Trollpasta Wiki:Blog/Two Year Anniversary of the Site's Revival!

It's been two years now since the site returned in February 2021!

First, a bit of history: When the original FANDOM/Wikia site was shut down in mid-August 2018 the admin team, after realizing that FANDOM would not reverse their decision, immediately begun working on the design of a new, independent Trollpasta Wiki. Progress was going well for the first week but things begun slowing down due to multiple reasons, several of us started becoming more busy with either real life personal issues, work, or university. What also didn't help were the multiple backup sites that appeared on different platforms mirroring the original Trollpasta Wiki's content, which caused hundreds, if not a few thousand people to flock to them falsely assuming they were new official site, thus drowning out our word that the actual new site was being worked on and slowly demotivating us. Eventually by April 2019, as several of us were becoming busier and busier, we had very little time to even work on the new site, and so we pretty much gave up.

In February 2021 after going through an old large screenshot collection several of us started feeling nostalgia for the site, which at that point had been gone for two and a half years. We realized that it would be good to have an official public archive of the original site up online, as the archives that were up at the time had two major issues, half were missing several thousand pages and the other half suffered from data corruption. Since we both had the complete data dump of the site, and since the pandemic had slowed things down for us in real life, we had much more free time to put into this, so we brought it back online - and it's been fairly successful ever since. We underestimated just how much we would bounce back and how much work had to be done to get the site to a functional and easily usable state again, the latter of which took roughly eight months. Over these past few years this is how much progress we've made:

  • Deleted roughly 2,800 bad stories.
  • Heavy category reorganization: several categories were renamed for convenience sake, one was removed due to being deemed not useful, several new categories were introduced for easier browsing.
  • About 2,100 images (94% of the original site's images) were manually restored over the course of 3 months, starting on March 8, 2022 and ending sometime in mid-June of the same year.
  • An average of 70 to 100 new users each month (an average of 30 who make an edit/are active), with 65 to 80 total active users each month.
  • Average of 30k to 50k site views a month. Tends to go up to 60k during the Summer.

Here's to another two years of operation!
