Pokémon Dark Red
Ok I'm just going to get something straight, I LOVE the old Pokemon games, especially the generation one games. But something happened this one day that I will never forget, that makes me get chills down my spine every time someone says "Pokemon". It was the day of my graduation from college, I was so happy about it. My best friend, Alex, who was at my same campus had given me a Gameboy color as a graduation gift. I suddenly remembered the days of my childhood playing Pokemon red.
It was my favorite game of all time and I never seemed to grow out of it. Though, I had given it to my younger brother when I moved out so he could experience it for himself. I was sitting on my couch watching TV when, I felt something hard below my cushion. I was very suprised to see it because I was sure that I had given it to my brother. It was almost as if the cartridge were, alive.
The label was torn off and the cart said "Pokemon Dark Red". I was very confused why it said that but I didn't care. As I started up the game, the intro was very disturbing. Instead of Gengar and Nidorino fighting, there was Pikachu eating up a bloody mangled corpses.
I was frightened and tried to turn off the game boy but the screen just said, error the game boy cannot be turned off at this time. When the screen popped back to the main menu, the main character had a very large scratch in his chest and his heart was outside his body. There was a note beside him saying "He's coming for you".
Once again I tried to turn off the game boy but it instead said "NO ESCAPE". I kept pressing random buttons, but nothing worked. The game started by itself and had one file named with a character's name of "IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT". I was confused because the name of the character could not be that long. I wanted to delete the file and start up my own game, but the game entered the file on it's own.
What I saw when the game file started up, scared me for the rest of my life.
The game entered in Lavender town, which was where pokemon would be buried if they perished. The sky was all red and blood was everywhere. There was a Pikachu with a mouth full of blood and said in a realistic voice "Come with me". I tried to escape from Pikachu when the game started controlling my character. My character kept coming closer to Pikachu when I suddenly heard a very loud scream from my game boy color and the screen cut to black. When the game screen turned back, Pikachu was running around with a very happy smile on his face while eating corpses. Then Pikachu said "My cravings are not yet fed."
Then Pikachu held up a picture of me and my friend.
I didn't know why Pikachu knew what I looked like and how the game boy could handle that detail. For some reason, Derek was very mangled and had his head twisted and my picture was normal. Pikachu then said "My cravings are not yet fulfilled, look at what I did to your best friend. Make that mistake again, and your fate will be the same as your friend's."
I yanked the cartridge out of the game boy color and smashed it with a hammer. I was frightened and wondered what I had done wrong and why Game freak would put such a gory thing in a pokemon game.
I went over to my friend's house to talk to him about this experience, i opened the door and all I saw was Alex lying down dead with a note on his shirt saying" you're next".
