Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon PC Edition

A couple years ago I made a friend over the internet. Today we are still very close. He and I both loved playing video games. Sometimes we would recommend a game to each other. One day he recommended the game Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon. At the time it was only on Xbox 360 so I couldn't play it since I didn't have an Xbox 360. Eventually it came out on Steam so I immediately purchased it. It took a while to download because my internet isn't the best.

I started a Skype call with him so I could talk to him while playing my new game. I launched the game off Steam and I immediately started playing. I was having a blast! When I started the game I chose to be a Jet armour. He was able to fly and used energy weapons but had lower health than the other armours. Whenever I killed an ant it would have severe burns on the corpse and the corpse would never disappear. My friend said that they should disappear.

I beat the relatively short game on normal mode. It was a bit more blood than my friend said it actually was. He said that only the insects should have bled insect blood but my character also bled a little bit when he got hit.

I then started to play on the Hard difficulty. Now my friend knows I have a fear of wasps. Later on in the game wasps appear and impaled a citizen of the city with its stinger. The citizen started screaming as he normally would but he attracted more giant ants that went to devour him. The ants went on to tear his limbs off and started to bring the torso back into the giant anthill. It didn't look that realistic because I have an old graphics card.

Since I have played a lot of games like Dead Space and Fallout I thought this was part of the game. I just thought it was a bit weird at the time. I told my friend about that while playing it and he just thought it might have been part of the PC version since it wasn't on the Xbox 360 version he had. I probably didn't notice it on my first playthrough on the normal difficulty because I wasn't really paying attention to details like that. I naturally brushed it off since I have seen way worse in video games but still freaking me out a little bit.

Later on when the giant robots called "Hector Mark II" came up, it took big slow walks that shook the ground in every step. He shot his rockets towards me and I tried to dodge the rockets with my character but then one hit him and my characters legs blew off and my character's blood splatted out in all directions and my computer started to chug and the game crashed.

My friend heard me say something in frustration and asked what was wrong. I told him I didn't say anything but my legs are gone and the game crashed. He said that wasn't right because you could be revived in the game.

I launched the game again and it started back up normally. Since then none of the gory incidents happened until I got to the Inferno difficulty. My friend has had a lot of trouble on that difficulty on the Xbox 360 because it is so hard.

When I started the Inferno difficulty on the first mission, ticks, an enemy that shouldn't appear until later in the game, spawned and swarmed over my character and they all proceeded to explode as that's what they do normally. My character died and I was greeted with my characters severed head center on the screen next to ants trying to chew on it.

When I tried to restart the mission I was greeted with a horrible picture of a woman decapitated and nude down to her underwear surrounded by ants. I was shocked and I tried to take a screenshot with the Steam in-game overlay. The screenshot was successfully taken and I uploaded it to the Steam community. I reported this to Steam with the screenshot I took. They replied immediately saying that there is nothing wrong with the screenshot.

After that I stopped playing and I saved up money for a new graphics card so I could play Borderlands 2. After a while Borderlands 2 came out and I played that a bit.

I verified the game cache of Earth Defense Force to see if something was wrong with the game files. When it was done it said I was missing 3 files and would acquire those files. It took a couple seconds to download it. I launched it again thinking it was all OK since time has passed and the files have been fixed. I played Inferno again and everything seemed normal.

Until the wasps came up. The wasp proceeded to impale my character and when the wasp took out its stinger. I could clearly see my characters stomach and then its contents got dumped over my characters corpse and giant spiders proceeded to eat the contents of my characters stomach and his corpse.

I went to take another screenshot and right before I pressed the screenshot button my game crashed again and my desktop picture changed to a gruesome picture of a man with his stomach exposed and covered in spiders. The desktop picture quickly changed back to what it was right before I pressed Print Screen button. I still had that original screenshot still on the Steam Cloud and in my hard drive. I went back to check on the screenshot so I could show someone else other than Steam.

The screenshot turned into a normal picture of game play with my character driving a tank and the tank was upside down. I had a little chuckle and got really confused. That screenshot was the only screenshot I ever took. I thought maybe the screenshot file corrupted. I continued to play the game. It was normal until a Hector Mark II came up. It did a giant pound on the ground and it hit me. My character began to blow into chunks. I didn't want to try to restart the mission but I had to. The picture this time was a child chopped up and a hand holding a cleaver. I could clearly see the shadow of the person holding the cleaver. There was a jar of what appeared to be mechanized insects. The child's head was intact and look like it was crying a lot.

After that I uninstalled the game and have never launched that accursed game from Steam ever again. I told my friend all about what happened and asked if I took any screenshots. I told him I tried to, but the game just crashed. I still to this day have no idea how any of this could have happened since I downloaded it all from Steam.
