The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack: Unmade Series Finale
I've watch a lot of Cartoon Network when I was younger because I was born in the 90s since that's when the channel first came. There was such amazing classic shows like Dexter's Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Ed Edd 'n Eddy, Powerpuff Girls, and Courage The Cowardly Dog.
But honestly Cartoon Network nowadays threw the 2010s was just complete crap because of one thing, and that being Teen Titans Go and other reboots like Powerpuff Girls and Ben 10, although there were at least some shows that at least satisfied me for a while, shows like Adventure Time, Regular Show, The Amazing World of Gumball, and Steven Universe. The shows sadly ended due to having such long runs and since time was changing much more but Now in 2020 there are newer great shows like Summer Camp Island, Infinity Train, Victor and Valentino, Mao Mao Heroes of Pure Heart, and Craig of The Creek.
But the thing about Cartoon Network in the years 2004 to 2010 there were shows such as Chowder, My Gym Partner's a Monkey, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and Camp Lazlo, and also a show that I'm most familiar with that being the show, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.
Oh boy.... to be honest I never watched much of the show because of all the horrifying and gross nature in it like seriously! Every character just scares the crap out of me, like Candy Wife who is just a raggedy doll with candy in her body. There's also Tee Hee Tummy Tums who is just a man with a tied bag mask covering his entire head which would make him look like a fucking serial killer and even worse was the doctor, Dr. Barber who has such creepy eyes and such damn huge teeth and himself even always acted creepy like he's some torturing cannibal. The thing that scared me the most and hell even gave me nightmares was that fucking cat in that one episode I've seen and which I barely even watched the show for so long because the way it looks, the eyes of the cat are pitch black and it's mouth looks like a hole of spikes and it would always show such realistic close ups of it like hell I thought the butterfly from spongebob was more scary but oh my god that cat looks like a ghost cat of satan himself.
The show seemed just as scary as Courage The Cowardly Dog But although the thing I did find the show funny was the protagonists, Flapjack, Captain K'nuckles and Bubbie the talking whale who is Flapjack's adoptive mother. I honestly do wonder why Flapjack dosen't really have real parents or they are even mentioned in the show but that's pretty much mystery issues with any kids cartoon and sometimes they just can't be solved. The whole thing of the show and even says in the theme song that Captain K'nuckles was trying to face a place called "Candied Island" and Flapjack decides to follow him all the time because of him dreaming to be an adventurer although Bubbie refuses him to do dangerous things and getting to risky situations and honestly they always try making it to candied island in many episodes but always fail.
The show was just another SpongeBob ripoff because it always has similar music and characters and kind of like Ren and Stimpy they'ed always show realistic gross out paintings of characters. And I should also mention one of the voice actors that play in spongebob did the cast in this show also. I'd honestly wondered why the hell the show was cancelled without a finale and didn't even involve Flapjack finally getting to be in Candied Island. But at least I got information about the people behind this show and they turned out to be the same creators of the newer Cartoon Network shows I've mentioned earlier like Adventure Time and Regular Show but there's also other ones like the miniseries, Over The Garden Wall and also the greatest show in Disney Channel or Disney XD, Gravity Falls. So I figure that it all makes sense because those shows's animation happens to look almost like this show but it was only before they made their shows.
Now I'm gonna talk about something serious about an experience I had about this show and finding out why the show never had a decent ending and I wanna start by saying the creator of this show, Thurop Van Orman, I so happen to be friends with and met him a couple times at comic con for taking pictures with him and taking autographs since I did like him for voicing Gideon from Gravity Falls.
So I was on Twitter going to his account and requested him if we can chat in messages and surprisingly was fine with it since he didn't have much to do at the time. So we chatted for an hour talking about how he's doing if he's got plans for new shows in the future or anything he'll be apart of but he didn't really say he was making anything and just spending time with his family. However.... I know realized about his show and that's when I started asking him about something mysterious about Flapjack and if he ever made a series finale and why he didn't get the chance to air it on Cartoon Network right before the show was cancelled.
It only took him 5 minutes to answer and it awkwardly seemed like he was a bit nervous to explain it to me but he finally replied with a hug box reading,
"I never told anyone about this but if you promise to never and I mean NEVER tell anyone about it. Back when I was running out of ideas for more episodes of the show but that's when I just decided that I should just move on but however I wanted to try making an episode as dark as possible to make it an absolute bizarre ending of the show but I knew it was wrong and Cartoon Network would probably fire me considering that it has some terrifying violence and a messed up ending but when I finally finished the episode and showed it to the workers of Cartoon Network Studios, they were furious and argued with me about how much that kids weren't going to be comfortable watching it so that's when Cartoon Network cancelled my show by firing me even though I going to quit anyway but luckily I have file of the entire episode on my computer somewhere and when I find it I'll email you with the video so you can download and watch it but be warned I don't wanna mess up your life or anything but if it does than I apologize but be sure because I prefer you not sharing this to anyone. You got to promise me."
So I then heard a notification from my google emails from Orman himself with the MP4 file saying "FlapjackUnairedFinalEpisode.MP4". I downloaded it and when it was done I began to play the whole episode with the theme song and going right to the title card.
This is when I felt pretty uncomfortable already because instead of the music being goofy and happy like every title card, it was a little distorted and unnerving. The title card of the episode read "The End of K'nuckles" and then it cuts to the sunrise background showing Bubbie sleeping with Flapjack and Captain K'nuckles sleeping inside her mouth like they usually do. Flapjack then wakes up and yawns saying
"Oh boy, Captain it's gonna be another great day ain't it?".
When K'nuckles woke up he replied to him in a irritated tone
"What makes you think that, boy? I'll probably get chased or beat like I normally do just for candy and finding candied island."
"Oh Captain, cheer up let's at least go see peppermint Larry and have some candy at the Candy Barrel. I'm sure that'll make you feel better." Flapjack replied.
It Then transitions to Candy Barrel but it seemed that something weird was going on, there turned out to be no one at the bar and Larry wasn't even there at his bar table and both Flapjack and K'nuckles were both confused and asked were the heck he was but then crying was heard in a room and when Flapjack and K'nuckles seeing what it is and it turned out to be Larry himself hugging his candy wife crying and whining saying he's ruined.
"Peppermint Larry? What's wrong?" Flapjack asked him
and then Larry gasped and then in a second took a breath and said the Candy Barrel was getting shut down Due to angry customers and no longer making candy because they were losing sugar at lots of ways to make sweets. This was where things finally began to go way to far then the show already has, Flapjack and K'nuckles both gasp about Candy Barrel being shut down and there being no more candy left in the dock
"N-no more candy?" Flapjack said beginning to tear up.
K'nuckles then begins to shake in complete shock and his face begins to reveal a very disturbing raging look on his face
"No! This is a lie! That's impossible! Y-you know what? If I can't have candy anymore t-then I'll.. I'll...."
K'nuckles then begins to scream in rage at runs off going berserk but Flapjack now starts shouting at him to wait and please calm down but he continues to run and then he starts tearing tables and chairs and eating them but that's nothing compared to what happens next. He then stops and starts sweating looking at people seeing them as candy and starts going completely insane.
Now, this episode seems to remind me of "K'nuckles and His Hilarious Problem" where he would go completely insane and a lot more addicted to candy and going on rampages and even having such a fucked up dream about Dr. Barber, Peppermint Larry, and a monsterous Flapjack saying we are candied island and putting his hands down his throat and putting loads of candy in his mouth with him choking and suffocating. Like hell that episode fucked me up big time when I've seen it but I had no idea what was going on in this episode.
So when right before Captain K'nuckles goes fully crazy, it cuts showing realistic and bloodshot eyes of him and then he then runs towards a man and bites his head like a zombie eating his flesh as cartoon blood coming out, and I'm not kidding this episode had tons of gore in it.
Flapjack immediately stops shocked seeing what Captain K'nuckles just did. K'nuckles then turns around looking at him with a very disturbing evil face with blood stains coming out of his mouth. Flapjack gets back scared and then K'nuckles roared at started chasing Flapjack to eat him, Flapjack cried running away from him telling him to snap out of it and they can find another way to have candy like going to candied island but no matter what K'nuckles didn't listen and kept gaining on him as he also continues to eat flesh of people in the way. Bubbie then hears all the chaos going on and dashes towards where flapjack is and says,
"What in the name deck is going on?"
K'nuckles then grabs the pot on the floor and throws it at bubbies forehead and she then breathes heavily and sinks down to the ocean. K'nuckles finally stopped at looked at what he just did out his mind saying
"Uh.... Bubbie?"
"BUBBIE!!!!!"
Flapjack screamed reaching his hand out for her as she continued to sink down to the very bottom and then unexpectedly dies in brain damage and sensitive heart rate. Flapjack then now starts crying in complete pain and K'nuckles has a very shocked look on his face seeing what he just did.
"Flapjack.... I-I'm sorry.."
he then goes to Flapjack to pat him on his shoulder but someone stop him by being grabbed in the arm by Officer Norm,
"That's it! I'm I've had enough of your insanity, you've caused trouble in this island long enough. You're under arrest!"
K'nuckles then cries and begs him to let him go but he then goes to jail. K'nuckles now gets visited by Flapjack and talks to him saying he was sorry and he didn't know what was going threw his mind. Flapjack then just stands there silent looking depressed
"B-boy?.."
K'nuckles says as he's about to ask Him what's wrong.
"Don't boy me, K'nuckles. As a matter of fact I'm your not my captain anymore. All I wanted to become an adventurer but every adventure you put me into, we'd always get in trouble and even almost killed. But all that dosen't matter because I never even had a family to begin with until I had Bubbie as a mother and she was always there for me and told me to never give up and I was the best child in this world. But thanks to you, she's gone and now I don't even have parents anymore."
Flapjack replied.
"But boy? Don't you wanna ever make it to candy island like you've wanted to all this time?"
K'nuckles asked him.
"I don't care about that anymore. As a matter of fact I don't even care about candy when don't have anything to care for like a family, I never even knew who my real parents were and why should've i even followed you around, your a MONSTER, K'NUCKLES!!!!"
Flapjack snapped at him. K'nuckles began to sob and looked down in complete same as Flapjack then slowly walk away from his cell cage. Then Dock Hag came and says
"Well Well Well.... if it ain't good old K'nuckles causing messes in my town again. Well I've had it!"
She snapped.
"Now listen. I'm gonna do something that I should've done a long time ago!"
She then gets K'nuckles out of his cage and drags him to a dark room.
"For all the damage you've done, I have no choice to put you in capital punishment!"
She yells as she reveals a moose rope about to hang him. Knuckles begged and cried to be let go and promised he'd never do anything bad again but Hag finally ties him shutting him up and kicking him from the porch and he only had one final breath and choked with foam and eventually realistic blood coming right out of his mouth and dies.
It goes to black and shows flapjack at the next scene looking very sad and him sitting in the bay of the dock watching the view of the sunset. He let out a tear closing his eyes continuing to look out the view and it remained that what for 30 seconds until it faded to black showing "THE END" title card but with very sad music and it finally ended.
What the fuck even was that?! That was the most and I mean the actual most messed up endings for a kids cartoon show. The show was already as scary but this episode was don't right dark but not in a scary way but in a very serious way.
Why would Orman kill off 2 protagonists of this show?! It's complete no wonder Cartoon Network refused to air this. It's been so long that I've never really spoke to Orman for a while because of that truly fucked up episode he showed me.
But like I promised him I'm not sharing anyone my experience even though I'm telling you guys about it here which is rather stupid of me but it's just so I can feel better because of that episode, I had nightmares and I never got much sleep and worried about how horrible that ending was.
But I'm not gonna tell him about it and I definitely won't tell anybody about it, even my friends. So it's obvious that cartoons don't always have proper endings to their show when they get cancelled but I'm at least greatful that episode never aired on TV once so ever.
But I give you this advice to never even try to wonder if any cartoon creator made any kind of lost media that they never shared to anyone. Or you'll end up just like me.
