Dot hack
Hello world, I thought I'd share something rather strange and probably even disturbing. It all started when I was looking for games to play on my hacked PSP. One day, I was browsing through 4Shared when I found a file called DOTHACKBETA (PSP).rar. Being a fan of the .hack// series it piqued my curiousity so I decided to download it and place it on my Memory Stick Duo, When I booted the PSP system, it appeared read the game normally but the strange thing was that it was unnamed and the thumbnail showed what looked like Kite in some type of torture room. It almost seemed like something out of a horror flick. I sort of ignored it as I pressed the X button to start the game. After the game loaded the screen was black for about 30 seconds until static suddenly appeared after the screen went into an animated sequence. The animation was in Japanese with English subtitles and went something like this.
(It has been years since Shugo last played The World. His sister, Rena, passed away because of a fatal disease widely known as Cancer. The cause which lead to her death remains unknown. Many believe that an evil Vagrant AI named Kohaku, who tried to steal Shugo's Twilight Bracelet, had placed a hex on Rena. It was such a depressing day that Shugo could not bear the burden of being a Twin Blade any longer since he lost the one person he truly loved the most. He still remembers all the pain, all the sorrow, all the grief from her final day and her final words before she let out her last breath.
Rena: "Shugo... I'm sorry that we couldn't... spend the rest of our lives... together... I was really looking forward to growing up with you but never forget. I'll always love you..."
Since then Shugo started going back to his old hobbies and enjoyed his life once more as a normal kid. Eventually time would mend his wounds until one day he wondered how his old friends were doing and decided to check up on them. Right away, he put on his FMD, picked up the controller and booted ALTIMIT OS on his computer. However, instead of a usual loading screen Shugo was taken straight to the town of Mac Anu. Everything seemed normal at first but then Shugo noticed something strange. First off, there were no people to be found in sight. Even the chatbox appeared to be empty. Secondly the water wasn't moving, neither did the sky. It felt like time had frozen. Third, Shugo tried to log out and see if he could contact CC Corp to report the error but failed. A puzzled yet frustrated look formed across his face.
Shugo: "Damn. What's wrong with this thing?! and where's everyone? I can't even log out. I hope this isn't a sick joke..."
Shugo kept wandering around as he let out a sigh. He would then head over to where the Cross Gates would be and warp to another area in The World but the Cross Gates weren't even there.
Shugo: "Eh? This is weird. They were here last time."
Shugo would try to send a message to his friends as he checked out the menu, it seemed to function like normal. He highlighted the cursor over the options until he reached his choice but once he tried to choose the mail option, it refused his choice. He tried again, nothing. He tried with other choices. Still nothing. Shugo grew more irritated with the broken menu and was about to ragequit. Upon exiting the menu, he heard a voice of a familiar girl. However the voice sounded rather synthesized and distorted instead of human.
"SHHHUUUUUuuuuUUuggGOOoooOOoooo..."
His eyes widened lightly as he slowly turned back to see who it was. He would see what appeared to be Rena.
Shugo: "Rena? Is that really you?"
Shugo's eyes watered as he wrapped his arms around his sister and held her close. However, Rena pulled away without even moving her hands or feet.
Rena: "ShhUUUuugGOOoo... wWwHhHyyY?"
Shugo almost fell down hugging the empty space where Rena stood. He then frowned in confusion.
Shugo: "Wait a minute, you're not Rena! She died years ago! What's the meaning of this? WHO ARE YOU?!"
Rena didn't respond as she moved backwards while being still. Shugo decided to follow her. Rena moved faster in an erradic pattern with Shugo merely tagging along. Suddenly she stopped and spoke.
Rena: "WwWHhhy...? dDdiidD yYYou... lLLEeeaAVve...?"
Shugo: "HEY! I should be asking that question. Listen, I don't know who or what you are but just STOP IT!"
Rena: "........."
Rena then went inside a house still moving as she did before. Shugo bumped his face into the wall. From then on he knew something wasn't right. A door suddenly appears and Shugo opens it. Once inside, it's all pitch black then the door suddenly shut and was locked by itself. Shugo flicks on the light switch. The room was barely visible with very dim lighting. Since there was no way out, Shugo went to the other room. It looked like a kitchen only that there were headless bodies sitting down as if they had dinner. Shugo became utterly queasy the moment he saw the corpses as he nearly vomited. He noticed another room in the kitchen, he went inside it. He looked around and there seemed to be nothing. Then a textbox suddenly appeared and it said "below." As suggested, Shugo looked down and saw multiple severed heads with their eyes gouged out, mouths wide open and covered in blood. Some of these heads even were his old friends like Ouka, Hotaru and Zefie. Shugo gasped loudly and covered his mouth. Then Rena appeared once again.
Rena: "Ii'mMm SSSssooOOorrRRYyyy..."
Shugo: "You killed them, didn't you?"
Rena nods and said nothing more. She then closed her eyes as her flesh begin to melt which reduced her to nothing more than a sketelon. What was left of Rena suddenly pulled out her Heavy Blade and pointed it at Shugo. Rena's voice changed to a horrible yet unidentifiable tone.
Rena: "I want us to be together forever, Shugo. Even in death..."
Shugo had engaged in battle, but unfourtnately his HP was very low as he glowed red. He tried to use healing items but none were available then a demonic laughter was heard.
Rena: "Hahahahaha, it's no use."
Shugo then remembered about his item that Aura gave to him. In a last ditch effort, He aimed his Twilight Bracelet at the skeleton as it started glowing.
Shugo: "Data... DRAI-"
Suddenly, his Twilight Bracelet shattered as Aura appeared behind in front of him. Something was different about her but Shugo's vision began to get blurry so he couldn't make out the differences.
Shugo: "Aura? Is that you? Please help me!"
Aura: "I'm not who you think I am. The Aura you knew died when you left The World. It's time you answered for your sins, Shugo. NOW BEGONE! "
Shugo's HP was drained to 0. Everything faded away to black once again.
Shugo: "Is this really... the end?"
All of a sudden, Shugo was taken back into the real world. Except that he was still in his player avatar. Shugo looked around as he was in his room he then noticed that his own lifeless body was before him However, his body appeared to be crying. Shugo then pats its shoulder and lifts its head towards facing him but it's eyes were now just empty holes while his tears were made out of blood.
Shugo was now both frightened and confused more than ever. Just when he was about to run, his own mom stepped in and charged at him.
Shugo's mom: "You bastard! What have you done to my son?!"
Shugo tried to convince her otherwise but it was too late. He fell off the window and then suddenly into a coffin. He was now six feet under as the ground started to buried and the coffin started to close. He struggled to break free but a mysterious zombified hand prevented him from escaping the impending doom. Shugo screamed at the top of his lungs and he kept screaming until he was completely buried underground and sealed inside within a coffin. Shugo was now dead and no one has ever heard from him since. Some say he died from playing The World too much, others say it was an accident. One thing was sure, Shugo and Rena where finally together... no longer apart and alone...)
After that, my PSP faded to a black screen. I was mortified at what I'd just seen as my hands were shaking rapidly. I exited the game, then I pressed the Triangle button and went on to deleting the game on my PSP. I immediately went back to 4Shared to report the file and within weeks the dreaded file was finally gone. So if anyone wants to look for it, don't bother.
