Super Meat Boy Prototype 8195

On July 22nd 2009, I was able to get my hands on a prototype copy of the indie platformer game Super Meat Boy after it was accidentally listed on an obscure game website that listed the game 1 year early

The real disc was only a burnt disc with "Meat Boy" at the top and "Do not share!!!" at the side of it, as well as "Prototype 8195" at the bottom of the disc.

As I expected since this was a prototype disc, the cutscene had some minor changes. It didn't have a box around the text, and sound effects are used that weren't included in the final game.

The start was normal and everything was working perfectly. The Forest was the only accessible chapter since I'm assuming the rest of the chapters weren't finished at the time. However, only 3 levels were accessible, the boss included. I thought it was weird but like I said multiple times, it's a prototype disc and the levels probably weren't finished at the time.

The levels were extremely different and the animations of Dr. Fetus taking Bandage girl at the end of each level were much more violent.

But at the boss fight, there is actual forest fire that isn't present in the final, and instead of Meat Boy's usual sprite, it is instead replaced with a sprite of him being burnt alive.

At the end of the boss, there is another cutscene of Meat Boy confronting Dr. Fetus. However, he fails in getting back Bandage Girl as Dr. Fetus pushes him in lava, causing him to burn to death. He lets out a bloodcurdling scream. At the end of the cutscene he pushes Bandage Girl into the lava which causes her to burn to death as well. She lets out a loud scream. It goes back to the title screen abruptly, this time not showing Meat Boy. When you press the start button the game crashes and thus becoming inaccessible. I was pretty confused about what I just saw and therefore contacted the website that I got the disc from about it, but to no avail. They never responded and ever since that incident I preserved the disc in a box full of old stuff.

I have no plans of ripping the ROM or even sharing it to the general public.
