Line 3:
Donny Hunter: Detective Extraordinaire locks up criminals at a glance, can solve a case in moments, and gets ALL the ladies. He keeps criminals off the streets just by being alive, for they cowered at the thought of the great Donny Hunter bearing down on them. His brilliant white smile can light up the darkest of nights. A pseudo superhero at worst, he is undeniably the best detective/womanizer ever.
Donny prepared his supplies for the trip. Toothbrush, toothpaste, sunglasses, dust, tape, an oversized magnifying glass and other assorted detective tools.
Line 27:
Another detective and a friend of Donny's drove him and Nat to the Vancouver Airport. They were a little late to get there, so Nat left quickly, her heels clopping on the pavement.
Nat urged Don to run as their plane was about to leave.
On the plane, there wasn't much amiss. They watched Taxi for their in-flight movie.
The flight itself was only a couple of hours, but Donny got so little sleep, as he normally did before a case, that he dozed off in the middle of the movie. Another thing that happened before a case, was he dreamed. This time he dreamed of the family that was murdered – A single mom and her two daughters, one ten and the other twelve – and their killer. What kind of sick freak would do such a terrible thing? Even though Donny hadn't seen any pictures of the scene - he liked to see it in person before deducing anything – he had been told over the phone by the Stoneberry police chief that it was pretty gruesome.
Line 55:
He sneaks around, surveying the area. He checks around for anything expensive, but this is a poor family, so he doesn't expect much. He makes sure to keep the light off to avoid rousing suspicion from the neighbours or the family themselves. His knee finds the coffee table and makes a loud thud.
A faint whisper,
She slowly creeps her way to the door. It makes a creaking noise as she opens it. The girls wince.
Katie stuck her foot out, testing each floorboard before stepping, so she didn't make a sound. That's when she heard it. A creak, like someone shifting their weight. She froze, dead in her tracks. Someone was there, standing just down the hall. She could hear his breathing from the crack in the door.
Line 75:
The intruder takes a slow step. Katie gasps, then stops herself. He takes another step. He turns on the spot, silent as a cat, and places his hand on the mother's room door handle. He turns it slowly.
The man then pushes the door open slowly. Waiting for that scream of terror as the woman realizes that there is an intruder. He turns his head towards Katie and for a moment she could make out every detail of his face. He was slightly unshaven, he had wide pupils and dark eyes. The scariest feature of all was the wide grin on his face. It almost reminded Katie of a clown at a circus. The man pushes the door open all the way.
Line 81:
There it is, the gasp.
The man doesn't say anything. He takes the last few steps, and pounces on his prey like an animal. He pins her down with his legs and breathes into her face.
The woman screams with terror. It turns Katie and Ashley's blood cold. The man cuts the mother's chest open, enjoying the blood that slips out. He licks his blade once before plunging the knife back into the woman's body over and over again. She is completely incapacitated and can only scream for her life.
Katie and Ashley are too scared to move. The killer finishes off his first prey, and begins a slow walk, making sure to include a loud thud with every step. He licks his lips, and thrusts open the bedroom door. The girls scream. Katie and Ashley are huddled in the corner together with Teddy, both crying. There's nowhere they can run; they're trapped between the only exit and their maker.
The man jumps to the corner and grabs Katie by the hair. He cuts just along the hairline until her entire scalp comes off. Blood spills everywhere and covers the sheets and blankets of Katie's bed. Both Katie and Ashley are screaming the whole time. The man continues to slice and stab her all over. Katie tries to squirm away, but can feel her life slipping away. Before she passes, she utters,
The man laughs. This was completely worth the month-long wait. He looks down at the helpless girl below him, clutching her beloved sister with wet eyes. He disembowels the sisters, and leaves their remains all over the toys, bedding and floor. He makes sure he tracks as much blood through the house with his shoes as possible.
Line 101:
Donny woke with a start. He was drenched in sweat, and was clammy all over.
The rest of the journey was uneventful. They taxied to Stoneberry (To Donny's displeasure), then met up with the other detectives at the police station.
The chief was a tall man. He was in his mid forties, and had just a touch of grey. He was average build and you could tell he wore his badge with pride.
Nat rubbed his back,
The three of them went to the Samuels' house to examine the crime scene. On the walk there, they continued to discuss the family, but nothing of any use came up. Don took note of how much Flemming knew about them.
Line 147:
They started in the downstairs. They couldn't find much other than bloody shoe prints leading from upstairs.
Don took the pictures. They were exactly the same as his dream. This had happened before. His dreams had always been his secret weapon to solving a case. They always showed him the scene of the death the night before he arrived on the case. He just told people some bogus theory that
Donny passed the pictures to Nat,
The scene was gruesome. Blood and organs were smeared all over the walls and littered the hall way. They stepped into the mother's bedroom first. Apparently, Don's dream didn't show everything.
Line 159:
All the sheets were coated in blood. The smell of death was in the air. The aroma of the blood put a metallic taste in Don's mouth. The blankets and sheets were in disarray, showing that there was a struggle. There were spatters of blood on the wall.
They head down the hallway. Their feet creaked on the hardwood floor. Nat slipped slightly.
Nat broke down. The sight was just too much. She hugged Don like they were lovers.
Flemming opened the closet door. This was the worst of all. Eyeballs, fingers and toes of the victims were placed in a strange array that looked somehow beautiful, though creepy. The weeks worth of rotting flesh stained their noses. Nat looked a though she was going to pass out. Even though they were experienced detectives, they had never experienced something so... just terrible.
They wrestled on the ground for a moment, and covered each other in the drying blood. Don was able to throw a couple of punches, but Flemming was in a blood lust. He bit onto Don's shoulder and wouldn't let go. When he went to get Flemming off of his shoulder, he let go of Flemming's knife hand. Flemming immediately took this advantage to stab Don in the back. He stabbed him multiple times, making a sickening shlick sound. Don grunted and rolled off of Flemming.
