Nostalgia Critic - The Last Review

Many people will have heard of the popular internet comedy-review series, the Nostalgia Critic - in which the titular "Critic" gives tongue-in-cheek movie reviews often littered with his own unique brand of comedy which some love and some hate. His speciality is reviewing movies that he deems as "terrible" in order to lampoon what he sees as flaws in their storytelling and so forth...

Now I have always been a fan of the Nostalgia Critic, having regularly watched what I believed were all the episodes currently in existence - that was until I found myself browsing YouTube and stumbled across "The Last Review".

The preview image was just a black box and the run-time was exactly 00.00 - suggesting there was absolutely nothing there.

Yet, like a fool, I clicked on it, fully expecting another obnoxious "This Video Has Been Removed" error or similar - to my surprise what happened was akin to the old Windows "Blue Screen Of Death".

My computer just froze and I found myself desperately typing on my keyboard to get it to work. After a few failed attempts, I finally got my computer working again and quickly turned YouTube off as I performed a virus check, not wanting to risk infecting my computer any more than I already had.

It was then I noted something odd on my desktop, a small movie file labelled "NC:LR" - I tried to delete the file, thinking it was a virus, but as soon as I did so, the file started playing: opening a window.

The video began with an inverted image of the Critic as he said his usual opening line of "Hi, I'm the Nostalgia Critic, I remember it so you don't have to!".

Then things completely changed as images of maggots filled the screen, the loud sound of buzzing flies and what appeared to be distorted laughter assaulted my ears as I tried to close the file, to no avail.

The image soon returned to the Nostalgia Critic doing his famous "Scary Slow Mo" gimmick - only this time his face continually jerked back and forth as images flashed on and off the screen showing what appeared to be a man with a burlap sack over his head: staring at the camera.

After this, yet more nonsensical events were played in rapid succession ranging from the disturbing to the outright terrifying - the scenes being far too graphic and obscene to have been allowed in a regular Nostalgia Critic episode... in fact, many of the scenes were heavily suggestive of criminal activity, whether staged or real.

After about three minutes of this, the video stopped playing and I received a pop-up message:

"Are you sure you wish to delete this file?"

I clicked "Yes" rather quickly only for an error message to scroll up:

"file can not be deleted"

I started to panic a little now; there was no way I was keeping that file on my computer. I tried several times to delete it but time and time again all I received was an error message.

To this day I have that damn file sitting on my desktop, untouched for months and likely to stay that way for a very long time...

If you should ever come across "The Last Review" like I did, please do not click on it, trust me when I say it's not worth it... you WILL live to regret it...
