The Erlking Adaptation Theory

Have you ever heard of der Erlkönig? Or maybe the more English Erlking? There have been many pieces written about him and even a poem by Goethe. All that said, there's still little information about him. Some depictions show his as little more than a bogeyman that abducts and kills children, but more often than not, it's just a touch that kills. It seems as though he seeks out only children as his prime targets and resides in forest areas.

It wasn't until I started reading more and more about Slender Man that I began to connect the dots... A timeless, faceless evil that transcends time.

Slender Man used to use disguises, but he's become comfortable with showing himself, even seemingly taunting us with the foreshadowing of the ones he will soon take.

All these different names and appearances, the more we think we know about Slender Man the more it changes and adapts. Slender Man has always had a taste for children, but sometimes I wonder if that will... "adapt."

We can't protect our children, I have no faith that we can protect ourselves. The Erlking, Tall Man, Slender Man, whatever alias he chooses, isn't killing us; he's killing our faith and will to live. He won't rest until we have no hope. Maybe there really is no hope. No hope.
