The Noise in the Kitchen

In the everyday ambience of your house exists a noise. A certain noise that normally, you never notice. You'd think you would, considering how people usually freak out over every little thing. Your mind, in its day-to-day regulation of your body, chooses to filter out unimportant things like it. After all, it's got a lot on its plate for every waking moment just to keep you safe and sane.

The noise that I refer to can be typically found in an average kitchen in an average household. It's what you could describe as a clicking sound, though it will vary in sound from person to person. When you enter your kitchen, close your eyes and think about if you can hear a sound anywhere. It may take anywhere from a few seconds to what seems like forever. But beware - if you leave the house at any time, you may never hear it again.

If you have difficulty trying to get it to happen, try to stomp around to make the room shake. To know where it is, take as much stuff as you can out of the room and then try making noise. It usually lies above your ceiling, and the more noise you make the easier it is to find it. Once you discover it there's usually nothing to do further. You cannot ignore it any longer, however. As you come home each and every day you will know that it's there, and on certain days it will be more noticeable than before. You might wonder that since you know it's there, what exactly is there...?

...well, whatever it is, it knows that you know that it's there. Maybe your brain was doing the right thing by blocking it out...
