It was a moderately warm night in the Midwestern region of the United States of America, which is known to have such climes as the one previously described. To further divulge this definition of 'warm' as to give the reader a better sense of the temperature, it was during the fall. This tidbit of information not only provides the reader with the idea that the warmth spoken of was a specifically fall warmth but it also conjures into mind the normal attributes of a fall setting. As to the endeavors of our protagonist, who is hereby named 'Frank', he was out on the streets of this Midwestern town during the moderately warm season of fall. Frank was a man of simple pleasures - which explains his walking of the streets, as that is not too complex of an activity - and had a rather simplistic view of life to accompany such an easily appeased mindset. Altogether, Frank was a simple man. As he walked the streets - in a gait none too fast nor too slow - he witnessed something which astounded the simple-minded Frank, as it was a scenario too complex for his understanding. Just down the street which he had been venturing to reach the end of, all of the street lamps - or, light poles - suddenly ceased to illuminate the road. Their primary function (to light streets) was no longer being accomplished! Frank was at a loss to explain this happening, as it was an event largely unusual, and was so frightened by this turn of events that he spun on his heel in a 180 degree counterclockwise rotation and began the journey to his home.
