The Slender Dog
What I am going to divulge with you dear sir, tis the things of insanity but I ask of you to consider our relationship. Have I ever strayed from being a person of logic and rigour. Very well good sir, let me unweave tis tale for my soul is carrying a heavy burden.
I at age 6 years was given the task to walk our great hound across the old meadows near my farmhouse. He was a juvenile beasts, always tugging against his master's hold. I disposed the old dog and would be more than satisfied to see him rid off my company.
Yet being only the master of the farm, what choice did thy have but to endure such laborious tasks.
The day was faint and clouds seemed to hold prejudice unto the sun, blocking out it's godly rays and casting the Hound and I in temporal bleak surroundings. It t'was at this junction that the Dog stopped dead in it's tracks.
"Be moving" I commanded yet the hound stood it's ground firm.
It's eyes focused on the shrubbery that lay just a few feet yonder. The Mutt's ears stood erected. I felt a chill as the wind gave up course and we were left in silence together.
The shrubs began to rustle and move like shadows dancing on the surface of water, captured between a torch light and the moon, before returning to thy lover's fearful eyes. In other accounts you could just attest that the Shrubs began to move.
From out of shadow stepped a tall slender man in height. He wore not that of a farmer's garments but of an official. His suit as black as charcoal. His long fingers held a chain of sorts. My eyes followed the chain and there to my horror did I see...
A slender dog walked side by his side indeed.
Paws as large as boots.
Claws as sharp as a sparrow's tail.
A nose long and a snout disfigured.
Eyes missing and a cordial suit tis beast was dressed in.
Wounds for an ear.
Myself and the Hound became statues carved in fear. The words of children sang instead of the breeze, their tones a dreadful deadening wheeze but sang they did and clear.
"Slender dog... the slender dog is here"
