HeartGold: Game Over

So I've been reading about Creepypastas for a while now, and they really entertain me. Especially the Pokémon Creepypastas. The idea of having something evil lurking in one of your childhood memories is a chilling thought. I've always wanted to get a "lost cartridge," but after several buys on eBay (to buy back some of the older ones) I got only what I asked for: a normal game.

I really wanted to get my hands on a hacked Pokémon game, but the only ones I found were crappy versions of the original (some dumb made up Pokémon, messed up stats, butchered dialogue, etc.), so I decided to take matters into my own hands.

One of my old childhood friends was quite the hacker. He actually made a couple hacks of some GB color games. I invited him over, explained and showed him some Creepypasta, and told him about my desire to have a genuine hacked Pokémon game. He told me he'd work on it.

After about a month, he came over my house. I greeted him and invited him to come inside. As he entered my house, he took out a Heartgold cartridge. "I did it. Here's your hacked game." I took it and thanked him. "Wow, thanks man."

"No problem. Just dropped by to give you the game." I looked up, grinning. "What'd you do to it?"

"I don't wanna ruin anything. I tried to make it one of those obscure, creepy, things. See for yourself. Later." I waved goodbye as he exited my house and made his way back to his car.

I walked upstairs to my bedroom, ready to start playing. I finally had a hacked Pokémon game! As I started, everything seemed to be normal. In fact, during the next few days I played, I still found nothing wrong. I thought of calling my friend, but I decided not too. Maybe the "hack" came into play later. I cleared the Elite Four and continued into Kanto. I got all the badges and beat Red. Still normal. That would all change soon.

I was exploring Mt Silver, with my Pokémon all badly beaten. I was high up, with no more potions or escape ropes. Most of my Pokémon were fainted, with only one left, Parasect, with only only 4 HP left. I ran from several wild Pokémon battles, until I was on the lower mountainside. I encountered an Onix. I selected "Run", but this time I failed. Onix used Iron Tail! Parasect fainted. "Oh well..." I sighed. Gold is out of usable Pokémon! The trainer slid into battle. ".....! No! Parasect!" ...What was this? The...the hack! I guess I never actually lost a fight until now. I watched to see what happened next. The screen faded to black. After a few seconds, the sound the game made after you save your progress sounded. After a few more minutes, I got bored of waiting and turned the game off, then back on. After reaching the main menu, I selected "Continue." Boy, was I in for a surprise.

I was in the House of Memories, my character standing in front of the grave at the top left of the room. My Pokémon wasn't out walking with me. I pressed A.

"In loving memory of Gold's Pokemon: Typhlosion, Beedrill, Tyranitar, Graveler, Pidgeot, and Parasect. Never forgotten."

Gold turned around.

".....I'll see you all again some day....."

I checked the menu. My party was completely empty. I no longer had a Pokedex. My trainer's profile was altered. Under "Adventure started," there was a new stat: "Adventure ended." The date was today. I wondered what would happen next. I walked over and talked to Mr. Fuji. "Hello, Gold...still here? You have my condolences...but...your mother is very worried. You should go see her." I left the House of Memories and left Lavender Town.

No Pokémon or trainers bothered me on my journey to New Bark Town. No matter how much I walked in tall grass or walked through caves, no wild Pokémon attacked me. After boarding the S.S. Anne and returning to Johto, I walked back to New Bark Town. I walked into my home. My mom turned and walked over to me as soon as I entered the house. "Oh...Gold! Thank God you're okay! I was so worried!"

"I was...my Pokemon-"

"It's going to be okay, Gold...look...sometimes...you have to come home, and leave the adventure to the next generation..." The screen faded to black. Once again, I couldn't leave this black screen, but the "Game saved" sound was never heard. I turned it off, and back on. When I got to the menu "Continue" was gone. The only other option was "New game."
