The Lost Episode of Sylvester the Cat
The Looney tunes are a group of cartoon characters, shorts, Tv shows, and Movies consisting of various members like Tweety, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, Barnyard dawg, Ralph, Wile e coyote, The roadrunner, and the most famous one, Bugs bunny.
But my favorite was always Sylvester the cat. To those who don’t know, Sylvester was a character created by Friz Freleng who first debuted in “Life with feathers” which came out in 1945.
Many will remember him as the enemy to Tweety, constantly trying to eat him, with the only obstacles in his path being Granny, and Hector.
One day I was out thrifting, looking for clothes and DVDs to purchase for my small apartment when I came across something, it was a Looney Tunes DVD, I smiled at the sight of Porky, Bugs and Speedy, and much to my delight it had a sticker, the sticker read “Now includes a unreleased Sylvester and Tweety cartoon!” I was now grinning stupidly like a child when I slipped it into my basket.
By the time I made it home, I had all the stuff I needed, at first, I was about to go to bed when something fell out the bag and hit the floor, it was the DVD, I knew what I had to do at that very moment.
I plugged in the player, and then placed the disc inside, the menu opened, I was greeted by an animation of Elmer chasing Bugs with his gun drawn, I had the option “Lost episode” presented to me.
Without hesitation I clicked it, the menu had Sylvester behind Tweety, I clicked play.
The short opened with the same theme “The merry go round broke down” as Sylvester’s head was shown behind the same backdrop, the title “Vengeance” showed up, the only credit there was “Voices by Mel blanc” the cartoon finally started.
Sylvester was chasing Tweety as always, Granny entered the scene and began to argue with Sylvester, the fight got heated as they raised their voices, suddenly Granny grabbed a vase and threw it at Sylvester, the fight escalated to insults as Sylvester began to bleed, Granny then proceeded to beat Sylvester with a broom as the cat fled.
It cut to the outside, Sylvester was pacing quickly, contemplating something, he quickly and hurriedly entered the store behind him.
The cartoon then switched to a dark stairwell, loud and metalic thumps could be heard coming up them, it switched to the end of the hallway, Elmer Fudd stood there, his hat gone and his clothes torn up as he lifted his rifle, he muttered “come get me you mothew fuckew” as he fired rounds down the hall, it switched back, Sylvester held a revolver as he banged on the door.
Granny unknowingly opened it, Sylvester opened fire instantly, Granny’s fate was never shown as she promptly disappeared after this scene, it then cut to Porky pig in a hunter's outfit like “Porky’s duck hunt” he approached bugs who tried to say his iconic “What's up doc” before he was shot instantly, Bugs writhed in pain, covering his chest as he gasped for air, Daffy waddled into the scene, his mouth was open ready to say something when he got shot in the face, usually, his beak would be left spinning or completely off his face, however all that was shown was a bloody pulp of a head, Daffy collapsed instantly obviously dead, as Porky shot bugs once more, the pig stood proud as he slung bugs over his shoulder.
However, the rabbit wasn’t dead, Bugs craned his head up once more to say “You did this to me” in a raspy voice, it cut to Tweety singing in his cage, when Sylvester came from behind, he opened his jaws and bit Tweety’s head off, he sat there, smiling as it cut away once more.
It showed the roadrunner; the bird had a bottle of whiskey in his feathered hand, and he appeared drunk, Wile silently approached as the bird puked on the floor.
Wile came from behind and snapped his neck, the bird put up no fight like he did before in previous cartoons, Wile walked away triumphantly, with the bird being dragged behind him.
It cut back to Sylvester standing in the living room, broken glass and blood littered the floor, as he stood there staring into the camera, A body could be seen thrown behind the couch, it heavily resembled Hector, Sylvester then broke the silence, “I finally did it...” he said “i finally got the bird.” I reached for the TV remote as Sylvester stomped his way further to the camera.
“You laughed at me...” He muttered, that's when Yosemite Sams voice was heard from the window.
“COME OUT YOU WRETCHED VARMIT!!!” He yelled through a megaphone, Sam was dressed in a police uniform, as other cops were behind him, with their guns drawn,
Sylvester looked out the window visibly pissed, without a word he reloaded the revolver and grabbed his son, “What’s happening pop?” Sylvester Junior asked confused, “Shut the fuck up kid.” Sylvester said to his son, with clear venom in his voice.
He walked to the window with the gun to his now visibly distressed sons head, “DON’T GET ANY CLOSER!” Sylvester barked at Sam and the cops, “OR ELSE I’LL BLOW HIS FUCKIN’ BRAINS OUT!!!” The cops wasted no time in firing, Sylvester was shot in the head as he collapsed, the cops busted the door down and took Sylvester Junior away.
It cut to the ending scene, at first, I expected Porky to burst out and deliver his iconic “That’s all folks!” However Sylvester appeared instead, He loaded the revolver once more and shot the camera, the short, ended right there, I was now shaken to my core as I expected the horrid picture to continue, However I decided to eject the disc and snap it in half.
I threw the DVD set out, and it was taken away by the garbage men that came the next day.
I haven’t watched Looney tunes since...
