Rabbit Season
Okay, to start this one off, it isn't technically a lost episode - it's a flash game i found browsing around the early web but since i have little to no other place to report this, i will do it right here.
My name is not important, what's important is what i saw. Being a young child, i used to watch Spongebob Squarepants as well as play various flash games that the official Nickelodeon site had to offer - i always loved Spongebob's Pizza Toss. The game was very difficult since i wasn't natively English, so i had trouble getting the controls right but i managed to enjoy myself playing it nonetheless. Unfortunately, with so much browsing for Flash games on the Nickelodeon site, i eventually ran out on new Spongebob games and instead of waiting, decided to browse around on Google to figure out if there was any site that offered other flash games surrounding Spongebob whether that'd be flash games that were removed, unused or games simply lost in time. Hopping from site to site, i delayed the inevitable by having a few more game sessions with interesting Spongebob flash games that weren't around on the Nickelodeon site. Soon, i ran into the same problem again: i had no flash games left to play.
I can hardly blame myself for doing what i would've done anyways, but i made a fresh mistake that i wished i avoided. If only i was more patient... Typing 'Spongebob Flash Games' in the search bar, i jumped many pages back on Google - page 5, page 14, page 23... i eventually stumbled upon a site that was unlike the others. If i remember correctly, it was named spongeboborigins.com but i may be incorrect since that site isn't around.... anymore. Clicking on the site URL, it said the following on Google - "Play Rabbit Season Spongebob Flash games - SpongebobOrigins". I have never heard of a Rabbit Season in Spongebob at the time before. I have to mention this happened around 2012, which means the episode "Bunny Hunt" didn't exist and therefore, Sea Bunnies didn't exist. Going to the site, i saw a few pop-ups of ads left and right but didn't think too much of it - i had those before. I wish i had clicked off after seeing the somewhat disturbing site interface. Pictures of VHS Spongebob and other creepypastas were all over the site. Reverting back to the Rabbit Season flash game page after curiousity took the best of me and sitting through the loading screen, i finally had a new game to play.
The game opened with Spongebob, Patrick and Mr. Krabs on Jellyfish Field. After choosing between Spongebob and Patrick as my main character, Mr. Krabs explained the situation.
"It's Rabbit Season! Catch me a handful of these fine Jellyfish and you shall be rewarded!"
Excited to play, i didn't mind the 'weapon' screen at all and immediately picked the jellyfish net since i really thought it would've been the most effective weapon this round. Since i picked Spongebob, Patrick became AI controlled, and i had to race Patrick to collect as many Jellyfish as i could. After getting used to the controls, i quickly gathered as many jellyfish on my side as i could - i was proud to see i collected 8 whole jellyfish before checking on Patrick to see if i was still in the lead.
I was baffled. Patrick wasn't catching the jellyfish. He was stabbing them with a spear. As he jabbed his spear into the jellyfish, it's lifeless body fell onto the ground which Patrick quickly picked up. We both had 8 jellyfish at that point, but unlike mine, Patrick's collected Jellyfish were dead. As we race back to Mr. Krabs, he cheerfully took in Patrick's portion of jellyfish, but he seemed unamused with mine.
"These jellyfish are no good, Spongebob! Try again next time and don't let me down again!"
The screen got abruptly covered with a cheerful image of Patrick with the text "Patrick Wins!" before i was sent back to the main menu. Whatever that round was got me in utter confusion. This was not how you catched jellyfish. As i restarted the round and picked Spongebob once more, i scrolled to the weapons wheel. Choosing from all the grotesque melees i could use, i picked the dagger. Stabbing the jellyfish felt wrong in every way but i was truly interested in seeing what'd happen. Bringing back all the dead jellyfishes back to Mr. Krabs, he shouted:
"Excellent work my boy! You have satiated my needs!"
The screen this time showed Spongebob, with the text "Spongebob Wins!" before i was sent to the next level. Level by level, the killings became more disturbing. From jellyfish to sea urchins to scallops, it only seemed to get worse. None of the levels could be won if i did not kill the creatures in advance. Mr. Krabs would only take the animals that got murdered. Then, i came to the Snail level.
"It's Rabbit Season! Catch me a handful of these fine Snails and you shall be rewarded!"
Spongebob seemed eager to hunt for the snails which was incredibly confusing - how couldn't he care about the well-being of these pets if he has one of his own? The onslaught began. As me and Patrick ravaged through the snails and their intestines, bodily fluids and other gross substances (mainly their slime) flew around the inside of the Pet Shelter (which was the map), Mr. Krabs laughed once more as i returned all the snails from my side to him.
"Excellent work my boy! You have satiated my needs!"
I got upset after that message. Whatever i just played did not feel right at all. I wish that was the last of the levels but looking at the level list, there were roughly 12 more levels to go. If only they wouldn't be so bad.
The next level took us straight to the middle of the Krusty Krab. Patrick brought his trusty spear with him which he had been using for nearly every level. I tried switching around weapons but the dagger seemed to be the most effective combined with my playstyle. I was shocked to hear the next objective.
"It's Rabbit Season! Catch me a handful of these fine Customers and you shall be rewarded!"
Oh God, i thought to myself. I knew exactly what was going to happen and i really wanted to stop playing, but i couldn't - i had been recording the gameplay after the Sea Urchin level and i was not going to let this go unnoticed. I have to keep playing. A massacre unfolded. As the customers went screaming and tried to escape the building, Mr. Krabs laughed with glee as he looked content with me and Patrick's gains. I won this level, but at a significant cost - the cadavers of many and the insides of many more were spread out over the Krusty Krab, but none of the characters seemed to care for as they have served their purpose for this level.
"It's Rabbit Season! Catch me as many parts of Squidward and you shall be rewarded!"
What the fuck. Squidward was screaming in agony, but barely any sound came out of his mouth: It was tied up. I stopped playing at this point as i was baffled - Patrick dug into Squidward's torso as the blood spew around. After seeing enough of Squidward's innards being tossed around, i positioned Spongebob in the corner of my playing field - i did not want him to come close to that. Mr. Krabs noticed my unusual behavior.
"What are you doing, boy!? It's Rabbit Season! Catch me as many parts of Squidward and you shall be rewarded!"
I didn't move. I couldn't do this. I cannot comprehend what i had stumbled upon. As Patrick returned the flesh, organs, teeth, eyes and whatever else was in the pulp in his hands, Mr. Krabs turned towards me. As my character entered first person mode, i realized this wasn't a flash game. It wasn't flash at all - it was a full-blown engine of unknown origin that seemed to have some sort of sentient thought as it knew exactly why i was cornered up refusing to participate. Mr. Krabs smiled but, he changed. His eyes darkened until they were just black, long eye balls with no pupils or irises or anything. The gum and teeth in his mouth deformed to an irregular shape and his limbs stretched out, the end of his claws changing to the shape of a scythe.
Now i know what Mr. Krabs intentions were and why it was Rabbit Season. I clicked off the game page as quickly as possible after catching a glimpse of him ripping Spongebob apart. Being on the main page of Spongeboborigins.com, the VHS Spongebob and other creepypasta material were focused on staring at me. Knowing the whole site was an extention of an anomalous engine, i left that site and ran my parents' virus scanner at least 4 times before making sure i could calm down and be safe. I am not touching that site again.
It took me a week to get used to Spongebob Squarepants again, and the thoughts of Rabbit Season never left my mind. As i opened my phone, i realize it wasn't my computer that the engine had infiltrated: My phone background was changed. All that was shown was a torn apart Spongebob and Rabbit Season Mr. Krabs. Text on the screen thanked me:
