Mario's Haunt

I was bored one day listening to Some Ordinary Gamers read off once more another creepypasta. After what seemed to be the 20th creepypasta and 4 hours I felt an extreme surge of Nostalgia pulse through my body and got the urge to search for Super Mario 64 on eBay. After searching through hundreds of perfectly fine cartridges I ran across a ratty looking cartridge missing its label with a Sigil of Baphomet on it and the words "Dead" scribbled in red paint for 10 bucks and I ordered it without hesitation.

After what seemed to be years I finally heard the loud sound of the UPS truck rumbling outside my bedroom window one evening so I darted for the front door and took the package and darted for my room at what seemed to be the speed of light and plugged the eerie cartridge into my N64. The Super Mario 64 logo came up fine and Mario's head popped up in the usual way. At this time chill bumps shivered down my spine as the nostalgia hit me like 10 pounds of wet cement. I figured what better way to enjoy this than with a good coke and nice snack? So I went to fetch myself a snack and when I came back I couldn't believe what I saw.

The background had turned black and Mario's head had big black eyes with what appeared to be realistic tears of blood running down his face and he looked... he looked so upset as his usual smile was replaced with a half open droopy frowning mouth and he just stared at me as if he was looking into my very soul. A real distorted slowed version of the merry-go-round music was playing.

As I watched his face began to twist and distort into a spiral then it snapped back to the creepy frown. At the time I thought it was just a glitch, after all it was a ratty looking cartridge so I proceeded to press the start button. Surprisingly this screen, the file select screen, was perfectly fine except for when I selected a file it was the sound of Mario screaming, like when you normally delete a file.

The game started with the usual message from Toadstool Peach and the game proceeded on as normal with Lakitu circling the Castle grounds. When Mario jumped out of the pipe I headed for the Castle with a minor glitch of his body off and on and as I was approaching the bridge Mario fell through the ground and the death screen popped up with Bowser's evil laugh.

I remembered this happening on occasion so it didn't startle me... that is until Mario reappeared. The screen came back and Mario was falling from the sky, which was now red with black clouds. He fell all the way too the ground but surprisingly didn't die. He landed where he usually starts. The level was dark and a red glow shined from behind the mountains around the border of the level... Was this fire? and the water was blood red.

I brought Mario to first person view and seen that peaches picture on the Castle was replaced with an image of what appeared to be Satan in his usual Goat look. I slowly proceeded forward being cautious as this environment made it seem like something could pop out at any time. As I approached the Bridge once more Lakitu showed up and the message appeared:

"You have met with a terrible fate haven't you?"

What? I thought to myself as I remembered that message was from Majora's Mask. I hesitantly pressed the A button and when I did Mario flew back as if he was hit with an invisible force and died.

Once again Bowser's evil laugh played as the outline of his face closed in. This time Mario appeared and he was in a black room and the endless stairs song began to play at first real quiet and progressively got louder and I felt like I was being chased by something and that it was closing in fast. So I began running forward for what seemed like forever as I did I heard the faint sound of Boo's in the background, the music was getting so loud now my speakers were crackling as if they're about to blow. After a while I came upon a painting in the distance, barely visible in the dark room.

As I got closer I realized it was Lethal Lava Land illuminated by its own glow so I jumped into the painting. The screen went black and static blasted through my speakers (Like Nintendo Games do when they freeze) and it froze. I pressed Reset on the Nintendo 64 and instead of the usual Super Mario 64 Logo It simply came up and said:

"A revolution is upon us; thus your fate has been determined." and Mario's face popped up as usual and the game played like normal ever since.

Although that message has haunted me ever since... A revolution is upon us; Thus your fate has been determined... What could it mean?
