Die.png
I own "Roll 'Em Up Inc." a business that produces all kinds of dice products. We've sold almost a million dollars in merchandise from fuzzy dice to giant dice Halloween costumes. One day, my graphic designer, who we'll call "Paul" for the sake of privacy, said that we needed a new design for a dice hat that was about to hit shelves. I asked him why we needed a redesign.
"Nobody in the test group liked the purple and white design," he said in a somewhat gloomy voice. I told him I'd just look on Google Images for a new design. Paul left the room. So I typed in "dice" in the search bar and many options appeared. I saw a classic design that was white with black dots. I downloaded it onto my computer, and the name it automatically gave the file was "die.png" as you have already guessed from the title. I shuddered for a bit, and shrugged it off as a mere coincidence. I went home, and fell asleep.
I had a vivid nightmare. I was in a large basin-like area with red felt for the flooring. I recognized it immediately as where you throw the dice in Yahtzee. Suddenly, large dice like the one in the image cast huge shadows as they fell down from the sky. I was paralyzed by fear. When I was inevitably crushed by the giant game piece, I woke up in a cold sweat, panting and trying to catch my breath. I went back to sleep scared as all hell.
I went back to work the next morning, staring wide-eyed as the dice went down the production line. I checked my work computer and the hard drive was completely wiped, except for two files. One was "die.png" and the other was "yahtzee.exe" which I assumed was some sadistic hacker's way of freaking me out. But I had work to do, so I shut off the computer and did just that. At the end of the day, I brought my work computer home.
The first thing I did was check out "die.png" which started this whole mess. Nothing had changed about the photo. It was time to play yahtzee.exe. I clicked the icon and the game started. I was presented with a large metal box with a few blood spatters on its sides. There were buttons on the side that said "Roll" in black letters, "Keep" in gray letters, and "Quit" with blood red letters. I assumed I couldn't quit, so I hit roll. A quick image popped up for a split second. It was a man, smiling, with dice for eyes. The dice rolled. I kept some and rolled again. Nothing good. Rolled again. Now "Roll" was replaced with "Reset" in blood red letters. I clicked it. My score was not recorded anywhere. Shrugging it off, I rolled again. This time the image was a message. It told me that I needed a Yahtzee to get my files back. Sounded simple enough, but it was really frustrating. After about an hour of rolling dice and seeing that man with the dice eyes over and over again, I decided to try to quit. My hand shook as I reached for the mouse, and I closed my eyes as I clicked the icon on the screen.
A loud beep came from my speakers. A message appeared.
"YOU CANNOT QUIT ONCE YOU HAVE STARTED."
Well, fuck. Another hour passed. The image of the man started stayed on the screen longer as I kept rolling, sometimes for minutes on end. I eventually rolled the last 3 for the Yahtzee. My computer crashed. When it rebooted, all my files were back. I breathed a sign of relief. But the damn image was still there on my desktop. I tried dragging it to the Recycle Bin, angry that this stupid little image I found on Google Search.
"Administrator permission required to delete this file."
I typed in my password.
"Password incorrect. Password hint: IT WILL NEVER LEAVE THIS COMPUTER, FRIEND..."
At least all my work files were safe, but no mater how hard I tried, no matter how many anti-malware programs I used, die.png never left my desktop. I tried searching for it again, but it never showed up. Let this be a warning. Don't just blindly download images off the internet. I decided to open die.png again. Still the same normal dice that I had downloaded for my dice hat design. Oh yeah, about that. We stuck with the purple and white design after the hell I had gone through. That's all for now.
