Pokémon Eerie Emerald
It was a rainy day, as my favorite show airing in my television, Pokémon. I am and always will be a huge Pokémon fan, but after these events I still wonder...wonder if I should continue on. As Pokémon, continues to roll on, I reminisce of the past on how fun it was to play the original games and ask myself if I should go but one. I ask mother her reply was stunning due to that she never says yes. "Sure Honey, I know times have been rough and since you have not asked anything for awhile why not?"
We leave to the nearest GameStop and ask the clerk for a copy of Pokémon Sapphire. They did not have any so I asked for Emerald. Indeed, they had the game and he went to the back of the store to get one. He comes back with the green cartridge. We paid for the game and I was off on my new Pokémon adventure.
I quickly got home and inserted the Pokémon Emerald Cartridge to the DS Game boy Player. Right away as the GAMEFREAK Logo comes up, I had to go to bathroom. I left and came back with the title screen of the game. This time however, the logo appeared to have a different shadow of Rayquaza. Instead, it showed a figure of a Houndoom and the background was a deep red color, almost crimson. Thinking it was just a little damaged, I pressed on.
Similar start up; Professor Birch was explaining the world of Pokémon. I grabbed the Pokémon that I wanted, which was a Treecko. As always, my rival wanted a battle, so I left to go catch up to her. When I did, she was looking towards the forest instead of me waiting for my arrival. I mashed the "A" button, but nothing happened. After about 3-4 Minutes she answered, " My Precious Torchic, what has this creature done to you! Light! (Light is what I called my character) What is the matter with you? Have you not seen a death before?" It asked me to select Yes or No. I pressed "No", once I did, a battle engaged.
It was me versus Sina (What I called my rival). Assuming that the game has fixed itself, I did not question it until she summoned out her Torchic. Torchic had no eyes and was missing her beak. What replaced these were blood splatters and a weird smile on Torchic's face that was evil-like. Scared, I turned off my DS, and took the cartridge out of my DS.
Several days have passed and I was getting bored, so I chose to continue playing Pokémon Emerald. Everything loaded fine and it looked normal. As I reached Sina again, I decided to battle her Torchic if it went wrong again. It did, with Torchic was more messed up than I thought.
I noticed that my Treecko's move were Shadow Sneak and Snatch. I used Snatch and saw that after the animation has taken place, the text read:
"Treecko has taken Torchic's Legs"
When this happened, Torchic's legs went missing and the legs were replaced with bones, and of course, blood.
I knew if I turned it off, nothing was going to change the game , so I continue forward. Torchic used Destiny Bond, which was weird to me at the time since Torchic can't learn that move. I used Snatch once again, but nothing happened. It went straight to Torchic using Destiny Bond again. I used Shadow Sneak this time. (I then realized that Shadow Sneak was not a move until Diamond and Pearl) No animation happened but the text read which I was assuming was Sina:
"HAHAHA I will get you, NO, He will get you!"
I was terrified at this point but some way and some how, the curiosity kept me going. Torchic then used "Perish Song", with that, the text read, "Everyone will??? In 2 Turns" I once again used Shadow Sneak and the same text appeared except Die was not there any more. "Torchic committed suicide", the text read. As soon as I pressed the "A" button, music from Meteor Falls began to play.
The battle was over.
At least that is what I thought; "Treecko has died because of Perish Song" I was now frightened, in that my Treecko did not faint, but died in a lonesome environment. Meteor Fall music continued to play for a little more with only my trainer sprite at my side of the field. Finally a text box appeared with Lavender Town music playing now."
You see fellow trainer, I destroy kind's that are here to cause havoc across my land! You will end here with the cry of Torchic that has set your fate. Goodbye Light or Jan " 0_0 WTF came in my mind as how Lavender Town music was in Pokémon Emerald and how this mysterious character knew who I really was.
The screen said its final words:
" ... ... ... ... ... hahaha. Yeah, that white hand on your shoulder. It's not real "
A Houndoom came up all of sudden and I turned off my DS.
I've not once touched that game cartridge for a while now. I still can't get that Torchic off of my mind and how that Houndoom or that thing knew who I really was. I decided to investigate. Even though it was a hack and how the overall objective of it was to scare the person playing. I just still could not get how he or she knew my name.
I go to the GameStop in which I purshased it and told the clerk on what has happened. The clerk was male and said that it must've been from some college students that came by there a few days ago with Emerald before I got it. I asked the clerk if he remembers anything about them. He pronounced: "One of them actually looked like you and the others had a pale skin tone with them,almost ghost-like" Either A. the clerk is lying to me or B. He was telling the truth and the person who looked like me is my brother who is in College. B was my final thought. When I was going to exit the store, the clerk which by the name is Josh told me that he was just joking and that he did not remember how the college kids looked like. I left the store with angry and sad face.
I wanted to find out what was in store if I continue to go through the whole process, I turned that DS on with that cartridge ready to "suck" out my soul. It loaded like it did before, I keep forgetting to save the data before I get to Sina. So I had to restart everything. I clicked NEW GAME but was greeted diffrently, instead of a Birch talking it was a Pokemon. A Grumpig. Now the creator of this thing was messing with my head. My favorite pokemon is infact Spoink and Grumpig. Grumpig said what Birch was suppose to say. When it asked me or suppose to ask me about my rival's name it just stated: "We already know who your rival's name is it's Sina or I like to call Lord" That was strange. Then again it was just a hack.I hoped. Everything went like it was suppose, except Birch was an overworld sprite of a Grumpig. I get to the rival battle and saw Sina gone.
I search everywhere and still had no luck finding here. I then see a dark figure run across the Pokemon Center (That is where I was at) To my suprise, the Pokemon Center was dead. I mean DEAD, their was blood everywhere and the NPC were lying down which I guess was suppose to be dead. I exit the Center to see Mareeps stained in blood. They blocked my way out of the Center. I interacted it with the one in front of me and is stated: "Lord will be here in any minute just wait." Strange but it was a sign of relif that this nightmare or hack was going to end. Sina appeared with a pack of houndor's following her. She then said: "Kill him" Not even a second later, my Pokemon, Treecko came out of it's Pokeball and protected me. The Treecko went in front me and the houndoor's attacked.
All you heard was Treecko's constant cry. I felt ashamed that I let them fight him all alone. I could have just simply turned off the game. (Side Note: I'm really caring about my pokemon on every game so to this was dramatic) After about 3 or 4 minutes, they stopped fighting and Treecko's sprite was gone, and all that replaced it was some blood. Sina said: "Now Now, Settle down their is enought for everyone. I wanted to show you how it feels to lose a Pokemon and how when fainting a Pokemon can hurt." What the hell was this chick saying? Am I a Bad Trainer? I really did not know. Sina then left with her pack of Houndor's and a Houndoom came up with a Mightyana and engaged in a battle. I did not want to see what will happpen and I guess the game did not either. The game froze and all you saw at the end was Houndoom and Mightyana in one side and I in other, with a sad look.
I turned off my DS and threw the cartridge in the lake behing my house. It was floating for awhile until I saw it on the shore all destroyed the next day. I will never forget the Treecko. nor the Evil Torchic or how the game knew who I was.
