Hypno Used Nightmare

Let me first say, that I just love Pokémon. Ever since I was introduced to it when I was young, I've been hooked on playing the famous series. But, I usually like to stick with the older 1st-3rd gen Pokémon because I didn't like the newer ones. But, I digress. Anyways, one of my favorite types of Pokémon is Psychic-type. I've always loved Kadabra, Mr. Mime, Jynx and every other psychic Pokémon out there. I don't know why I loved them, they're just so cool, you know? Powerful moves, battle changing attacks and strategies made them worth while to have. One Pokémon in particular spiked my interest: and that was Hypno. Hypno was a personal favorite of mine. The evolved form of Drowzee; he always hypnotizing the foes and destroying them while they were asleep. That was the best thing to do. In fact, he was my most loved Pokémon! With an astounding level of 87, my Hypno dominated everything that came out of a Pokeball and more. However, there was a creepy back story that stuck with Hypno. Sure, other Pokémon like Mew, MewTwo and Deoxy's had their stories, but Hypno's was... Well, kind of frightening.

On Hypno's Pokedex info, it states that he's just a Pokémon who likes to hypnotize and attack with the move 'Confusion'. But the next bit of info is where his back story begins: "There was once an incident where Hypno hypnotized and led a child into a cave."

At first, I thought nothing much of it. Just some small tale that probably led to nowhere, you know? However, after playing through Fire Red, I realized, that the story was true! During my time on the islands (the Sevii Islands, for the those who don't know), the Game Corner store owner told me that her daughter, Lostelle, hadn't come to bring him lunch. He's obviously worried and has asked you to go find her. After searching around, you find that she's on Three Island, picking berries in Berry Forest for her dad's lunch. You continue to your quest into Berry Forest; defeating the bikers in the small town, battling a few trainers and arriving at the forest. After a few minutes of maneuvering, what seems like a maze, you come upon Lostelle, sitting in a small orchid. You go up and talk to her and she's crying. She tells you that a scary Pokémon had been scaring her the entire time. A few seconds after, she screams and points to the direction of the cry of a Pokémon: Hypno.

I mean, it's not a cave, but he did have Lostelle practically in his grasp. But, I'm sure you get the point. Anyways, that's Hypno! Don't get me wrong, I love him to death, but sometimes, I get reminded of what he really is and... It just gives me chills.

I was getting my game on by playing, none other, Pokémon. I was trying to level up my Hypno a couple of more levels to get to 90 as a milestone. Then, I'd realized it was a school night and it was already 12:30. I frowned at the fact that I had to get some sleep and finish this last battle before heading to bed. You'd be surprised how boring and how fast a battle can be sometimes when your Pokémon are above level 60. With the battle finished, I saved and turned my game off and grumpily went to bed. It's not the fact that I can play everyday, it's the fact that I had lost track of time and thought it was Friday.

I guess sleep had the better of me because when I jumped into bed, I immediately fell asleep. I started to dream and I was a Pokémon trainer. I was in the Pokémon universe, with my select Pokémon. In my dream, I had the urge to catch the Hypno in Berry Forest because I had always killed it. Plus, who knows, that Hypno may have Nightmare, a move that I've longed to have at my disposal. So, walking through the decently lit forest, I saw a little girl, crying in a circle of flowers. I walked forward a few steps and called out a name, "Lostelle?"

She turned around and a wave of joy hit her face as she ran towards me with arms open. "Oh, goodness, you're here! There's a monster in the trees that's been scaring me!"

I heard rustling to my left, there was a distinct shape in the shadows, but I couldn't make out what it was. Lostelle screamed in horror, "There it is!!!" She pointed to the direction of the figure. A Pokémon, about the size of a large human, came roaming out of the trees. He opened his mouth, allowing a Pokémon's cry escape it's mouth with a creepy, old sounding, "Hypno!" I pushed Lostelle back behind me and grabbed an empty Pokeball from my bag. It stepped further towards me and I hurled the Pokeball at the thing. The ball opened and Hypno was now trapped inside the small prison, trying to break out. The ball moved for a good 4 seconds before it stopped. I let out a relieved sigh and picked the ball up, placing it on my belt. I turned to Lostelle, "Let's go home."

I had gone back to Two Island and returned Lostelle to her dad and he thanked me. I got on the boat I rode on and sailed back to Kanto. I got off the boat and thanked the captain. I was going back to my house to rest, when Gary was standing next to the guard house. I was quite surprised to find him lurking around.

"Hey, bro!" He called, waving at me.

"Oh, hey Gare! What are you doing here? I thought you were supposed to be working on your Pokedex and becoming the 'better' trainer?"

"What, I can't take a break? C'mon, man!" He playfully shoved me, "Hey, you want to have a battle? You know, just for fun?"

I hadn't really healed my Pokémon, but I knew I could probably take him on, anyways. "Gary, you know I always kick your butt every time you challenge me."

"Wha... No! I've been going easy on ya! C'mon, I've got something that'll rock your world!" He grabbed a Pokeball from his belt and held it in his hand. "Whaddya say?"

"Alright. You're on!"

These battles with Gary were always so easy. My Raichu alone, took out 3 of his Pokémon. I could see he was starting to get desperate. His next Pokémon was the one he'd chosen at Prof. Oak's lab; his Blastoise. Skillfully, my Raichu Thunderbolt'd his beloved water Pokémon. It fell to the ground with an amusing crash. Gary recalled his Blastoise and sent out a Nidoking. I recalled my Raichu and sent my Kadabra to take him out with ease. Kadabra used 'Reflect' to get a base defense down, when Gary's Nidoking started to charge my Kadabra. With great speed and force, my Kadabra went flying a couple of feet. With the trauma I'd just seen, it was hard to believe that Kadabra can just get up from that. Recovering his stance, Kadabra looked at Gary's Nidoking with great concentration. A great purple-pink-red glow surrounded Nidoking. A pained groan from Nidoking announced that it had fainted to Kadabra's 'Psychic'. Gary was dumbfounded.

Gary recalled his Nidoking, "I swear, you cheat."

"Not cheating, Gare, just a lot of training." I stood there, trying to look all fancy.

Then, Gary's face changed. Not physically, but emotionally. There was a look to his face that was quite devious, almost evil looking. "Then, I suppose you don't think you're good enough to face my last Pokemon, then?" His voice was so raspy, almost demonic. He threw a Pokeball out on the ground and out popped a Hypno.

"Hm... So Gary finally got the sense of getting an actual psychic Pokemon, eh?" I thought to myself. "So be it."

I recalled my Kadabra and placed his ball on my belt. I grabbed my Charizard Pokeball and held it out in my hand. As I torqued my arm back to throw the Pokeball, there was a text box in front of me, one from the game. It was odd, but then again, it was a dream. The text box said nothing at first, but soon, pixelated words started to type themselves into the box. They read, "Hypno used Dream Eater!" Hypno started to move his hands in a way that would make a nauseous person puke. Soon, the world I was in started to fade, dissolving and getting sucked into Hypno's open mouth. Soon enough, it was just me in a white space with Hypno standing in front of me. He stopped moving his hands and the white text box appeared once more, but right in my face this time. It read: "Hypno used Nightmare!" Nightmare was frighteningly written in blood. The text box disappeared and in front of my face was Hypno. He had a terrible blank stare that defined psychotic. Bleeding from his eyes, he started to grow a grin that would make your skin crawl. Still grinning, he held up his pendulum and started to wave it. In a voice that would still water, he spoke, "Hypno used NIGHTMARE!" And began to laugh horribly. His entire body melted away; skin falling off and bleeding profusely. When it reached the bone, his smile still stayed and was blown into dust into my face, changing the atmosphere completely.

The dust cleared and I was back in the forest where I had found Lostelle, only this time, everything was complete darkness. The only light was a typical sunshine shining down on a small clearing. In the clearing, was Lostelle, hunched over. I began a slow process of walking over to her. I felt choked, short of breath, as I was trying to call her name. The only thing that came out was a whispered, "Lostelle?" and some squeaks as if my throat was dry. Coming closer, I could hear a soft sobbing coming from Lostelle. I was now behind her and the sobbing was as loud as it was going to get. I reached out to touch her shoulder and called her name out once more, "Lostelle?" The sobbing stopped and she looked up, still facing forward. With a loud cracking, she turned her head to me. Her eyes were gone but in place, was 2 red pupils that were dialated to the size of dimes and her face was bloody. She called my name in an innocent voice, "Timmy?" I wanted to scream, but nothing came out, only gasps for air. A rustling, like in the beginning of my dream, came from behind. I turned behind me and saw white eyes, coldly looking into my soul. A loud crack came from Lostelle. When I turned to her, she'd snapped her neck to where her face was upside down. In a loud, bloodcurdling voice, she screamed, "RIGHT BEHIND YOU!!!" I turned once more to find Hypno in my face, grinning creepily. He held up his pendulum once more and screamed, "Hypno used NIGHTMARE!" He cackled and the world around me started to melt once more as he faded away into the world.

The next place I appeared was Two Island. However, the place was so desolate, I mean, it was like a bomb had hit the place. Black grass and a darkened sky, trickles of blood ran down some of the buildings, I could even see a few bodies floating in the water behind me. There was an invisible barrier between me and the grass, the only thing that wasn't blocked was the medieval stone bricks of a trail. It wasn't scary, but it was quite astounding to see such a happy place go to hell. The trail I was walking was leading me to the Game Corner where I'd taken Lostelle back to her dad. I opened the door to another horror: the lights were on, like they were originally, but the place was riddled with bodies. The father's co-worker that was behind the desk was gurgling a constant flow of blood from his mouth with a knife in his chest. There was a pounding sound that was coming from the back room. The co-worker blankly glared at me. He pointed to the door leading to the back room. Walking and avoiding the bodies, he kept staring at me. I opened the door to find the father beating something with an axe and chomping nosily on it. There was some animalistic noise within his horrid eating, a hunger that flowed through his body. I walked over to get a look at what he was chopping and I was appalled. He was grabbing fainted Pokémon and was repeatedly hitting them with his axe, turning them into a bloody mush that he ate for himself.

He looked up at me with a blood-ridden mouth. His eyes only told me that he was hungry, "TIMMY." He spoke in a raspy tone, "I'M HUNGRY. THEY DON'T FILL. I NEED FOOD. LOSTELLE..." It made sense: I didn't grab Lostelle when I was in the forest, and now, he was killing Pokémon for his own needs. "FOOD, TIMMY. I NEED IT!" He grabbed me by the arms and stuck his teeth into my neck.

"AHHHH!! GET OFF ME!!" I woke up in pain, holding my neck. I was hot, I was sweaty... I was scared. What the hell was that? What kind of sick thing was I in?! It didn't matter now, I was out of it and back in reality. I looked around my room, seeing an outline of all my stuff. I looked over to my clock and it was only 2:08 in the morning. I wanted to turn the TV on, but I didn't want to watch TV, not with all this... demented stuff in my head. So, I just sat there in the dark and almost brought myself to tears. I brought my legs over the side of my bed to lean on my knees and just place my head on my hands and think hard about what I had just experienced.

Then, from behind me, a voice. The voice was a crackly one, the voice of an old man. The tone was a high and psychotic one, the kind of tone a mental patient would have had. In the notes of 'Hush Little Baby', the voice spoke in my ear:

"Hush, little Timmy, don't scream a thing,

'Hypno's right behind you; I'm the nightmare king."
