Black-Coated NPCs

You know yesterday, maybe two days ago, when 1.9 prerelease came out? I downloaded and replaced minecraft.jar in the bin folder and launched the game hoping to see Mr. Testificate.

Now, I must admit that I never have been scared by anything. Silent Hill, all of Creepypastas here, or any of the horror movies I've seen, (those which are actually scary, none of those "Shaun of the Dead" or "Hostile" shit) they just didn't have an impact on me. So I entered the seed "gimmeabreak" which spawns you into village and created world.(you know that one)

I was greeted by an NPC in black coat which was pretty odd, because on screenshotss there were no black coated NPCs, only brown, pink or white. I was puzzled. Then I saw "Hello, fellow. Welcome to the secret test game". I was puzzled even more. "What the heck? I thought in 1.9 npcs aren't supposed to speak". I pressed enter, which I have binded to chat function (it feels more natural to me than T key), excepting it will do nothing as in normal SP game. Instead the chat area came out! Now, I know some mods like SPC can add such a feature, but it was pure vanilla minecraft 1.9 pre.

"Why do you speak?!? You're not supposed to. Not in this version D:" - I wrote.

"Those capitalized dumbasses don't speak, only I do"

Now I had seen that the "TESTIFICATE" over him was written in small leters instead of capitals. "This is odd", I thought. "But it's probably some creepy programming put here by Notch". I started to freak out.

"What are you doing there?" - I wrote.

"I should ask what *YOU* are doing here" - I saw.

"OK, then what am I doing there?"

"You'll see".

"Pretty cryptic chatbot", I thought.

"I'M NOT A CHATBOT!" - the NPC replied. But how? Did he read my mind or just Notch thought that'd be the most common reaction for such a chain of questions and answers and programmed it? After two to four seconds (which I spent on WTF thoughts), I saw on the screen:

"You were chosen specially for this test. Follow me.". I did what he wanted me to do, but when I saw him spawning a nether portal on the road, I refused to follow. Even though I didn't enter portal, I saw the "Entering Nether" screen. I spawned in the nether fortress, with no portal anywhere in sight, surrounded by black-coated, low-capped testificates.

"You'll meet your destiny now." - I saw in chat area. The in-game ground shake, which was odd because there are no earthquakes in MC, and from nearby sea of lava, the huge, 20 blocks in height at least dragon appeared. But it wasn't blocky one like you would expect from Minecraft. If I'd seen this on screenshot, I'd thought that someone photoshopped it with Dragon Age's or Sintel (one fucking great CGI movie, google it) dragon models. Someone might consider it real. It was really out of place. Now I was scared as hell.

I heard low-pitched, creepy voice in my headphones. It was actual speech, not chat one.

I WON'T EAT YOU. NOT NOW. BUT I AND MY SPECIES WILL COME TO EARTH SOON.

What the? - I spoken loudly, but dragon, which mouth was in perfect sync with it's speech started to speak again.

YOU'LL SEE US AGAIN. IN FEW YEARS. WE WILL *HELP* YOU ALL.

The accent was on the HELP word. I didn't know what he meant, and rather I don't wanna know. Then game the exited to the title screen. I entered the save again, and I was in normal world in village with normal NPCs, although the nether portal was still there. Upon entering it, I saw the same fortress, although I had a portal behind me and there were no black-coated NPCs' nor the dragon.

Ever since then I almost always see (in my dreams) the "We will HELP you ALL" sentence or dream about humanoid dragons (normal-sized) implanting some chip in my brain. I still have normal dreams, but they're pretty rare.

I took therapy but for some reason it's not very effective. I know that what I saw was either an example of Notch's humor or I might dreamed this whole thing as well, since after I inspected the weird save, I deleted it - in either case not real, but these dreams... They just can't go away.

So I put this as a warning - if you EVER see black-coated NPCs in 1.9 pre with low-capped "testificate" over them, QUIT TO TITLE AND DELETE SAVE. If you won't, you'll regret it. Just like me.

Some time passed. I've almost forgot about those NPCs. There are no "Testificate" text either anymore, so main trait (except black coat) is gone too. But recently my dreams, or nightmares rather became stronger. I had one of those "text dreams" except that instead "We will HELP you ALL" I saw "Play deleted save" text.

How could I play it since I've deleted it? Didn't know that... until I've boot up my Minecraft 1.1. Note I didn't stop playing MC, even after what I've been through. This was the first time when I was actually scared, and I liked it. Maybe something is wrong with me, I don't know. But we've got off topic here. Anyway, I boot my copy of Minecraft and clicked single player mode. Wasn't in the mood for SMP since I've had a great time with the PowerCraft mod recently and this mod doesn't have SMP version (yet) and when it will, there will be problems with finding SMP servers with it... at first anyway. I was very suprised when I saw my save which I thought I'd deleted.

And it was on the first position in the list, even though I've played many SSP maps since then (you must know one thing about loading saves in MC - most recently used save is always on the first place on the list). I was sure about that, because none of my saves were called "NPC TEST" since then.

"Let's think about it", I thought. "Last time, when I did play this world something weird happen. I probably didn't wet my pants because of the giant dragon only because I am rarely, except that situation, afraid of anything". I was about to click the second save, the one which I actually played recently, but I heard (yes I HEARD a voice saying "Play the lost save") [notice "the lost" instead "deleted" here]. And I wasn't hearing things, because my girlfriend came to my room asking who's there except me (the voice was very different than mine. It wasn't the dragon's voice, it was a normal one, but different). Then, after seeing that no one's there except me, she asks if I'm playing with voice changing software again. I confirmed (better say that than tell the truth, she wouldn't be able to comprehend the truth anyway and would most likely send me to white and comfy room).

So I decided to load the "NPC TEST" save. But instead spawning where I left, whereas Minecraft usually does, which was the Nether fortress, I spawned in a village, or rather city. For a while I felt like I was playing SMP. The reason was that city was just too big and there wasn't any of "standard" minecraft house models. There weren't any testificates here either, only normal player models with random skins (which were from Skindex, I believe). Well, there ALMOST almost no testificates - there were some black coats, only now they had "Dragon priest" over them. People had normal names over them (not nicknames like most MC players have, normal names like "Jack Johnson" "Emma Feen", etc., though some skins weren't normal since they seemed to be taken from Skindex at random). Note that some mods like Humans+ or Millenaire can add people or new buildings, but I have none of those mods installed and I'm pretty sure none of them add "Dragon priests" or removes normal villages (though technically it is possible). In both mods structures have to have time to develop and since I never played that save again since then, it was even weirder.

I went to explore it.

"Welcome again, <my minecraft nickname>" I saw in chat area when I passed by one of "Dragon priests". Still had no SPC installed, but pressed enter anyway hoping to interact with "priest" like I was able before.

"Hello, erm... priest" - I wrote. "WTFirework is going on here". (From now on M means my speech and DP Dragon priest's words)

DP: Watch your mouth, please.

M: I did -___-. I wrote "Firework" at the end of the abbreviation for a reason.

DP: Ahh... I see... Anyway, you've been chosen again.

M: I don't like it! D: I don't like dragons either Enderdragons or dragons like the one I've seen before in this deleted save.

DP: This save wasn't deleted.

M: What are you talking about, I've deleted it myself.

DP: Sometimes they are deep in dreams, I want to tell them, they are building true worlds in reality.

Chills went down my spine. That was one of the lines of "outro" that happens when you kill the Enderdragon and enter the portal. Maybe worlds that the players make are real? Maybe Minecraft is just a portal to alternate universes? And worlds continue to exist even when player supposedly delete them?

M: What do you mean?

I acted like I didn't know.

DP: You know exactly what I mean.

M: Yeah... I think I'll go now.

I pressed Enter, then i went to the pause menu and quit the game via the X in corner of the window. But before the game exited, I saw black letters on a white background in the MC window saying "Please come back soon. You have so much to learn."

I've decided I'll be back tomorrow. Now I need to think about it.

and then a skeleton popped out
