The 1-Up Theory

If you play video games, then you're bound to know what a 1-Up is. An extra life, a free guy, or whatever you like to call it, it will supply you with an extra life in case you make a mistake in your video game adventures. But what does 7-UP have to do with all this? Well, there is a theory I have. So sit back, relax, get a cup of coffee, and try not to spill it on the computer.

On March 13th, 2015, a hacker discovered that if you got 7 extra lives at the exact same time in Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U, a strange clip would appear. It would last a millisecond, and put you back into the game. The cutscene was never found in the game's files, and the hacker couldn't determine what they saw. Armed with a camera, the hacker got 7 extra lives at the same time, and recorded the clip that appeared. When he slowed the footage, they found that it was a perfectly normal advertisement for 7-UP brand soda. Puzzled, the hacker called the company that made 7-UP, and asked them why this ad was in the game. The person who answered the phone hung up immediately. Slowing the footage even more, the hacker found a static image of the famous green 1-Up mushroom from the Mario series, with no eyes and two 7-UP soda cans where the eyes should have been. Again, the hacker called the 7-UP company, but the lines were closed for no reason. Puzzled by what they had saw, the hacker posted all the information about his strange experience on an internet forum. There were many responses, but one person in particular was really strange. Here is the conversation that went on with the anonymous commenter.

youpooplol9090: well i think its because youre getting seven lives at the same time so its 7up

calmdownpeople: I think we should just forget this ever happened.

The hacker who posted the information was found dead in his house a week later with a single gunshot wound to the head. The page was taken down and it seemed like the incident was forgotten until another hacker found a similar commercial in Sonic Generations. Again, they got 7 lives at the same time when the commercial appeared. They showed the footage off on Youtube and slowed it down for everyone to see. It didn't get very many views before it was taken down and the hacker was killed in a similar way to the last one. Eventually, the CIA found out about this incident. They interviewed the 7-UP company and found nothing wrong. Here is the interview with the CEO of the 7-UP company in text.

March 25th, 2015, 18:17 PM. Interview with 7-UP company CEO. Asked for name to not be mentioned.

Interviewer: We'll ask you a few questions, then you may leave.

CEO: *nods*

Interviewer: What commercial was shown in those video games?

CEO: A recent commercial for 7-UP we've been working on.

Interviewer: And why is the commercial in question there?

CEO: It was a fun idea by one of our staff members to include it in very few copies of recent video games. The price wasn't too bad, so we decided to include it for some lucky people to find.

Interviewer: Why is there a 1-Up mushroom from the Super Mario series with 7-UP cans for eyes in the commercial?

CEO: No reason, thought it might be fun to include.

Interviewer: Do you know why the people who posted information on this topic were found dead?

CEO: No, sir.

Interviewer: Okay, we're done here. Thanks.

Interview concluded at 18:25 PM, same date.

Now that I've told you the story so far, allow me to shed some light on this. The commercial was never added to the games. I have surveyed multiple Nintendo AND Sega staff members and they claim to never have added the commercial to the games. Any game made from 2013-2015 that has extra lives has this commercial in it. I have tested it with games that just came out a few minutes ago, and it's there. But one game in particular actually HAD the file with the video in it. It was none other than "Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric" of the Wii U. The folder which contained the video was called "NOTAGAINFREDERICK" and contained the video, titled "FREDERICK'SFAVORITE" and a .txt file titled "HELPUS" with the icon spattered in blood. The video, "FREDERICK'SFAVORITE" was just the commercial again. Watching it again, there was an even faster commercial for Pop Rocks, with another 1-Up mushroom with Pop Rocks for eyes. The .txt file, "HELPUS" was a police report. It mentioned a 9 year old boy named Fredrerick who tried the infamous combination of Pop Rocks and soda, using 7-UP as the soda, and died. Here is my theory. This boy, Frederick, is getting revenge on the two companies that ultimately revenged his death, and is showing his love for video games in the process. Maybe the companies don't want anyone else to see the forced commercials because Frederick will make anyone who sees or mentions the commercials to commit suicide. This is most likely what happened, because---
