Tom and Jerry - The Lost Hanna Barbera Shorts
I was walking back home from school when I found a mysterious VHS tape on my porch, I picked it up and it was labeled "Tom and Jerry Unmade HB Cartoons ©1958, 1959, 1960), I found this bizzare because production of Hanna Barbera Tom and Jerry cartoons ended in 1958 and Gene Deitch got the rights to the characters in 1961, I walked home and put in the tape in my old VCR, the first short started with the MGM logo, however instead of Tanner, it used Leo, which was a no brainer considering Leo replaced Tanner during this time, this short was titled "Suicide Tom", which I assumed was a remake of the short "Blue Cat Blues" but darker in tone.
Suicide Tom
The episode started with Tom crying, Tom spoke "Spike keeps beatin' me up even though Jerry was the cause of the problems, WHY!!!?", it then showed Tom having a meeting with God, "God, take my life, My life sucks.", God then said, "Sorry Tom, but that's against the rules", Tom then decided to walk down the streets in an endless loop for 20 days, On the fifth day, Jerry was oddly walking with him, on the tenth day, the animation looked cruder, even worse than the Deitch shorts, on the fifteenth day, Tom and Jerry were ruined, Tom's face was pulled off and there are some blood on his skull, while Jerry's ears were missing (I assumed he torn off his ears because blood was dropping from where his ears were), on the twentieth day, Tom and Jerry decided to take their lives. They impaled swords through their bodies, the short ended with The Devil (who looked like the owner from Down and Outing, High Steaks, and Sorry Safari from the Deitch era) eating Tom and Jerry.
The Diablo Curse
The next short on the tape was called "The Diablo Curse", It started with Tom finding an ancient gem, he took inside the house, However, George and Joan realize that Tom is the chosen one to stop a curse that is set to befall people.
Tom doesn't believe in the story but watches the news the next day and finds out that someone was killed in a fire. A "Red Dragon" match is found on the scene and this reveals that the person was born on the Year of the Dragon. Later another person is found dead from a snakebite and Tom realizes that he was born on the Year of the Snake.
Tom is confronted by the guy's ghost one night who tells her that a snakebite will kill the next person. Now believing the chain of deaths is part of the curse, Tom saves a kid from getting killed by a snakebite at a Zoo, but a random bystander gets bitten and dies in his stead.
He reads a newspaper which reveals that another person, born in the year of the Sheep, was bludgeoned to death. She eventually realizes the curse was brought upon her family and friends by a Diablo curse (an evil spirit in the Tom and Jerry universe). Tom falls into a trance.
So he saves two kids from getting killed in a bus crash wherein the bus has a print advertisement for a rapper named Diablo. Thinking he has been driven crazy, he watches the news only to find out that the bus indeed crashed as she was told.
Later that night, George and Joan tell their cat that they need to perform a ritual to destroy the diablo. Setting up some incense sticks, Tom, Jerry, George, Joan, Spike, Tyke, Nibbles, Quacker, Butch, Meathead, and Topsy, perform the ritual.
Tom is initially nervous about the ritual but agrees to partake in the ritual anyway for the safety of his life. The ritual happens, but it fails miserably when Quacker gets possessed by the spirit responsible and attacks Tom, disrupting the ritual.
Quacker snaps out of his possessed state and apologizes. Instead, the diablo possesses Jerry and turns him into the spirit's physical form before proceeding to crash the ritual and calling for Tom, intending to kill him and steal his soul...only for Tom's owners to stop him in the nick of time to redo the ritual.
The ritual is performed. A possessed Jerry is brought to the circle as the rest of the characters perform the ritual. Chanting in Japanese and holding burning incense sticks, they try to stop the spirit, but possessed!Jerry is too powerful. He charges towards Tom whom he bravely berates.
After Tom finishes with his rant, the diablo gets into him as intended, and rips his soul apart after tearing it from his body. This leaves Tom without his lifeforce, and with the diablo now powerful enough to unleash the last of its wrath, it causes a paranormal explosion.
The explosion is so powerful it triggers an earthquake that destroys the ritual and kills everyone, Final Destination-style, in the process, including the remaining of the characters. The cartoon ended with the diablo emerging from the ruins of the stadium and pulling off a jumpscare.
Inside the Castle Walls
The next and last short was called "Inside the Castle Walls", I found this a Wario Apparition reference, it turns out this was a musketeers short so that's something new, it started with The King of France giving Tom a warning, I didn't understand a few of it until it got to the part where the King says "And remember, don't look at the castle walls, you don't wanna find The Creature of the Castle Walls." The King left after the warning, but Tom got curious and looked at the walls any way, suddenly, a blue portal opened in the walls, and some black tentacles (possibly The Creature itself) dragged Tom in the portal, Jerry and Nibbles walked into the scene and Nibbles said, "Viens nous chasser pussycat!", The same blue portal appeared in the walls, and Jerry and Nibbles walked into the portal and went inside the castle walls "Ce doit être les murs du château, hein?" Nibbles said, the two mice went inside the purple portal at the end of the wall, it then showed Jerry and Nibbles on a beach setting, Nibbles was behind Jerry, "Don't look back Monsieur Jerry!", but it was too late, Jerry looked back, and Nibbles turned into stone, melted, and turned into dust, Jerry was heart broken at this sight, suddenly Tom's head appeared, turns out he was possessed by The Creature of The Castle Walls, Tom said, "You want fun? Tom give you fun" He said as he pulled out a spike ball, Jerry ran for his life, but the spike ball crushed him, the short ended with the creature of the castle finally showing his face, he was a giant cat head with black tentacles, it then showed a black screen with text saying "Every copy of The Two Mouseketeers is personalized", The tape ended. It destroyed the tape and threw it outside my window.
