In the 1980's, there was a controversy about the flag at the end of SMB. The picture on the flag, wich mario pulls ''down''', '''''was thought to be a peace sign. Thus, this appeared to represent mario bringing down peace. But this is not true. The poor graphics were the problem. The picture was accually a green koopa shell, which is one of the enemies Bowser (the game's main antagonist) sent out to attack. So, Mario was bringing down the flags of the evil koopas.
