The Holder of Luck
Author's note: Yes, I do know that this is not the "original" Holder of Luck story. I made this myself and wasn't aware that there was already one on the official site. I won't add it to the genre listing for Holders.
In any city, in any country, go to any casino you can get yourself into. Make sure the casino offers Blackjack as a table game, or you won't be able to reach your goal. When inside, find an empty Blackjack table and sit down. Place your bet, then wait for the dealer to hand you your first card. After the dealer hands you the card, casually ask to speak to the one who calls himself "The holder of luck". If the dealer says anything, immediately get up and leave the casino as quickly as you can, for they now know your goal and will do anything to stop you. Make sure that when you're leaving, you don't run, as this is what attracts your pursuers.
However, if the dealer pauses for a moment and hands you another card face down, you're in the right place. From this point on, your life all depends on your luck, so you better hope its in your favor. Do not flip the card over just yet. Instead, give the dealer back your first card, the one he gave you when the game started. Now, flip the face down card over. If it is an ace of any suite, pray for a quick death, for that is your fate. If it is a face card of any suite, it is not the right time, and you must come back the next day to try again.
If it is a number card of any suite, you can continue. You will now play a real game of blackjack, except your betting for your life, so make choices carefully. Note that you can not surrender. While playing, do not ever look at the dealer, for he is now the holder. Do not be curious to look at your surroundings either, for it is now the holders twisted world, and it will only induce insanity on your mind. In most cases, the holder may even speak, and try to socialize while playing. You may feel free to talk with him, but do not get too distracted, for this is what he is really attempting to do. Also, do not mention anything about your personal life, such as where you live or people you care about, or they may be put to risk.
You must win three rounds of blackjack in order to move on. The holder understands that your luck is never perfect, so you can keep attempting to win any number of times, no matter how many times you lose. However, note that if the holder at any point gets a wins with a 21, you will be met with an excruciatingly painful death. After winning three rounds, he will deem you worthy for the final challenge.
He will take all cards on the table and shuffle the deck. He will the deal you five cards face down. Do not look at the cards until he picks up his hand. It will then be apparent that the final challenge is a single hand of poker. There are no jokers or wild cards. Both hands are completely fair and random, but the holder's hand is always lucky, for the most part. If you have absolutely nothing to win with, throw your hand face down immediately and say the following words: "Luck has not shown mercy to me". He will then pause and deal you five new cards.
The holder will lay down his hand first. He will loudly state his hand, often with confidence. Lay down your hand. If your hand loses, he will say "the odds are not in your favor". You will then be met with a horrible death, or sometimes, worse. If you win, however, he will look at your hand with horrible anger. Even though you're not looking at his face, his rage can easily be felt. He'll viciously throw his arms across the table, sending cards flying across the room. When he has calmed himself, he will let out a large sigh. Once this happens, ask him the question, the only one he will now respond too: "What are the odds of finding them?".
The holder will answer your question in horrifying and disturbing detail, and then place a card face down in front of you. DO NOT flip it over. He will then say, with vengefulness and malice in his voice:"I look forward to playing you again". You will then black out, and then wake up with a jolt at the blackjack table, in the casino where you started.
Look at the table in front of you. You will see a face up card on the table, in the exact spot where the holder left it. The card is a king of clubs, but it holds daggers in its hands, instead of swords or axes as normal. When you think the time has come, place this card into any normal deck of cards, and you will play The Holder of Luck once more.
For that card is object number 477 out of 538. Will luck show mercy to you again?
