My New Computer

2009

At three o'clock I got home from school. I had just received a new computer a few days ago and I hadn’t been able to get on it yet. I threw my stuff on the floor and headed up the stairs to my room. I flipped the light switch on and booted up the laptop. Around five, I got hungry and went downstairs to the kitchen. I went to the refrigerator and found some leftover mac and cheese and walked over to the microwave only to find a note on it saying, "Let it begin."

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” I thought. “Probably just another stupid trick my brothers are playing on me.” I warmed the mac and cheese up and brought it upstairs.

Upstairs, I found another note saying, "I'll see you tonight." I didn't have time for this. I walked into my brothers rooms and saw nobody was there. I looked literally everywhere in the house. Nobody was home except me. That's what I thought at least.

I was beginning to panic. I heard a shattering sound coming from upstairs. I didn't know what it could be. I grabbed a knife and slowly walked up the stairs. With the knife ready, as quietly as possible, I walked into the room. The cat had accidentally pushed a vase off the nightstand, causing it to shatter. I sighed with relief and went to my room.

My mom arrived home shortly after, along with my brothers. I told her what had happened. She told me to stop fooling around and that I should be ashamed for lying to her. I sighed, knowing this was what she thought, there was no way of changing that, and it was a waste of time to even try. I changed the subject and asked what was for dinner. “Hamburgers and Hotdogs tonight honey,” she said.

“Yes! That’s my favorite!” I replied. She gave me a hug, and told me to go to the living room with my brothers and watch TV while she made dinner.

After dinner, I took a shower and went to bed. I awoke from a nightmare I had around two in the morning. When I opened my eyes, I froze. Standing by my door was a person. He was just... staring at me... grinning like an insane person. “This isn't real, This isn't real, This isn't real,” I thought to myself. The figure slowly raised his hand, pointed at me, and started laughing hysterically.

I woke up, hunched over and drooling on my computer desk. I looked over at the clock, 4:30.

"It was just a dream, thank God," I thought. I turned on my laptop once more. However, for some reason, it was acting very strange. On boot up, the screen flashed every five seconds with a whole bunch of words. The words seemed to be in a code of some sort.

Once it finally booted, I logged into my computer. Every once in a while, it would freeze. After about ten minutes of this, it finally stopped. Everything seemed normal for a small period of time, then the freezing came back. This continued for about an hour. I finally gave up on my computer. I went over to the start menu and was about to hit the shutdown button, when the screen started to glitch once more. However, this time it wasn't flashing codes, it started flashing single frames of that figure... each frame zooming closer and closer to its face... I panicked and slammed my laptop shut.

I sold the laptop the day after that happened. I bought a new one a month or two later. When I booted it up, there no files on it, except for a folder entitled: “It was real, I'm real too, and you better believe it.”

I didn't know what to do at this point. I thought I got rid of whatever was stalking me. I obviously was wrong. I tried contacting authorities about it, and when that didn't work, I tried contacting my dad for help. All I got was a prerecorded voice saying, “We're sorry, you have reached a number that has been disconnected or is no longer in service. If you feel that you have reached this recording in error, please check your number and try again.”

Something was terribly wrong. Why would the police disconnect their number? And dad.. Dad would've let us know about it. He'd never do that. Nothing about it seemed right, whatsoever. Yet, whenever my mom or my brothers contacted somebody, it never gave them that message. Not once.

I decided to do some investigating on my computer. I searched my computer and found nothing except the folder. I double clicked the folder on the desktop and found a file in it called, "number.txt". I opened it and read the following:

So, I'm assuming you're the one person I'm hunting. If you aren't, throw this laptop away now and forget this ever happened, or else. If you are in fact the one, be glad I haven't killed you already. You've probably noticed some strange things happening. Don't worry, it'll all be over soon. All you need to do is follow a few simple instructions. Here is the rule: do what I say and exactly that or sacrifice something dearest to you. Now here's what I want you to do:

Go to the phone.

Dial 1-666-666-6660

Remember, I'll always be watching, so do as I say, or else.”

I didn't want to call that number. I wanted it all to end and live a normal life, free of worries, like I used to. But somehow I knew that it would never be the same. I decided to finally dial the number. After a long period of ringing, the man finally picked up.

“He-Hello? Who is this, and what do you want with me? Please, I'll do anythi-”

“--You know how vampires savor the taste of blood?” he asked abruptly.

“Uh... Ye-yeah I gue--.”

“--Well, it's kinda the same with me... Except, I don't really savor blood... I savior the pain of other people. The pleasure of it is indescribable. It feels so fucking good. So fucking good...

The man started laughing and hung up. I slowly put the phone down and headed up to my room. On my door, I found one last note saying, "Wait." I did exactly that.

2010

It's been almost a year since I've seen any signs of the man. To this day, I still wonder why the man didn't do any physical harm to me. I'm not sure what to do, even at this point. I just wish that you didn't have to get this computer. Why couldn't you've just bought another one? Why did it have to be this one?! Well... Your choice I guess.

Thank you for choosing me.
