Friends: The Ghost Episode

I had accompanied my friend John to a party of a few friends of him, belonged in the house of one to his new colleagues, John had begun to work to a company that makes translations of series, that is to say, that translate the scripts to put the subtitles. Really what John wanted was to score with a girl who was working with him, but really he did not know if she was going to correspond to him. In general I do not like to go very much to parties where I know neither the people nor to the owners of house, but as John had saved me of a few, could not trump now that he was asking me to accompany him to be with the one that would be the mother of his children, according to him. We arrived to the party, it was a mansion and there were a tons of people, they all seemed to know each other, they were very drunk, some of them were dancing, others were drinking and laughing noisy. Since I am rather shy, I put to drink scarcely to come in order to be able to socialize with someone more than my friend John, who got lost between the people a little while of coming with the girl whom he went to see. The time began to pass, and clearly I could not fit in any of the groups. Little by little the people began to leave the party, and there were no news of my friend.

When there were remaining not more than 5 ó 6 persons, the owner of the house approached me and we began to talk. He was a very nice guy, he told me that he had started being employed at the company as one year ago, and there we begin to talk about series, about those that they were translating and such, I said To Him that one of my favorites was "Friends" and just as I said that, people in the room became serious and looked at each other with a strange look. A girl asked me if he had listened about the "ghost" chapter of the series, I answered her that I didn't, and that I had not have idea of what she was talking about. They made clear to me that a chapter had come to them, probably for mistake, which was coming without the script to be translated, neither credit sequence, nor nothing.

The chapter had been directed by Mathhew Perry, the actor who was personifying Chandler Bing (as well as some chapters had been directed by David Schwimmer, who was personifying Ross Geller), by the date in which his problems with drugs had been publicized, which partly can explain what I was about to see. We went to the bedroom of the owner of house, and of a shelf he extracted a vhs that in the label had written down "the one with the frozen cats" with a pencil. I thought that it was a rather unusual name for a chapter of "Friends", but they had said to me that it was a "ghost" chapter, I did not say anything and got accommodated to see it. I do not if they were the beers that I drank or what, but when the chapter began, I noticed that they all were looking between them with a malevolent smile.

The chapter began like any other, there were Rachel and Monica sat in the cafeteria imagining how it would be to have a date with Joey. Nothing out of normal, some graceful jokes, nothing that was calling my attention. After the introduction, it didn't go to the presentation with the song of the Rembrandts, but a black screen appeared, and the title "Chapter 101-b: The one with the frozen cats, directed by Matthew Perry". Those were the only credits that were appearing in the whole chapter. The next thing that appeared, was the recording of the television in which it could be seen the face of a horse and of bottom, a farm. The following scene shows a heap of hens running in row. Nobody payes attention to what's happening on the screen. Joey and Monica converse sat to the table in the department of Monica and Rachel about the curse of "smile.jpg", Monica says to Joey that it is quite a lie for people of weak mind, to what Joey answers that one of his sisters went mad after having received the photo on her e-mail, Monica answers him that they are only urban myths to scare people, Joey shows her a photo of his sister, strangly not any of that they have appeared in the series, rather it seems to be a photo of a woman really mad, with a straitjacket and an expression in her face of real terror, as if indeed she was disturbed by something, while the photo is shown (which lasted for a very long time) laughs of the public were listened, which was doing the scene very creepy. Monica does not pay attention to the picture, and she gets up to turn the tv off.

Phoebe enters the appartment, she looks very depressed and dull. Joey and Monica ask her what's going on, Phoebe sits down in a chair and supports her head in her hands, tells her friends that she has not felt very well since she had to leave the triplets of Alice and his brother, and that it probably must be a post childbirth depression. Monica and Joey try to encourage her, but Phoebe seems not to listen to them, saying that it is terrible not to be able to be with the triplets. For the conversation it seems to be implicit that the triplets died soon after the childbirth and that Phoebe is suffering since she feels guilty. Phoebe says that this has to finish and leaves rapidly the appartment. Monica and Joey seem not to care about the situation, Monica tells Joey that he should support privately the relationship between her and Chandler (this one is the only time that he is named in the whole chapter). The chapter developped normally, with a plot and a subplot. The main plot was on Ross searching a babysitter for Ben and the snarls that were happening knowing the candidatas (that were judged by Monica, Joey and Rachel), nothing that was out of normal, some graceful dialogs, but not to die of laugh. The strange thing was the sub plot. This one was about Phoebe's problem, and it is that there scenes of her alone that were very chilling. In one scene that really creeped me out, she was alone in her appartment, with the hands in the head, walking around at times, like disoriented.

Suddenly a cradle song began to sound, I could not recognized it, but I felt a shiver on my back. The weeping of a few babies was heard, and Phoebe began to go around in circles, crying, until she said something like "this has to stops" and she went out running. The song and the weepings continued for awhile, the scene ended with pre recorded laughs. Later Phoebe was going to look for Ben to his school, he looked really scared by the situation, as if it was out of the script or something. Phoebe took him to an amusement park, the situation was similar to the scene of Fatal Attraction, and as a parody it was very well done, but the reaction of the actor who was personifying Ben made everything very strange. Finally Phoebe was sorry of what she had done and retured Ben to Carol and Susan, as if nothing had happened. Phoebe then went to an animal shelter and he took a small cat in his arms in a very maternal way.

Meanwhile, the rest of the friends realized that none of the babysitters were going to be so good as Phoebe, for what they decide to go lookong for her. When they arrived to her house, Phoebe had a very strange face, acting more incoherent than often. They all ask her how is she doing, as Phoebe acts as if her friends were not there. Joey opens the refrigerator looking for a beer, and finds the dead cats in bags, frozen. They all look at Phoebe with a horror expression on their faces (as if indeed they had not known what was inside the refrigerator) and Phoebe begins to laugh madly, a few recorded laughs are heard and then, fade to black. The nest scene showed everyone but Chandler and Phoebe at the cafeteria, Monica tries to scare Joey making him see a photo of Smile.jpg, but Joey does not pay attention to it and asks her if she really wants to be scared, the he shows her a photo of Phoebe sat in a bed with a straitjacket and looking at the chamber with an expression of tremendous disturbance, there is a long laugh and the chapter ends.

As soon as it ended, I looked at everybody, almost unbelieving what I had seen. I really could not say anything to them. In fact, I got up and went to my house, trying to sleep, but clearly, the look of Phoebe and of Joey's sister chased me the whole night. The following day I called my friend asking him how he was doing, and he said to me that everything was fine and that he was very in love with the girl. I asked him if he knew something about the chapter, he said to me that probably it was a test, a chapter that had slipped and that would never go out to the air. In the following weeks, my friend quote the company, married the girl, and moved to another city. I've had few to none news from him. And of those who were his colleagues, nothing, as if they had never existed. And clearly, whenever I comment to someone about this chapter, they look at me with face of " help yourself ". And occasionally, Phoebe's look accompanies me just before falling asleep.
