Glitch Pokémon Party

I was playing my Pokémon Blue when I was in my preteen years. I knew about the Missingno. glitch, and how capturing it could damage my save file. That's why I was careful to never do so. I only used the glitch to make an infinite number of rare candies, and nothing more.

Overall, I was content with my file. My Pokémon team was strong, I beat the Elite Four about ten times, and I was really close to having all 151 Pokemon in the Pokédex, which was a rather daunting task when you're just a kid. One day, I decided to make room in my Pokémon party, but the PC box I chose was full.

To my surprise, when I was skimming over the other boxes, boxes 5, 6, and 8 appeared to have Pokémon in it. Which was strange, as I was unable to recall ever putting a Pokémon in either of those boxes. Regardless, I changed to box 5 and deposited all Pokémon from my team. I withdrew the three Pokémon that were in there, and found out that they were glitched Pokémon. I switched to box 6 and withdrew three more Pokémon, which were also glitched.

My curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to take a closer look at them. They were just what I thought they would be; messed up. But why? I didn't catch any glitched Pokémon. The first Pokémon was a messed up Chansey. There was nothing terribly unusual about it; just a few pixels that had been moved around. The second, to my surprise, was a messed up Professor OAK! There were some strange markings on his clothes and some parts of his face were missing, as if those features had never been there at all. Feeling anxious, I checked the third Pokémon.

It looked a lot like Missingno.'s sprite, but the only difference was that the format was larger. I switched to the fourth and it was a messed up Blaine. All of his stats were valued at a mere 6, and his health was at 0. Total health. It was as if this Pokémon would remain forever fainted. Anxiety turned into dread and fear as I continued making the unknown Pokémon known. The fifth was another messed up Missingno., but his stats were the exact opposite of "Blaine's"; 0 for every stat, and 6 for max health. So I decided to switch to the last one.

I'll never forget what happened next. The sixth Pokémon... I can't even begin to describe how terrible it was to see. Its sprite was of a dark picture with some red demonic markings in the middle. The thing's cry resembled a blood-chilling scream, as if it was being tortured. The cry was held constant, not once breaking pitch or tone. Tears of terror swelled in my eyes as fear held me in a death grip.

I tried to exit the screen, but after closing the party and the menu, the "scream" continued. I hastily shut off the game boy to get a hold on reality. Thankfully the scream had stopped. It took a while to regain myself before I mustered up the courage to turn the game boy back on. To my surprise, the game had decided to save at the point where I had just finished withdrawing the glitched Pokémon.

I couldn't use the storage anymore. Every time I tried to swap out a glitched Pokémon for one of my own, it simply showed up in the party again. I tried to exit the storage but it wouldn't let me. It locked me in. After resetting the Game Boy once more, the game told me that the data file was corrupted. Royally pissed off, I shut the game off and stopped playing.

Though the game wasn't being played anymore, I started to have strange dreams. For the entire week, I remember dreaming about those glitched Pokémon, stalking me, staring at me. I remember with vivid detail the screams of the last Pokémon in my head. Throughout the entire dream, I could hear the agonizing scream in the background, shrieking as if it was right up against my ear. And for the entire week after this event I woke up frightened, sweat staining my pajamas. To this day, I have no idea what Pokémon were in box 8.

I don't ever want to find out.
