The Bunny Hall
I don't know what made me do it. All I can think about right now is the bunny hall, and how it traumatized me as a kid.
I downloaded this game once on a website that had 100% free games. It was a military game similar to Counter Strike. You could play online with up to 24 people in a server, and it was relatively popular for a game you didn't have to pay for.
I loaded up the game on a weekend night when my parents weren't home. I clicked on the servers list; I usually joined the popular servers, but one of them caught my eye. The title was in a different font than the rest, and it was rainbow colored.
"BUNNY HALL!" is what it said. I didn't even know what bunny hall meant. Was it a hall full of bunnies? Or was it someone named "Bunny", and it was their server? Needless to say, I was intrigued at how they went out of their way to make it stand out among the others. It said that there was a single person in the server, and I figured they were lonely there... so I clicked on it.
The loading screen was completely blank. It was just a black screen with a loading bar, and I could swear in my headphones I heard something that sounded faintly like music you'd hear at a circus. After what seemed like ages, I loaded into the server.
I saw why they called it "Bunny Hall" immediately. It was some weird little hallway that had strange wallpaper, with pink bunnies upon it and a cartoony background that was like a spring day. The floor was littered with polka dots, or jelly beans. I turned around in-game and saw that there was just a blank wall, so I went on forward.
I kept going through halls and halls of polka dot floors, pink bunny walls, and low lighting. Every once in a while I thought I heard faint noises like people were whispering things to me, but just barely audible to the point in which I thought I was imagining it. Then, things began to take a turn for the worse.
The hallway started expanding, and my character was running down an endless stretch. I didn't even know why it was happening, as I had never seen something like this in any other map. I kept trying to move forward but the contrast began to bump itself up and it got even brighter, like someone finally turned the lights on. I was feeling really nervous but I kept going, wanting to know what was at the end. I sat there and held down the "W" key for a very long time. I started to hear voices. They were horrible. Something inhuman... like reversed speech, faint screams, and muffled crying. I couldn't even see the end of the hallway. I just kept running past the blurry pink bunnies and the floor began to look like a warped clown suit. I felt like my character was running faster and faster as the hall stretched out so much that a small light was visible at the end. The voices were so fast and loud I felt like I was going crazy. Once I got to the light, things got even weirder from there.
The hallway let itself stretch back to normal, but everything looked brown and dirty, like a labyrinth in an abandoned tunnel. I started to hear morose piano music that made me feel really sad. My character kept going through the halls and eventually I came across a solid wall. Had I reached the end? This couldn't be the end. Where was the other person playing on this server supposed to be? I immediately was banned from the server, with a message telling me that I've found the secret of Bunny Hall, and that my life will be long and prosperous. I tried finding the server again but it didn't exist anymore. Nobody else knew what I was talking about, either, when I asked all my friends who played.
Many years later, I'm now age 119. How much longer do I have left?
