EarthBound - Unfinished

As you may all know, EarthBound is one of the best retro games of all time. It is one of those RPG games on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It was only 1995, when I have experienced a dark side of the game itself. The game was still new at the time, officially released in Japan about a year before. I had the normal copy of the game, but there's a catch.

Many people at my school were talking about this really cool game called "EarthBound". I don't even think it's healthy to bring that name up a lot. Anyway, lets just go on. I decided to try that game out for myself. I would go to the store and buy it. And then I try it out.

I had some time playing it. I couldn't even bother doing homework because I was too addicted. And then came one of my worst nightmares ever since.

Giygas.

One of the most demonic creatures in video games ever. You must all know it. Beating him is the key to finish. But as I approached the final boss battle, it was too dang creepy. I had to quit somewhere around this. As the battle began, I quickly ran to my SNES and switched it off, and went to play Super Mario World.

Instead of going where I left off there, I was greeted with an extra level. An extra level. That took place in what seems like hell.

Giygas was written all over it. But I saw the words "WHAT A WIMP" at the top of my screen, implying that I was too scared to continue with that battle. And then, I approached, it. Giygas was taking control of Mario's other fellows like Luigi and Peach.

They were chasing after me. As much as I tried to run away, I was killed by Luigi, where it showed a close-up of him with thunder sounds. I turned off my SNES and went to sleep. I don't know how I could've, though, after seeing that.

I had a terrible nightmare. It was all filled with the atmosphere of the Giygas battle. I saw text saying "You were so close.", along with flashing lights and other stuff guaranteed to haunt your dreams for life.

"Complete the level, and we swear we will never threaten you again.", the text said.

I had to overcome my fear. I had to do it. I had to get through the level, but Mom kept telling me to get dressed for school. So I listened to her before the police would arrest me for ditching school "over a silly video game".

I had bad luck during that time. I kept slipping on the floor even if it wasn't wet. Technically, you can see the reflection on the floor. I kept hearing eerie voices like "You were so close.", as said in my dream. As I was going to leave, I was really nervous upon people, because I bumped into a teacher and she said that she's "going to devour me". Her eyes were bloodshot, my entire vision was black and white. I had to finish the game ASAP. Hopefully that would end this all.

So as I arrived home, I quickly ran to my room as I had images that my parents were demons, and that my sisters are a bunch of wild maniacs that would hurt me real good. "This is all a vision", I thought to myself. But then I went to my room to see something written on my wall.

"YOU WERE SO CLOSE."

I had to walk over to my SNES, and finish this all. The screen on my TV was the only color thing that I could see. I had to finish it. Had to complete it. Had to save my life.

And then, I finally beat Giygas. My vision turned back to normal. The writing on my wall wasn't there anymore. The SNES basically shut off by its own. It was steaming hot and I threw it out of the window. And finally. The haunting has ended. I was free from my demonic vision trap. And here I am, in perfectly good vision.

From now on, I will always complete the video game when I'm at its final level.
