Pokemon Blood Red Edition
Not to be confused with Pokemon Blood Red, which is a different story.
Finally, I finally found it. A genuine copy of Pokémon Fire Red. I have been searching for one for awhile now. As soon as I got home, I quickly dug out my red Game Boy SP and shoved the game in. I always wanted to play Fire Red, because for my birthday, my cousins got me the game's copy, Pokémon Leaf Green. But the game I wanted was Fire Red. Both games are identical, both in game play and in storyline, but I always got jealous when I saw my sister playing her copy of Fire Red.
Anyway, I flipped the switch and the Game Boy 'pinged' to life. A shiver went down my spine as I heard the familiar jingle of the game loading. I was happy to see it working because I found the game at a shady garage sale and wasn't sure of the condition. But with my fears aside, I braced my self for the upcoming title screen. As soon as I heard the Pokémon theme I couldn't help but grinning...but my smile soon faded as I saw Charizard. He looked disappointed, almost sad. After staring at the tiny screen for what seemed like hours, I shrugged it off thinking that it was normal and I was just overreacting. I pressed the start and Charizard roared, just like Venasuar did in Leaf Green.
But I noticed something odd about the selection screen right off the bat. There was no "New Game" option, only "Start." There were no other options either, just "Start." Very puzzled, I reluctantly pressed the only option available and the game started with the black screen.
The last person who played was at pallet Town. He had obviously sold the game after he beat the Elite Four and returned to his player's house because after inspection of his party and badges, he had two level one- hundred Pokémon along with all eight badges.
The trainer's name was TOM. I laughed at this because this is the name I gave my trainer on my old games. I tried to exit TOM's room but a text bow appeared simply stating, "Not now." Now I was freaking out. This wasn't normal. I paced TOM around the room a bit until another text box came up. "Supper is ready." TOM walked down the stairs by himself and into the bottom room. The table was longer though. With noticeable sprites surrounding the table. Brock, Misty, Aal 8 of the gym leaders, even Giovanni were at the table. If I talk to them they only say one thing: "We were waiting for you." After talking to all eight of them, TOM slowly walked to his spot of the table and his mom appeared. "ARE YOU HUNGRY?" This part scared the shit out of me. Her text was red, blood red. Like my finger bled right onto the screen and spelled those words.
Then suddenly, a realistic plate appeared on the table. And what was on it...or should I say who, was the bloodied up, dead body of Gary. "See dear? I made your favorite." The blood red text appeared again and it seemed that all the gym leaders were smiling. "LET'S DIG IN!" The game splashed red blood up on the screen, then reset itself.
I put down the Game Boy, my heart pounding. It scared me, but something inside me wanted to play again. Find out more about this fucked up version of Pokémon Fire Red. I looked back at the screen. Instead of "Start" the words "New Game" were etched on the screen in blue letters. I pressed A and the game faded to black. And instead of being greeted by Oak, I was presented with Gary. He had that same smirk, but something was off about it. Almost like he was mocking me, and I was right. The first lines of texts were, "Hey, look who's finally old enough to be a trainer? Hah! I'll bet you'll die before you reach Viridian City!" The game faded to black one last time and I was in my room again. But for some reason the sprite was smaller, almost child like, with a sad face, almost crying.
I final took control of him and walked downstairs. I was greeted with another text box, "Oh hello TOM." I knew it. I was once again the freak from the last file. TOM. This must be how his story began. TOM's mom appeared on screen and she continued talking. "Has JAMES been picking on you again? You look sad." JAMES must've been this game's Gary. "Well it's time for you to head off isn't it? Here, you don't want to leave without your KNIFE."
"You got KNIFE." The game referred to KNIFE as a living thing. So as soon as the text box disappeared and I regained control of TOM, I checked my Pokémon and sure enough there was a Pokémon named KNIFE. KNIFE was oddly a Wooper. After I checked out KNIFE's stats, he had all stats 999. Hacked, of course.
I walked outside and bumped into Gary, or should I say JAMES. JAMES taunted me, telling me that I would fail as a trainer, and threw many insults at me. But one insult was in the blood red text I'd come to hate. "FATTY." This struck me as odd. Why was that word the only red one? JAMES soon challenged me to a battle. I sent out KNIFE and he sent out his Pokémon, a Growlithe named simply "DOG." DOG attacked first, not even giving me a chance to use an attack. DOG used an attack I'd never seen before called "MAUL." Strangely, KNIFE didn't take any damage. But the text box said, "TOM started bleeding!" Followed by a laughing noise, probably JAMES. I finally got to see KNIFE's moves.
He only had two, STAB, and CUT. I tried using Cut because It was the move I knew. But it wouldn't let me. It would just make the noise as If I was walking into a wall. So I used Stab and the screen splattered blood like before and the battle was over. I was back outside TOM's house. JAMES was bent down; his pixilated face looked like he was crying. "WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY DOG!?" The text was, once again, blood red. JAMES soon ran off. "YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS!" Sounds like sobbing emitted from my Game Boy. But TOM looked happy. Too happy. He had a big blood thirsty grin on his face and before I knew it I was back in control.
I walked to Viridian city; no wild Pokémon faced me. I considered this as luck and continued onward. Nothing was wrong with Viridian city. Except the lack of the guy who hasn't had his coffee. I marched through Viridian Forest with ease; still no wild Pokémon, though. I thought this was odd, but then again, what wasn't? I got to Pewter City. It was deserted. No Pokémon Center, no Gym, no Pokémart. Just a lone house in the middle of the town. I entered and found Brock. I talked to him and he said, "Hey TOM. Let's go get that JAMES once and for all!" He then left the house. That forced me to exit too, and continue on my strange journey.
This continued through the game. No trainers, no wild Pokémon. And every town had one lone house with a Gym leader. That all changed when I got to Lavender town. The place was once again deserted, but there was no house. Just a grave. I checked it and it said, "R.I.P DOG." And as soon as I exited the text box, JAMES came on screen. "You see what you did FATTY?" FATTY was blood red. "I'm going to kill you!" Another battle started. I sent out KNIFE. I honestly forgot about him because I haven't used him since the first battle against DOG. This time JAMES sent out a shiny Syther named "GUN." GUN attacked first using a move called "SHOT" but it missed. KNIFE automatically used CUT and what the text box said disturbed me. "JAMES's hand fell off! JAMES dropped gun! GUN fainted!"
As the battle ended the same scream that I heard after killing DOG but longer and more blood curdling. JAMES ran off, dropping an item. I picked it up. "TOM got GUN!" I checked my party, and sure enough, GUN was there. He was now in the first slot, with KNIFE in the second.
The game kept on going as before, one-housed towns and Gym leaders inside them. Until finally I had nowhere else to go but back to Viridian. I made my long trek back and it was empty, with only one house, just like the rest. I entered and Geoponic greeted me. "C'mon TOM, let's go get him. He won't be calling us FAT any more." FAT was in blood red letters. He then walked out and a messaged appeared, "You got eight badges!", prompting me to go to the Elite Four.
As I did so, the people guarding the gates so nobody unqualified would enter were all dead in a pile of realistic guts and blood. I shivered and forged on though Victory Road. As soon as I got past it and face-to-face with the Elite Four, the Gym leaders appeared behind me. "We're right behind you TOM."
I entered the first room where Lorelei is. But instead I was greeted with a young boy sprite. When I talked to him, a battle started, where I sent out GUN. If I tried to switch to KNIFE, it'd just give me the same sound when I was trying to use Cut earlier, in my first battle. I used the only move GUN had, SHOOT, and it killed the boy before he could even send out a Pokémon of his own. This went on for the other three trainers until I saw JAMES at the champ's spot.
A battle started and JAMES didn't send out a Pokémon, but instead he used a move called "SORRY." JAMES looked very sad, and he was crying. The game said "It's not very effective." And before I could do anything a realistic gunshot rang from my Game Boy and the blood once again splattered on my screen.
The games credits rolled and before I knew it, I was back at the dinner table, with JAMES's dead body for supper and TOM's mom and gym leaders around it. "Hurry up and eat! His body warmth is depleting!" The screen turned black once again and It showed DOG's grave, along with another. "R.I.P JAMES Who's the FATTY now?" For the final time the blood red text appeared on the screen spelling the words I longed for so much: "THE END."
I turned of the game one last time and to find that title had changed to "Pokémon Blood Red" in that same damned blood red text. The only thing is, it wont let me past the title screen no matter how many times I press A, Start, or reset the game. Maybe TOM doesn't want anyone reliving his life twice. From what I get from this game is that Tom was a "fat" kid, and his school mate James and his four friends tortured Tom and his eight friends to the point of suicide about them being overweight.
One day, Tom had enough and decided to do something. He took a harmless butter knife and sharpened it. Thus having Wooper, a seemingly harmless Pokémon with high stats. As he walked outside, James met him with his dog. James's dog attacked Tom almost to death, but Tom managed to kill James's dog. James vowed for revenge. Knowing he was in trouble, Tom decided to round up all of his friends who had also been picked on my James to take him down once and for all. His closest fiend wasn't home, thus Viridian city being normal the first time I visited it. But half way though gathering his friends though out town, Tom encountered James yet again, but this time James brought his dad's pistol along with him and he shot at Tom. He missed, and Tom took this opening to cut off James's arm. James managed to escape Tom and fled. But he made the life changing mistake of dropping his gun, which Tom picked up.
Tom gathered the rest of his friends and went off to James's house. There James's thug like friends were waiting for him. Tom's friends took down the thugs and Tom shot all four of them. The gunshots brought James out of his house and Tom pointed the gun at him. James cried for Tom's forgiveness but it was too late. Tom pulled the trigger and finished his job. They all went back to Tom's house for a victory dinner. If they really did eat James is unknown. But what is known for certain is that JAMES isn't burried next to his DOG.
