Her.exe

It was a normal day, just like any other. I was browsing the internet for a crack for a game I had pirated. Searching, I came across a Japanese website, which I had to use a page translator to read. It was a very dull website, white background with black Times New Roman font.

The translator must have been terrible because the crack descriptions rarely made any sense. I had typed the name of the game I had wanted to crack into the search bar, and it directed me to a very empty page, with nothing but a link that said "craCk". Normally, I wouldn't download from such a shady website, but I couldn't find a decent crack anywhere and I was desperate.

When I downloaded it, there was a folder on my desktop, once again, named "craCk". When I opened it, there was 2 files. One was a .txt file and one was a .exe file. I first wanted to read the .txt file, but once again, it had to be translated. I was very shocked at what it translated to. "helpmehelpmehelpmehelpmehelpme" and so on. I was very reluctant to start the .exe file but I figured if it was anything bad, AVG would help.

I clicked on the file. her.exe is what it was called. At this point, it wasn't so much about the game crack as it was to see what was going on with the .txt file. As soon as I clicked the file, my computer shut down. After I started it back up, there was 4 new files on my desktop.

There was go.txt, her.wmv, her.exe and her.jpg. I started to worry. go.txt was just the same thing as the first .txt file I opened. I clicked on her.wmv. Windows Media Player opened and it showed a first person view of someone walking in the woods at night, they started running at a certain point, panting heavily.

He came across some train tracks and started running on them. Keep in mind it had to have been about 1:00 AM, so it was very dark. The camera went completely black for a few seconds, but you could still hear the person running.

The person had turned on some sort of flashlight. The person then stopped running and went dead silent. The camera was looking down at his feet, and he stayed still, yet I could still hear footsteps and ruffling of gravel. The camera slowly pointed upwards and what I saw still haunts me to this day. It was a woman. Her skin was completely grey, she was in an old dress and holding a long stick.

Her face was black and her eyes had a yellow glow to them. She took a few slow steps forward and the camera dropped, going black. After about 15 seconds, all you can hear is footsteps inching towards the camera. It's then picked up, pointing at a person laying dead on the ground.

The camera is then pointed upwards at the night sky, and the video ended. I was terrified at this point and didn't even want to open the image file. But I did, and it was a still frame of the woman. I couldn't sleep that night, and it took a few years of therapy to help me get over this.
