A Game.exe
It was a quiet day in my small, shady town that I hated. My life was incredibly boring as of this time, no friends, no video games (my parents disposed of them), and no family. My parents were abusive when I was younger, in one incident my dad actually punched me so hard in the face I had to go to the E.R with a broken nose and he lied about it, saying I fell and broke it.
I laugh now when I think back to it. But, on one day that seemed to surpass all other days in nothingness, I decided to search our relatively small house for things to do.
I was searching through our basement, attic, and my room but found nothing. I then decided to search my parents’ room. It smelled of cheap perfume, my mom just left for work. My dad was probably at the local pub getting wasted as usual. Note that I was seventeen at this time, so I had a car (Nissan Cherry from 1980) but it was pretty shitty, just Google it. Upon checking my parents’ misc. drawer with a bunch of useless crap in it, I was fed up. I pried the drawer out and threw it across the room.
I looked at all the contents and noticed something that caught my interest. It was a flash drive. On it, it simply said, "A Game". It was written on old white masking tape. On the other side it had another piece of tape.<.
It said, "DO NOT USE THIS!" It was in my dad's drunken chicken scratch hand writing. So I decided to insert it into my laptop which was pretty much my only friend at the time. This was my first mistake.
Upon inserting it, I was prompted with a window that had its name on the top with three files. Read me.Txt, Map.Jpg, and Input. I opened Read me.Txt and it was explaining a game. The rules were I had to locate a file but I had to do it in the form of a scavenger hunt. I opened up the Map file and to my surprise, it showed my town. On the map it had the location of the first USB which was in my backyard. I was ecstatic! I grabbed my laptop and ran outside.
After a few minutes of searching in my backyard, I moved over a large stack of rubbish and uncovered a small box. In the box was a drive, on it, there was a piece of tape reading, “you're half way there”. I put it into my computer and a picture flashed for about a couple of milliseconds. I didn't really think of it much. In it were two files, Map_2.jpg, and before.jpg. I clicked on before and it was a picture of a random woman. Her facial expression was not the average face or even a smile. She had a concerned look on her face and looked like she was about to cry. I was a little worried but continued. The map showed the second location being in a forest on the opposite side of town. I got in my car and drove down there.
Not too far into the forest, I found a small circle of stones which actually turned out to be a makeshift fire pit. Inside was the last USB, it was burned pretty bad but was still functional. Inside the USB were three files: Congragulations.txt, A_Game .exe, and after.jpg.
I clicked on Congragulations and it explained how I won the game and now I can start the "real game." I then clicked on the .exe file and had it install. While installing I opened up the file called “after.jpg”. My jaw dropped.
It was what I assume to be the woman from the first image, but she was nailed to a wall by her hands. Her face was bloody and mangled. Her left eye was dangling down the side of her face. Her abdomen was torn open in the middle showing her intestines, stomach, and what I presumed was her liver. I was sickened. I would have been more disturbed if I hadn't been a regular browser of r/wtf. I decided to get the hell out of the forest. I then drove home thinking of what was going on. Why did my parents have that USB?
Right when I got home I went into my room and saw that the .exe file was installed leaving a file called game on my desktop. When I clicked it a window popped up showing three links being labeled 1-3. I clicked on 1 and it showed an interview of a woman. The audio was muted and she was obviously scared. She then started to cry for about 6 minutes.
The screen then went black and white text came up saying, "Part 2." It then showed the most horrible sight I've ever seen; something that made me want to run far away from where I was. It showed the woman being horribly murdered. He took a needle and stabbed it in her right eye, then her left.
He then pulled out a knife and stabbed it into her stomach. I vomited onto the floor. He then slowly gutted the poor woman. The screen faded black and text came up saying, "fin." then it said you completed 1/3, finish the next 2 to win. I then grabbed my laptop and threw it out my window and grabbed the USB's and set them on fire outside.
After the whole incident I began to sob, this went on for a half hour or so until my dad got home. I then slowly approached him. He asked me what the hell I was crying about. I mentioned the USB. His face went pale and he went up into his room. He knew about what was on it. Then I heard some ruckus in his room, followed by a blast from his shotgun.
