STILL UNDER PROGRESS!!!!

Dora the Explorer was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid, and I used to watch it almost every day. Even up until recently, I still liked to watch it every once in a while. Before I go on, to the silly people who have never heard of Dora the Explorer, I'll explain it to you quickly. The show revolves around Dora, a young girl who goes on many adventures with her monkey companion Boots, and her sentient backpack and map. They also try to evade the evil Swiper, a fox that wears a blue mask. And pretty much every episode follows the same formula: Dora and Boots need to do something, get stopped by Swiper and have to yell, "SWIPER! NO SWIPING!" to get him to go away, and then they get what they wanted. That again and again for some hundred-odd episodes. The show ran from 2000 to 2019, ending with the 2019 live-action film Dora and the Lost City of Gold.

I know, it sounds like it's just a dumb kiddy show, and it is, but I still absolutely loved it as a guilty pleasure. The show was something relaxing I liked to watch sometimes, and it was something nostalgic to remember those simpler days.

A few days ago, I came home early in complete anger. I had just gotten fired from my job, for no good reason at all. I wanted to cool down, so I plopped down onto my couch and turned on Nickelodeon, which was playing Dora the Explorer reruns at the time.

Still from beginning of the episode.

When I flipped to the channel, the show's intro was just finishing. The episode then opened with Dora standing in a tropical forest on a path facing the camera, but Boots was missing. I thought it was a little weird that Boots was missing, but I brushed it off. "Hola, soy Dora!" Dora said. Another thing that I noticed, her voice sounded different. Not by that much, but it didn't sound the exact same. It was subtle, sounding muffled and deeper, but still sounded the same overall, so I shrugged it off and thought maybe the voice actor was just sick or something when recording it. I didn't really notice much of this stuff at the time, though, I was still angry. "Today, I am going to go to my grandma's house. Can you help me get to her house? Great!"

It then panned to show two paths were shown: the path to Dora's right leading to a bridge over a river and the one to her left leading to nothing but deeper into the forest. "I need to get to the bridge. Which way do you think should I go?"

Still of the empty path.

She stared at me in silence for way too long, as she always did when she asked those stupid questions. What kind of idiot do you have to be to need that much time to answer such an easy question?! I could barely even enjoy the episode, I was so mad! "Left!" I yelled, though I knew it wouldn't matter.

"Left?" Dora said, confused. "If you say so. Let's go left!" and she walked to the right path. Immediately most of my anger was replaced with confusion. Why would she purposely go the wrong way? And the way she said it, like she was responding directly to me.

Before I had any time to think about that, the screen changed to a different shot of the path in the forest, without Dora. The sky was noticeably darker, the bright blue of it now a darker shade. It held like that for a few seconds, before it cut back to Dora, who was standing in front of three paths, each of them looking the exact same and leading to nothing.

"Hmm, I'm not sure which way we should go," Dora said, her usual cheery voice now mixed in with a hint of uncertainty. "I think we might be lost. I'm going to need your help. Which way do you think we should go? Left, right, or middle?"

"Middle?" I responded. I wasn't sure what would happen now. I had come to the conclusion that the part with her going down the wrong path must have been part of the episode, hence her saying that she was lost.

She paused again, and the silence followed, though I swore I could still hear something faintly that sounded like wind. I didn't respond.

At that point, I had almost completely forgotten my anger, now I only felt confusion. What was going on? I was sure I had never seen his episode before.
