Silent Hill from Recycler

Alright. In 2008 my uncle bought a game on my PSP called Silent Hill. I absolutely loved it, and he proceeded to lend me his copy of Silent Hill.

Silent Hill 2 came out once I had finished it. My PSP had broken by this time, as it was bought from a friend for $50. After playing Silent Hill for the next 'I-don't-know-how-long', it got boring. I started to search the internet for the video game, coming across one on Recycler. It was advertised 'SILENT HILL 1 FOR PS1 FOR SALE: GAME DISK ONLY, SOLD AS IS' I took a look at it and, seeing as the price was $2, bought it. Two weeks later I got the game, and it was in pretty bad condition. It was an Imation CD-R with the words 'Silent Hill 1' on the right side of the top. Shady, I thought as I flipped the disk. The bottom of the CD had horrible scratches on it. There were also some black scribbles, like there was already something written on it. I decided to take the disk and try to play it. The menu screen came up immediately, no loading screens or the little video you would get with the actual game. I also noticed that the only two options on the menu were, well, 'Options' and 'Load Game'. I owned other Playstation games so there was a memory card in the second slot. I hit Load Game. There was one file on the card apparently, 'HELL'. I loaded it and started playing. It started with the video in the beginning of the game, like any other SH. After Harry swerved though, music started playing. The music was like something Akira would've made, but screams and screeching ricocheted back and forth between my speakers, left to right and back again. This freaked me out, considering how many times I had played this game as a kid. I also started being able to control Harry right in front of the alleyway. He was turned towards the screen. I turned him and he took on his own movements. The man began running, and fast, towards the gate. The gate opened as he ran through, the dog eas bloody and on the floor as the first time I remember playing. I was desperately trying to gain control of Harry again. He was running, seeming to get faster with every step. Harry fell. He sprawled, his head hitting the brick wall in front of him. The head was suddenly gone. Blood spewed and spewed from Harry's neck. Then the cutscene where he wakes up in the hospital with Lisa looking at him played. The scene was gritty, and the speech sounded garbled and backmasked. The subtitles were symbols, like the game was corrupted. Something happened that I couldn't believe. Lisa's character began to drip, like the game file for her character crashed. She started to put her head in her hands and the colors came back, except she actually started to drip, like she was a monster being attacked. Blood was streaming down her head and her hands, her hat suddenly gone, her jacket completely red. I regained control of my character as I stood in front of a chair, her droning around the room like a nurse. I walked to the door, her not seeming to notice. When I got out I was in the shopping district, outside of the police station. The radio I had was blaring too loud to be normal. Harry ran in the direction of the sound, getting louder and louder until a romper attacked him. Here's the part that freaked me out the most. When it jumped, it didn't just jump on Harry, it swung out as it fell on top of him. He fell and the monster proceeded to rip at his chest with its claws. This went on for about a minute, then the screen went black. I stared at my reflection for a second before the screen went white and faded to show Harry's corpse being ravaged by a couple of dogs. The scene stopped like it was paused, but instead of saying paused, it said GAME OVER in plain white letters. I pressed Start, realizing that nothing was happening. I was going to turn off the console before hearing something very faint. It was crying, sounding like a woman's. The screen started flashing pictures of symbols, and I saw where the crying was coming from. A woman in a red jacket and nurses' hat had her hands in her head. The screen started to bleed, it seemed, and the crying became weeping. The word HELL flashed across the screen, showing a picture of Harry's corpse again. I turned the system off at that point. I'm going to destroy the disk. It's just too scary to me.

I left out a piece of information. I had a capture card in the PlayStation, but I only managed the picture of Harry getting attacked by the romper. I've decided to keep the disk, considering how curious I had been since I last played it. Other than that, I ripped the sounds from the intro movie, along with a picture of Harry about to attack Lisa and the error message, all with the capture card...

The files were just as I had left them, except there was a new file, YOU. I tried loading HELL. An error message popped up; ERROR: HELL IS CORRUPTED. It made a loud sound as well, scaring me even more than I was already. I loaded YOU. The screen and everything was the same as before, except for the music. It was screeching, like metal, but also like it was extremely far away from the microphone. There was a monotonous banging, like on a trash can. Boom boom, screeching. The crash ensued. I found Harry in front of the hospital. It was dark and music was playing in the background. The music seemed to be backmasked and bassy. I realized as the sequence played out that the music got darker and heavier and the screen was sort of fading from the natural colors to static. There was unbelievably loud rumbling coming from my speakers. The colors seemed to be corrupted, or just distorted to the fullest extent of the word. I could control Harry. A steady pounding played, extremely distorted and loud. I also managed to record part of it as well. As far as the gameplay goes, it went fairly smooth, no sporadic running or anything. It was like I was playing an original pressing of the game. The colors were still corrupted however. Harry was patched with greens and reds in lines and pixels. After a while the patches began to pixelate to reds in varying shades. There was a green flash as I realized I was in the hospital. Lisa was sitting on air in front of me.

The camera panned out as she put her head in her hands. Her speaking was garbled and again sounded backmasked. She flashed and came back in patches of reds and oranges. The sprite stood up and ran at Harry like a nurse. I regained control of him and attacked with the pipe. As soon as the pipe landed on Lisa she began to scream. It was by far the loudest thing I'd ever heard from my television. The screen started to flicker and the green and red lines and pixels reappeared on Harry. I was in a white space. I pushed the up button to move him forward. The camera angle shifted so it was right in front of him, around his shins, and the death animation played out. Black spots started to appear on the screen. Once the entire screen was black, the game seemed to crash, the speakers emitting a loud static and the screen going red in patches. The word HELL flashed quickly in black and white on the red, the static getting louder. It was at that point I decided to run to the game and turn it off.

I've made the decision to brave this. Anything else that happens I'll post on here.
