Origins of Trollpasta

I'm a merchant, hailing from a village, they call me by many names, depending on the location.

So here I am going, by the road, to the nearby capital city to sell my goods. My mule is carrying them behind me, and I'm gently puling it with a rope.

I reach a bridge and inhuman noises echo below it, causing my mule to break free of my casual grip and run away over it. Luckily most of the goods fell off when it jumped.

I was about to cross the bridge, but it came to me that it might have been trolls making those noises, and trolls don't like it when yo cross their bridges without paying a toll, not one bit.

I know my way around them though, so I calmly climb down and check under the bridge, and indeed, there's three trolls there, eating some strange worm-like substance. I toss them a shiny coin, made to look like a priceless antique but quite worthless really, one of the trolls grabs it and inspects it, then smiles at me and beckons for me to join them.

Trolls have two-sided personalities, you know - treat them respectfully and they act benign and friendly, disrespect them and you might find yourself in pieces.

With this in mind, I take a seat and look around a bit. I have some casual conversation with the three, not very interesting, since trolls aren't that bright. I was stunned though, when they offered me some of what they were eating.

It was a slimy, ochre mass, it looked like a tangled mass of tentacles, I almost gagged at the spot, but my curiosity kicked in, so I took the smallest I could from the meal, and tasted it.

Low and behold, it was glorious, it seemed to melt in my mouth, and it wasn't really slimy at all, just deliciously moist and filling. I ate the whole ration and stood up, took a few steps away and then faced back.

I said outright that it was the best meal I've ever had, and asked if I could learn how to prepare it myself. The trolls took another look at the coin and motioned me to come closer. One of the trolls showed me exactly what was used for the dish, and how. I said my goodbye and departed to the city.

There, I sold my goods and opened a bakery, and at first it wasn't very popular, but eventually enough people tried the unique dish I was offering.

I grew rich quickly, and passed on the Trolls' secret recipe to my children and grandchildren, and eventually they gave it away to the world.

Today, I sleep peacefully knowing the entire world is enjoying trollpasta.
