C A EXE

There I was. As a little kid. Casually drawing things on my computer like I always do...Well, did.

I didn't know that that day would be the last time I went near a computer....Or anything, for that matter.

A few months before the...event, my mom had bought me a computer from a garage sale without spending thousands on it. Hell, she was quite surprised when the person selling it said in a fearful voice that she could have it for free, and that he hated it and just wanted it gone.

When she got home, she gave it to me, and I IMMEDIATELY fell in love with it. It had a lot of drawing apps, and when I saw all of them, I KNEW that I would never get rid of this computer. I was on it every single day, drawing as many pictures as I could. I'm surprised the computer didn't lag or crash. It was a touchscreen computer, which made it easy to use my fingers to draw what I wanted. Sure, I had to clean the screen every day, but it was worth it...It's not worth it now, of course.

Not after what happened.

One day, I was just drawing random things like I always do, since I had nothing else to help me pass time. I then saw a color palette that really struck my fancy. It was called "C.A.EXE," which was...Strange, but I didn't care about the name. All the colors were just so...Perfect to me. So, I decided to try and use it, but a pop-up appeared.

"You need administrator's permission to purchase this."

It didn't make sense, since I was the administrator, so I restarted my computer and was able to purchase the palatte. However, when I tried to use the colors, another pop-up appeared.

"You need their permission to use this."

I stared at my screen for a moment, thinking. 'Who is 'Their'?' I immediately shook my head and restarted my computer. Everything seemed to work. I touched a color and it let me use it. But when I tried to use another color, yet another pop-up appeared.

"I said you need their permission to use this."

I felt slightly disturbed, but not enough for me to quit trying. Sadly, my luck ran out. I would reset my computer. I would try to use another color. More pop-ups would appear, the same message on each one. I eventually got sick of it. I shut down my computer and went to my tablet. When I turned it on, everything seemed to be fine. I opened the app, and I was able to use all the colors. Well, except one. "110." I touched the "110" button about what felt like a million times, so I gave up. My tablet seemed to have froze. So I turned it off.

After about an hour, I decided to turn on the tablet again. When I did, a notification, even though I had them turned off, appeared.

"Stop hurting me..."

At that point, I was more scared. I unlocked the tablet and tried to open an app, but it froze up and more notifications appeared.

"Make it stop."

"Stop hurting me!"

"How would you feel if I hurt you?"

"You had infinite choices. Now you have none."

I got so scared that I threw my tablet out the door, and I even heard it shatter on the sidewalk. I immediately regretted it. My mom was going to kill me when she found out. I shut the door, and out of fear, ran to the couch. I curled up into a ball on it, and was starting to relax, when....The TV turned on.

The TV turned on, and I didn't even have the remote.

I got up and went and sat in front of the TV, and what I saw next shocked me. There was a person on the TV screen now. A static background, what looked like a monochrome filter, and there was a person looking at me with their void-like eyes. Their hair was short, but it went all the way down to their neck, and their eyes were staring straight at me. Blood was all over them, and you could only tell it was blood because it appeared to be red instead of all the black and white and grey shades like everything else. Their hands were pressed against the screen and it looked like they were crying. It was all so realistic, like if you touched the screen, you'd get blood on your fingers.

I honestly felt like screaming in terror. And I did try.

I tried to scream, but nothing came out. It was as if I never has the ability to make noise. I looked back at the screen, and the person had their finger over their lips, and subtitles appeared on the screen.

"...Shh....You'll be alright......"

"...Soon.....You'll be with me."

...Everything suddenly went dark. All I felt was fear. Terror. I didn't know what happened to me, or what was going to happen next....Next thing I knew, I was in some sort of white void. I looked around. Everywhere I looked, all I could see was white. Nothingness...And then I looked in front of me.

...I was more terrified than ever.

I was trapped in a TV-like void. I looked through the screen-like wall in front of me, only to see a kid that looked exactly like ME talking with MY parents.

I managed to see that my parents had went into another room, and my copycat went up to the screen and stared at me.

"How does it feel?" they asked, changing back into their original form......The person with void eyes. They then pressed their hands against the glass and stared at me with a disturbing expression.

"How does it feel to watch someone else live you life? How does it feel to be betrayed and replaced?"

They then backed away from the screen and said one last sentence before turning back into my lookalike, smashing the TV buttons with a hammer, and walking away to continue my life...

"...I get so tired of watching. I want to start doing."

....And the TV shut off. Nothing is left.
