Spore Stuck Dead Glitch

I've been playing Spore on and off since it first came out, but this was a new one on me. I was playing in the creature stage with only one other creature of my type in my posse. The other two had died already. I was pretty much just slaughtering my way across the map because I don't do it very often. I ran across a nest of creatures that I hadn't found yet, but they were a bit out of my league and killed me pretty quickly.

Now, whenever you die in the creature stage, the game gives you a bunch of cutscenes before it lets you play again. You can press escape like three or four times to get through them. Well, I was frustrated from shoddy EA programming and in a hurry, so I just hammered escape a few times. Instead of respawning back at my nest, I found myself still laying on the ground, at full health, dead with flies buzzing around me and everything ignoring me. My one posse member was hanging out near my corpse(?), and everything was ignoring him, too.

Alt-tab over to Google, and apparently, this is just a thing that happens from hitting escape too many times or too quickly or something. Thanks, EA. The Sporewiki also mentioned that saving your game at that point wouldn't actually bring you back, and you'd have to delete the whole world. So here I am, haven't saved in over two hours, since I first arrived at this stage, with the choice between losing all my progress or waiting to see if I can starve to death and respawn again, potentially losing my progress anyway.

I never really got to the making-up-my-mind part. As soon as I got back into the game, I saw my posse member had been killed, and every species I had slaughtered during the course of the game, about two dozen I think, were gathered around my character's body, staring at me. Not at my character, mind you. At me. And behind them, those pink bastards that killed me were still wandering around like nothing was happening.

I don't know how long I stared at this, trying to make sense of it, but I finally exited to the main menu. I clicked on my world just to double check that it hadn't saved without my knowledge, but it hadn't. I logged back in on my fresh-from-the-water just-got-his-legs creature, took two steps out of my nest, and my entire species was immediately slaughtered by those same two dozen assorted creatures. They gathered around my corpse and started staring at me again.

Now, my heart is pounding, and I've got goosebumps. Exit to main menu, click on world again, get loaded into the same scene I just left. This time, I get a popup saying "Your species has been driven to extinction." I clicked on the green check and was shoved back to the main menu. I clicked on my world one last time, but my creature was just a black outline, and the only option was to delete the world. I did so, and then stared at the menu for a while before quitting the game completely.

I'm a little too nervous to play Spore, now.
