Harvest Moon: Murder Island
It started innocently enough.
I've always been a harvest moon fan ever since the Nintendo 64 version. While some I found mediocre I enjoyed most of them including the spinoffs aside from a couple. I had every Harvest moon but one on the Nintendo DS. Harvest moon: Sunshine Island. I had not gotten it when it came out because I didn’t have the cash at the time. So sometime later I was at a local game store and found a used copy with the case and all at a fair price i decided to buy it. After leaving the store and heading home I put Sunshine Island in and started it up. The game started normal with the Natsume logo and the Nintendo logo. I found 1 save from pretty much from the last owner but ignored it and started my own game. The normal character selection of male or female popped up and I choose my character to be Male and named him Marco. When I started the game some of the locals came and greeted me as a normal harvest moon game would. Once I had control of my character I looked around the town. But I noticed something odd. When I zoomed the lower screen map all the Islands where raised. This struck me as odd because from what I had been reading about the game you had to raise different islands. I face palmed and shook my head knowing that it could only mean one thing. A hacked version of Sunshine islands. I sighed and decided to play anyway thinking I’d play it like a normal Harvest moon. So I started a normal routine making small 3x3 plots and planting the starting seeds, Meeting all the villagers and checking out the different islands. Only 5 in game days after I started did the horror begin.
The 5th day started out normal with my character waking up and me gaining control. I went outside and Taro the mayor was outside. I figured it was a tutorial of some kind. But I was wrong..... Dead wrong. Taro told my char that Gannon the guy who apparently adds on to your house was killed last night. A cut scene showed and Taro took me to Gannon’s house. Inside Gannon was on his bed a sickle was driven into his chest from the look of things. His daughter Eliza was crying. Taro then turned to my character and said that he would like my help finding out who the killer was. My character nodded and I took control outside of gammons house. Once again I face palmed and sighed. Thinking what kind of person would make such a hack. But I went on in curiosity to see if it would continue.... it did. Only 2 days later another murder happened this time it was Felicia, Taro's Wife. A cut scene occurred and we were at Taro's house looking at Felicia’s now lifeless body. Once again the murder weapon was a sickle. Then it was every Day someone was murdered. Always with the same tool a sickle. Soon one day a cut scene occurred and Taro said that several people where leaving the island outta total fear but when I arrived at the docks the only boat that traveled to and from Sunshine island was destroyed making it now impossible to leave the islands. The murders continued. Until the 3rd Day of the 2nd season when all that was left was my character Marco and Taro. Taro arrived at my house saying there’s nothing left of the island and quickly blamed my character for all the murders. My character shook his head but taro didn’t believe him. Taro left in a Rage saying "If you’re going to kill me You might was well do it while imp sleeping, JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHERS YOU PSYCHO!"
The day ended there and when My character woke up and went to Taro's house. Obviously to try to talk with Taro about it. Marco went inside. A question Mark appeared over his head from my guess taro didn’t respond. Macro looked around and soon found Taro dead in his bed with a sickle as the murder weapon. The screen Flashed white and the harvest goddess then spoke to my character and said "Come to my island quickly I have something to tell you." A cut scene showed and my character traveled using the smaller motor boat used to travel to the nearby islands. He walked to the goddess pond and the screen flashed white and the Harvest goddess appeared. But instead of her normal white outfit, It was black, when here character icon appeared here eyes where crimson red. a Message appeared and it said "You did well tool I was tired of watching over these idiots on this island. But I couldn’t do anything myself but when you arrived I knew you were the prefect one for me to use." then a sickle appeared over her head and the blade was red. This was the obvious murder weapon. "Each night I took control of you and used you to kill the villagers one by one. Now that they are all dead you will have to die as well." The screen flashed white and my character was lying on the ground with the sickle in his back. Then the game cut to black and the bottom screen showed red text say "GAME OVER"
I turned off my DS took the game out and put it in the case. I couldn’t believe someone would make a horrible hack like this. But I shrugged and figured a rare hacked Harvest moon and decided to keep it I spent the money might was well. I pulled out the cover art and with a pen wrote on the side label.
