly faded to an image of a Zalgo-styled Quote.

The game immediately closed after that. I went back to the folder I have the game in, and noticed the game shortcut was renamed deadquote.exe. I opened the file to see the image from the beginning of the Doctor standing with his back turned to the screen, laughing. He was in the graveyard, near two graves. After a few seconds, some text popped up.

"The graves read:

Quote, protector of the Mimiga

Curly Brace, Helper of the Mimiga"

The screen once again faded to a creepy image of Quote, this time his limbs were missing. Balrog was off in the distance, covered in blood, with a demented smile on his face that seemed to go from arm to arm. The game froze up after that, I ended up having to exit through task manager because the mouse was stuck in the middle of the screen. I haven't really played it since then. Shame, since the DSiWare version is one of my favorite games.
